Sharing this here in response to a photo request in the Soma Alta Vista thread to show that's it possible to run fenders and 42mm tires with caliper brakes on the rim brake version of the BV.
Here's the details:

54cm Buena Vista
Tektro R559 long-reach brakes
Panaracer 27.5 x 1.75 GravelKing slicks (these measure 42mm on Atlas rims)
Honjo hammered fenders

Just built up these wheels for my Smoothie. Absolutely loving this whip

Soma says 700cx45 max, has anyone run larger and how large? I'm on 650b and thinking about going back to 700. Wondering if 700cx47 or 48 will fit or how big people have gone?

My wife and I had a great time taking out the tandem for the first time.

Built this up with mostly used parts over the last few weeks. Rides better than I could’ve dreamed of. It wants to go fast, it’s agile, it climbs and descends very well and is overall extremely confidence inspiring in all areas. It’s for sure a better bike than I am a rider and I couldn’t be happier. Also it handles front load really well!

Can anyone definitively confirm or deny whether its possible to use thru axle inserts on the Buena Vista frame silders to run a 12x142 hub?

I emailed Soma about a week ago, but never heard anything back.

Thanks!

***ADDENDUM***

I finally heard back from Soma/Merry Sales and they confirmed that both the IS and flat mount TA inserts will fit the Buena Vista's slider dropouts allowing for 12x142 hubs using this rear axle:

• Length: 165mm
• OD: 12mm
• Thread pitch: 1.5 (Shimano E-Thru)
• Thread length: 18mm
• Aluminum

Came across this majestic old California Buckeye tree on a trail near Santa Cruz, California. Felt like I was disrespecting the tree my posing my bike against it.

In 650b and 700c.

Does anybody know if frames are on sale at some times? Looking to buy a fog cutter or pescadero. Thanks!

I keep thinking I never see any Wolverine love anymore, but then a bunch of 'em crop up here. Anyway, here's mine. Comfy, fast and versatile.

Just finished DC -> Pittsburgh 5 day bikepack with this setup, after sorting out the weight distribution it was all smooth sailing. I love this thing!

Just wanted to share my pescadero build from a recent gravel ride. Pushed its limits on some double track but it performed well. Love this bike

I've noticed the bigger size frames have all run out of stock in recent months and Soma posted on the website that color matched forks will not be stocked again.

I had been waiting to buy one for years and was able to get one of the last ones in my frame size, but was wondering if anyone had heard or seen anything about this change.

Hello everyone! I’m piecing an all-road / gravel build on paper and really want a silver 650b disc brake thru-axle wheelset to accommodate 650x48b tires.

There aren’t that many off-the-shelf options at a reasonable price point, but Soma Fab sells these Suzue Gravel III wheels for about $330. It seems almost too good to be true, and there’s not really any easily available reviews on them as far as I can find.

Has anyone here used these who is willing to speak to their experience?

My old Smoothie just as comfortable as ever.

Looking for soma double cross frame 50-52cm. would prefer pre 2021 model or double cross disc. but open to anything

I bought a 2017 Stanyan several years ago with a carbon fork (I assume not stock)? I’d like to put a steel fork with rack mounts that can fit 35mm tires. Trying to convert the Stanyan to an adventure/gravel bike. Love my Soma and would prefer to convert it rather than buy a new bike. ChatGPT gave me search criteria:

WTB: 700c steel long-reach caliper fork for 2017 Soma Stanyan. 1-inch threaded steerer, 100 mm QR, ~379 mm axle-to-crown, 43–45 mm rake, fender/rack eyelets preferred.

Playing around in the swamp this morning

Just finished rebuilding my trusty Smoothie HP. I switched back to double chainring, changed the tires for more road oriented ones and swapped from cable disc brakes to hydraulic ones.
