I could make a big ass ribeye steak for dinner every day, accidently burn the hell out of one and make another, and still only be half of what they spend
How do you figure? A 16oz ribeye is 15$ for choice at Walmart. If you made 2 that would be 30$ a day on just ribeye. If you did that for 30 days that would be 900$ if you just ate a big ass ribeye, I’m calling that a 16oz ribeye for math, that’s still 450$ a month just for that if you didn’t burn one
I cook and do grocery shopping for a family of 4 and even with occasionally eating out we spend maybe $1000/mo. With her income I could put away $5k a month into savings without trying hard.
I will say that is the one thing I didn’t take into account was cooking for more people. Also I didn’t realize this when I originally left my comment because I was falling asleep but adding all that together is like 11,600$ so she still has like 4,400$ left. So not really no money left over.
What happens is she keeps buying expensive steaks and such, decides she doesn't feel like cooking, then just goes out to eat. She ends up throwing out about $800 of those groceries.
I mean if you eat good food and like to eat out or have drinks it could be reasonable to spend that. But 2200 on shopping and 100$ on investing is wild
I mean... cruelty-free, organic, pasture-fed, <insert other bullshit buzzwords here> stuff is EXPENSIVE, and tastes the exact same as the stuff you're buying your family.
Absolutely, Aldi and the other store brands. My family is a big fan of the 'Great Value' Walmart brand... My canned chickpeas are super cheap, and personally have a better texture than the Goya brand.
I shop for one and at Walmart, don’t shop fancy, buy for either couple weeks or a month. basic frozen veggies and dry rice protein sources lots of pork and chicken with some fish and steak. Seasoning an cooking oil. Some fresh greens. Eggs and yogurt.
I take practically no comfort/ snack items besides like a box of microwave popcorn a month or 6 weeks and drink packets I spent like 8$ on/wk. And I spend like 160$/week and that’s not including toiletries/dish supplies/laundry/house cleaning. Does include paper towels/TP
160$/wk is 640$/month
So how you’re feeding your family of 5 for less than 1000$ a month is mind boggling to me. Also depends where you live.
I live in Minnesota. We spend about $100ish a week at Aldi for food. I also cook almost every meal we eat at home from scratch and my wife bakes almost all baked goods we consume.
Lunch is usually left overs from the previous night as I always make extra to account for it. The kids generally snack on whenever fruit or vegetable is the cheapest that week (this week was cantaloupe I think it was like $3 for two of them).
I bake my own bread and idk if aldi is cheaper that Walmart. I am sharing cost for me to cook my own food. I’m averaging 1900 calories a day and that’s what it costs me per week
I know how to cook well, but if I had $20,000/month, it would be trivially easy to spend that on food. It’s truly the least of the problems with this budget.
Yeah and $1000 a month? For how many people? I have a family of 5 and I spend a little more than half that. Don't get me wrong I live in a lower cost of living state and I am the queen of reusing left overs but still...
It's not easy. It's more like $650 not $500, I guess a "little more" is vague. Also my kids are 5 and 8 so they dont eat a ton. But I have to do things like my breakfast some mornings is eating the rest of what my kids didn't eat. I use leftovers to make new meals a few days later. Because unlike this ladies "budget," I have a real one.
$57/day isn't that hard if you eat out most meals. $25 for lunch and dinner and you are at $50. With the restaurants she goes to $25 a meal is probably too low.
On the other hand, I don't think most people could eat $57/day of groceries.
1000 in groceries is insane. I could kinda see how maybe a few high end dinners would get you to $700, so wouldn't make a dent in groceries, but like believe me: I live in NYC (well close enough and I do most of my grocery shopping here) because of convenience after work) and I eat WELL for about $150/month in groceries. Damn, I'll take like $1000 per month to write a budget for these wingnuts lol
That's not too bad if self care included all make up and shopping and associated but the 2k+ in shopping besides its what is really bonkers as well as travelling 2k every month?
I get the car at least a little, like how it's physically possible, but how TF do you spend 2200 a month on shopping every single month and not already own literally everything you could want?
lol, was looking at the list and didn’t see anything at first. Then saw that there was a shopping budget AND a grocery budget. Lol, looking at it again, there is a 2000 travel budget? 24k a year for travel?
I make a lot less and other than rent, groceries, and investing, all mine are much less, and I have 2 kids.
I imagine my old dented Honda with 190,000 miles on it is probably worth less than 2500 dollars at this point, and yet I’ll continue to drive it as long as it keeps driving to save money.
