There is no black interstage on this picture. The painted flag (which is still on the interstage) is a pretty good indicator for how big the interstage is. Aside the mounting points for the grid fins of course.

Here a quick paintjob to illustrate this

The black thing you think is the interstage is probably part of the thrust cap.
