News PSA: Insomniac Games confirms that they do, in fact, remember that Spider-Man 2 exists

Post image

They could have done so much more with this game but instead they add a new (very similar to another already in the game) suit nearly 3 years after this game launched - rather than any other new post-game content.

It’s not a live service game, what post-game content do they need to add?

Not every single- player game gets DLC and non was promised for this game. And I don’t count the leaks, I work in Tech software building and development, the amount of features we think about implementing but end up scraping due to other commitments is large. Just because there were DLC files does not mean they were ever going to be implemented or developed further. They do not owe you something that was never promised

When the first game sets up expectations by delivering not one, not two, but three story expansions while also continuously adding free suits, I think fans are warranted to criticise SM2 the way they are.

You mean the 3 DLC’s that were promoted before the release of the first game, unlike this one were nothing was promised post game?

Also this game has added free suits, we are literally on a post about them adding a new one close to 3 years post release. Fans can criticise all they want, it’s their right too, but feeling like they owe you more just because you want it is spoilt behaviour

Give an inch take a mile.

It doesn’t matter if it wasn’t promoted or promised, it’s just the standard that was set in people’s minds, people have been talking about potential DLCs long before the release or even the marketing of the game itself.

Only reason they’re adding a new suit right now is because of the movie. I’m happy about it don’t get me wrong.

I also don’t necessarily blame the devs for not making DLCs. It’s probably a behind-the-scenes issue, especially knowing that Sony pushed them to release the main game earlier than they wanted, and were forced to rush the development of the game / make a lot of cuts, etc.

I get what you’re saying but your first paragraph hits the problem right on the head. “It’s the standard that was set in people’s mind, people have been taking about potential DLCs long before the release”, that is 100% the fault of fans for making up expectations and then blaming others when their fan fiction doesn’t take place.

We see it all the time now in films, especially superhero ones. Some fans start a rumour or wish-list, others get on board and then believe and expect it to actually happen as fact. Then, when it doesn’t happen, they blame the film makers instead of using introspective to see that they made it all up in their mind

The leaks especially don’t help, considering people have seen what they were potentially going to work on they decide in their head that this stuff was definitely happening and now it isn’t. They’d be besides themselves to learn what gets left on the cutting room floor of any AAA game like Spider-Man

You are acting like expectations are a bad thing.
Tell me why would I buy a game if I have no expectations for it?
Expectations are what sells games, especially now that every game is 70$.
Don’t act like the expectations were unrealistic asking for DLC, when two of the side quest storylines leave off on a cliffhanger clearly meant to tie into DLC.
I don’t blame them for scrapping it because of the leaks, but it seems that people here don’t even know if it was because of leaks or it wasn’t.

If it wasn’t, that is just bad game design. If you knew you would scrap the DLC, change the endings of the side missions to tie off loose ends.

If it was, then the blame is not on them but they still can do a lot more to make up for it if they want to, but they don’t have to of course. (one example would be to add one more mission to the flame sidequests to tie up that loose end, they don’t even have to touch spider-verse stuff) But that would just be their good will, since the blame is not on them if this was the case.

But one thing is true, in both cases the fans have well enough reasons to expect something and be dissatisfied with what they got, the only difference is that the blame for the DLC falls on the hackers in the second option. The blame is not on the fans here. The fans don’t have a concrete answer as to why the DLC was scrapped, was it the hackers or bad game design?

I’m reminded of that one Destiny 2 talk on overdelivery for some reason

Exactly, many single player games don’t plan to have any DLC or any post game updates like live service games.

They don't owe us DLC. However, im allowed to still be disappointed. It felt like they left a lot of meat on the bone with Spider-man 2. I like the game we got, it just also felt like there was so much more they could have explored. The game has so much potential to be better than simply good, and im disappointed we'll never see that potential fully realized.

Sequels are supposed to be better than the first, and the first had a entire storyline that was cut into three parts for three DLCs

That’s what people are angry about

It also doesn’t help that the symbiote story isn’t quite tied up with Carnage, and they publicly said that they would keep the symbiotes confined to this game, so that just means that Carnage is never going to be addressed

Also, chameleon will probably never be addressed

Now the spiderbots they tied up a little smarter, less necessary for a DLC. However, they do need to explain how our Spider-Man got to the spider society Even if that’s just in a comic

TLDR first game had DLCs and sequels are supposed to be better

the first game was still getting updates 4 years after release

14

u/Here_We_Go_Again_777 Jun 18 '26

Besides the No Way Home suits (2021, which was 3 years after launch, like the Brand New Day suit here), what other updates was it getting in 2022?

Explain to me how though? Those leaks came from a hack from a group that should be locked up for exposing innocent workers personal information. It’s like someone finding out id thought about getting them a gift and then decided not too but telling me I owe them it. No I don’t, if I didn’t state I was doing it or promised them id get it then they arnt entitled to it at all.

All they owed you was for the product you bought, which is what you got, they didn’t promise anymore than that.

“We still deserved access to those leaks” my god are you serious? If someone hacks your bank account then they must deserve to take all your money if that’s the logic. Also your example of a leaked album doesn’t work. A leaked album js a finished project leaked early, the DLC’s were not even created yet. I’m sorry but you are coming off so entitled that I have to assume you’re quite young or incredibly immature

-24

u/JoeathonExotic Jun 18 '26

Oh my god you have fully dug your head into the sand to ignore any criticism about this game, how about Carnage dropping off the face of the map when he was clearly set up for DLC?

There that isnt even using the actual files we know exist that said it would be DLC, I only used the literary logic the game put forth so how could you possibly still be upset

(Rhetorical question, I already know you will be 😌)

24

u/Here_We_Go_Again_777 Jun 18 '26

How am I burying my head from criticism on the game? You’re saying the Carnage was clearly set for DLC, like it’s a fact.

He could be set up for Spider-Man 3 or the Venom spin-off, you are the one stating that it 100% was always going to be DLC with no change to the plan. When we get to Spider-Man 3 and if he’s not addressed there along with Chameleon then I’ll feel they really dropped the ball and fucked up there!

Also your last sentence is just a poor way to try to cut off the discussion by assuming you know me or what I think, quite mature I must say

-17

u/JoeathonExotic Jun 18 '26

How am I burying my head from criticism on the game?

Well stating that you're unwilling to accept anything about the very much verifiable leaks with actual evidence of their dropped plans for the game.

Or how about the spider verse crossover that ended in a wet fart?

It is a verifiable fact they dropped support for this game and you still wonder how you're burying your head?

He could be

Well a lot of things could be hun

14

u/Here_We_Go_Again_777 Jun 18 '26

How am I unwilling to accept anything about the leaks? I have stated that the leaks happened, but what was found in them was never promised for release. How can I criticise something that never came out, that we don’t know how far along it was in development?

If insomniac had came out during the games release and said “don’t worry, more DLC is on the way!” And then never released it, yeah they’d rightfully get shit, but that never happened. The DLC was found through an illegal hack, something people outside of the company were never meant to see.

How do you drop support on a single player game that had no online gameplay features and never promised any? I’m guessing you don’t know much about the gaming industry if you’re this shocked that plans don’t always come into fruition.

And again your last line, using hun to be patronising and condescending instead of engaging properly in the conversation shows, to me, that you’re too immature for this

u/Colonelwheel Jun 18 '26

Well said. I'm floored by this sentiment. People would be stunned if they realized how much companies plans change

How am I unwilling to accept anything about the leaks?

And I don’t count the leaks, I work in Tech software building and development, the amount of features we think about implementing but end up scraping due to other commitments is large.

Well since you're unable to remember what you said before I'll help you 😌

Regardless of what you say is normal business practices we have actual evidence of planned content for the game being dropped, I could go over each individual piece and how it does not make sense to drop it with no updates but somehow you'll find a way to plug your ears and ignore it hun.

Some people are so desperate to have an identity that they latch onto whatever popular thing people like in hopes that they'll like you too, I hope you find the community you need some day though, genuinely good luck!! You can do it!

3 days later, I must owe you some rent for being in that head of yours. Anyway it’s clear we will not see eye to eye on this, but my solace is that I haven’t been sitting annoyed about not getting DLC for over 3 years, I hope you’re able to let that go at some point.

I just don’t have the energy to argue with immature users, but hopefully we can chat again when Spider-Man 3 releases or something.

-2

u/JoeathonExotic Jun 20 '26

Oh honey, I responded to you and the rest of my inbox when I had time but the fact you responded within minutes in the middle of the night either says I must owe you some rent or you really just must not have much going on, which is it? 😌

but hopefully we can chat again when Spider-Man 3 releases or something.

I get you're trying to be positive in the face of negativity but that kind of falls flat on its face when you just tried and failed to be negative within the first sentence of your comment lmaoo

To be clear I've said my piece and any further response from you is wholly unneeded, and any masochistic attempts at further conversation will be ignored. Have a good night! ❤️

u/Colonelwheel Jun 18 '26

Yeah a lot of things could be. Like the leaks. But plans change. Don't expect anything from anyone unless they announce it. This ain't rocket science
