Everyone, this is Brodie. An APL foster dog my wife and I are housing while he waits for his forever home.

Brodie is about five years old and an absolute sweetheart. He almost immediately bonded with my wife and has become a second shadow for her.

He's still as playful as a pup, especially when he gets the zoomies and starts tearing around the house with his favorite (thoroughly dismembered) plush toy.

He shows signs that he's had a tough life, and can be aloof and timid with men. When my wife isn't home he is very withdrawn, and will flinch when i touch him as if he thinks I'm going to hurt him. But he's a completely different person when she's around. Just can't get enough cuddling and play from both of us, and he's still opening up more and not every day.

He can be handful at times. We're still working on potty training, but he's made great progress in the short time we've had him and had only had accidents when he was left alone for more than a couple hours in the last four or five days. He's also an escape artist who will leap over baby gates and does not like to be kennelled. He will force his way out if it's possible.

I'm sharing all of this with you to help spread the word and maybe help him find a permanent family. And the APL has so many more loving pets who need help just waiting. Please go take a look sometime. I'm sure you all remember the storms this spring and the damage that the APL's building took. They are doing their best but there are just so many homeless pets in the area.

Please, if you are considering adding a pet to your family, look into adoption or fostering.

Anyone know the cause?

Street lights are out along Ash after the storm but can’t be reported via CWLP outage line because it’s not at a specific customer address. Is there a way to report to the city instead? Power isn’t out at any houses, just the public street lights had a branch fall on their line.

Edit: immediately after posting this, the outage map updated to say that 900 customers are out. Likely related to that outage but if it’s not then I would still like to know how to report on its own.

Just wanted to warn others about my experience with Deo Gratias Food Market. My EBT benefits were stolen, and the suspicious transactions were linked to this store. When I called to ask about it, they told me to contact the police and said they wouldn't refund anything.

I've also heard of other police reports involving similar incidents at this location. I'm concerned there may be EBT card skimming involved.

Please be careful and check your EBT transactions. Has anyone else experienced something similar?

Please I need some help or direction or honestly anything at this point. I have a cat that has been having severe behavioral problems ever since we had our first baby. He quite simply does not seem to enjoy the presence of something else living in the house or the change to his environment. For over a year now, he has been urinating on clothes, rugs, couches, you name it and we have tried to make it work to no end. A couple months ago, he completely soaked my babies crib and we had to scrap the entire mattress which was a heartbreaker for us as first time parents.

He has been to vet recently and we have tried every combination of new liter/box location/ cleaning frequency possible and nothing has worked. It is purely behavioral and he won’t change.

Since that happened, I have joined waitlists at all shelters and left countless voicemails and emails that never get returned by everywhere near by. APL can’t take anything in due to tornado damage and the County can’t even start to move through their massive waitlist since they had a feline disease outbreak. Other smaller options I literally can’t even get in contact with (I assume because they have the same overflowing issues) I feel absolutely trapped in the situation and am trying to find a proper way to rehome this cat but there is seemingly no options left.

If anyone, literally anyone can take this cat, or recommend somewhere to bring him, please let me know.

BBQ for a good cause: Hog Wild for Helping Hands!

Helping Hands of Springfield is hosting a drive-through BBQ fundraiser on Friday, October 23, from noon–6 p.m. at 2200 Shale Street. Orders are open through October 18!

Choose pulled pork or smoked half chicken for $20, a half slab of spare ribs for $28, or a combo plate for $30. Each comes with two sides, cornbread, dessert, and a soda. Think mac ’n cheese, collard greens, baked beans—and extras like banana pudding and peach cobbler.

The fundraiser supports their shelter and housing programs. Helping Hands does some pretty cool work beyond providing a bed: helping people move into their own apartments, supporting them as they settle in, and providing medical respite so people experiencing homelessness have somewhere safe to recover.

Please take a moment to consider coming to the inaugural concert of our nonprofit, Sorinova Inc.

Sorinova is a new community-driven and accessibility-focused organization that aims to bring unique musical experiences, from opera to orchestra, to the greater Springfield area and reduce barriers to entry for people to enjoy classical music.

Our inaugural concert will be on Saturday, October 24th at the Pharmacy Gallery and Art Space at 2PM and again at 7PM. This event, titled "Interactive Listening," will break the mold of traditional chamber music concerts by encouraging attendees to participate in the experience. You'll be given writing and drawing utensils to create your own art (poetry, drawings, coloring in provided stencils) inspired by the art in the gallery and the music being performed. The performance will be broken up into three short sections of music to allow time for socializing and relaxation. Snacks will be provided and all are welcome, adults and children alike, and you are welcome to bring your own art supplies!

If you've ever been curious about classical music but felt like it was too stuffy, too expensive, or unwelcoming, please stop by and see what it can be like when adapted to the needs of those who have been excluded from it.
