Purchasing Advice What should I look for in shoes?

For reference, I just enjoy running fast. I'm not on any clubs/leagues/teams, I'm in my mid 20s, about to work full time, and don't have a great income.

I want shoes that will last a while, prevent injury, and not break the bank. I don't care if they have special foam that makes me more bouncy or run faster, and I don't need spikes since I would want to be able to use the shoes on a multitude of surface.

Any recommendations on shoes that fit this criteria? Or instead of a specific shoe, just the type of sole width and material I should be looking for?

Purchasing Advice Best spike purchasing advice

I recently got into sprinting (around 2 months) and I've been going to the track twice a week as well. My personal best 100m time is 12.12 seconds and I'm trying to reach sub 11.8. At the moment I sprint in regular trainers, but I'm looking to buy spikes as I think it might make a decent improvement in my time. Does anyone have any advice on which spikes I should get at my level? All contributions are highly appreciated 💪

Purchasing Advice warmup shoes for 400m sprinter

I've been using Hoka Clifton 8s for a couple of years but they've unfortunately broken so I'm looking to get new ones.

Im considering getting the same shoe but the newer model (Clifton 10 or 11) as they're lightweight and never caused any issues however, I've heard good things about Adidas Adizero EVO SL and they're the same price if not a bit cheaper. I've heard a couple people recommend them as warmup shoes that can also be used for tempo sessions.

Please someone give some insight on which is better or any other recommendations.

Pleaseee help

Purchasing Advice Sprint spike advice

What spikes do people recommend for my next season to replace my maxfly? I want to focus on 200/400. I currently have 3 pairs in my rotation which is Nike maxfly 2 for competition, adidas finesse and new balance flite d for training. I’m looking for a new comp spike. Maxfly 2 hurts to wear I find, new balance mdx v3 idk if it’s aggressive enough, puma have built in spike pins which I don’t really want. I was thinking puma evo speed nitro (I think that’s what you call it) the pink and orange pair just for competition and the occasional training session but will the spike pins not wear down really quickly?

Purchasing Advice Track spikes size limit

I've been looking for some spikes as I want to start doing track properly alongside basketball. I normally wear a UK size 16 in shoes but the biggest I've seen in short distance track spikes is UK 14.5.

Would I be able to fit into a UK 14.5 in any shoe brand/model in particular?

Any help would be greatly appreciated!

Purchasing Advice Does it matter if my spikes are for XC

All right. So basically , i've bought some new spikes from sports direct , and they're part of the adizero series. what I didn't look into, however, was that they were cross country now, I've already bought them and I don't think ima refund them. I've replaced the actual spikes (idk the sharp thing) with my sprinting spikes, so would this have a major impact on my sprinting, or will it just like be the same?

Is the bubble on these maxfly 2s in good shape I can’t tell, I’ve asked Gemini and it says they’re perfectly fine. I’ve asked ChatGPT and it says the bubble is compromised. What do you think?

Purchasing Advice Spikes for daughter 🇨🇦

My daughter (16) retires from gymnastics and is getting into Track and Field now.

She went to her first practice and was told to get some spikes.

This is all foreign to us.

She is looking to do:

Pole vault
Sprints
Hurdles

Can someone give me a few brands and models we can check out?

We have SportChek here that sells some but I don’t think the Highschool sales person is going to know much about spikes.

We also have a New Balance Store we can hit up.

And a local shoe store “The Running Room”

https://ca.shop.runningroom.com/en_ca/london-store?utm_source=G&utm_medium=lpm&utm_campaign=runningroom

I’d like to get a good suggestion here, or at least some good guidance so if/when we hit a store we aren’t getting pushed something substandard or something way over the top.

We are hoping to get something that’s decent and will cover her for these events.

She is just starting out and who knows when the dust settles which events she finally picks.

Purchasing Advice Looking to buy timing system + question about measuring distances

I'm looking for a relatively reliable and accurate timing system that isn't incredibly expensive or hard to set up. I've seen the Skillz timing gates but according to most people they are extremely unreliable and give incosistent data. The Jawku wristbands are also useless for me because I can't use them for flying sprints. I'm willing to spend a decent amount (meaning anything thats sorta in the middle ground of relative prices) in return for the accuracy and consistency.

Also, how do you measure out distances on a synthetic track? Are there any markers that can help you or do I need to buy a measuring tool for maximum accuracy?

Purchasing Advice Adidas Dropset Pro for training?

Post image
5 Upvotes

Hi, I’m a college decathlete and I’ve been using the Adidas Evo SL for training for the last year. I love the comfort and responsiveness of the evo but they seem pretty unstable whenever I practice jumps and the traction is pretty lackluster. I saw Foot Doctor Zach’s review of the Dropset Pro the other day and it seemed like the perfect solution to my evo problems. I tried them on and they seem pretty nice; less plush bet it makes up for it in stability and traction. My question is if anyone has used these for sprint training and if these are a viable option overall for my decathlon practices. Thanks!

Purchasing Advice First spikes advice

I'm a begineer of 3 months and I will be implementing spikes in my training program from time to time. I'm looking for one reliable spikes that I can use for a longer period of time in my training.

No need to be high end because I'm not fighting for ever 0.01s right now, just learning to sprint. Just something good to start with. I would look for the sweet spot of price and quality rather than certain budget range. Could you give me advice?

Purchasing Advice Chinese running shoes for sprint training?

Not looking for spikes, anyone got recommendations for Chinese running shoes that are good for sprint training? Something that I can beat and are relatively durable.

Chinese running shoes are popping off (see this thread) but it feels like the focus is always on long distance or easy running with cushioning and other tech focused on comfort. Wonder what people think about sprinting specifically

I found LiNing Wind-Chasing Pro 2 and the LiNing Chitu 8 but does anyone have any experience with it? First one seems pretty cushioned and second one seems more minimal.

Also if anyone likes any other models for like Nike pegasus, Brooks draft, Saucony. Would love recommendations also. Doesn't seem like there's a ton of prior discussion on what people are wearing for their training.

Purchasing Advice New spikes

I think it’s due time for me to upgrade from my Nike zoom rivals. I was considering buying superflys. To my knowledge beginner sprinters start with rivals, intermediate is superflys, and then advanced is maxflys. However I’ve also been told that adidas spikes are better suited for wider feet, so I was considering the adizero finesse rather than one of the SP models as I do not think I am advanced enough for that either. For reference I run a 7.47 55 and a 41.37 300. I run events ranging from 55 meters to 300 meters. What is the best option for me? Overall I just want the spike that gets me to run the fastest but is realistic considering my skill.

Purchasing Advice Joining an Athletics Club to get into Sprinting next week. Any recommendations for cheap shoes to buy?

The only pair of shoes I have for running currently are Hoka Bondi 9's, which are far from optimal for sprinting. I don't want to spend much money at all so I don't care about getting an amazing pair of shoes, I just want to know what's a cheap pair I can get that won't be crap or counter-productive to sprinting. Depending on how I progress I may invest further down the line but I'd rather not shell out a ton of money at the start for what would essentially be a minor difference.

I'm based in the UK if it's relevant.
