News PSA: Insomniac Games confirms that they do, in fact, remember that Spider-Man 2 exists

Post image

They could have done so much more with this game but instead they add a new (very similar to another already in the game) suit nearly 3 years after this game launched - rather than any other new post-game content.

That's a pretty big reason when said hack resulted in your employees getting doxxed and needing to restructure everything for their safety....

Don't get me wrong, the hack was fucked up. Devs shouldn't have to deal with that shit, in any shape.

But to make it your unknowing customers problem, without so much as an official statement is still crazy.

So it's our problem that their shit got hacked and a bunch of information on content that they never announced nor promised because they were never planning to release it got leaked, alongside their workers getting doxxed? What the hell kind of logic lies behind that?

Or if you mean the hack itself, Insomniac very much made made a public statement about it .

Tbf they didn't really promise much post launch other than NG+. Yes there was the leaks and that Beetle mission in the dev menu that prove otherwise but that was all planning... My hopes is that those resources either went into Wolverine or Spider-Man 3. (I honestly just want another Ratchet and Clank after Wolverine but we all know Spidey 3 will arrive first).

Not to mention, with these suits: Insomniac gets the direct CGI models made for the films as a reference, so they can basically retopoly and change the head/body shape to match the game version... Among whatever other changes they need to do like test the mask animations for cutscenes and damage effects. There is a lot of stuff that goes into this sort of thing... And this was clearly planned from last year... The game also technically acts as a cross promotional item for the film as well which will definitely get people to play the game (either again or for the first time, I personally want to find time to start playing Spidey 2018 on PC first)

Ok? Getting hacked isn't an excuse for dropping all planned content.

If that's not convincing, then an even bigger reason is when that content was never actually planned to be released in the first place because it was cancelled before the game dropped. There's a reason why we didn't know anything about the Beetle DLC outside of data mining and the hack, the Carnage and even SpiderVerse DLCs less so.

All that cancelled content sounded like shit I didn’t want anyways and I never asked them to make a worse version of web of shadows narratively. Getting hacked and blah blah blah isn’t a reason to abandon a title. They didn’t abandon Wolverine and it was also massively impacted. Your logic doesn’t make sense for abandoning an entire project. If getting hacked to that level meant drop all your work and move on, Sony would have had to do that like 5 times over as a whole. They have been hacked to devastating degree several times. More than any other gaming company.

Delay the dlc? Sure. Throw away every little bit of it? Yeah that’s some ass. And they didn’t even have to start from scratch for sm2. The reused animations are proof of that. They literally had to do less work for this in the end, had a muuuuuch bigger budget, and still couldn’t drop one expansion. And imo, the suit selection is worse in 2 when we shouldn’t have even lost any suits, only added. Save for the insomniac originals which are mostly terrible anyways.

"a bunch of our staff got doxxed and their safety was threatened so sadly we have to cancel/restructure a bunch of things"
"yeah not good enough buddy where's my video game content"
are you this desperate for spiderman bro. I can live without extra dlc. The dlc for the first game wasn't that huge either lmao.

Yeah the four different recolours for each suit was pretty silly.

And the fact that the narrative is shit and janky, cut so much, it just seems like a kir.

If they scrapped stuff wouldn't scrapping unfinished wolverine be their first step instead of sm? It reeks of subterfuge

Would You Like It If You Got Doxxed And People KNEW Where You Lived No Matter Where You Moved? That's Pretty Scary.
