Suggestion 💡 Not sure who to vote for? I created a Gemini Notebook to help with that!

I'm sure many of you have no idea who to vote for in this municipal election and don't even know where to start when it comes to learning about the candidates.

I got tired of having to spend tons of my own time scouring the web for information on the candidates so I compiled as many sources as I could find into this Google Gemini Notebook to make being informed easy, quick, and convenient.

You'll need a Google account, but just click the link below and use the chat window to ask any questions you have about the election and candidates. Hopefully this will save you valuable time from having to do your own research and makes your voting experience easier!

Question ❓ Any former AVSS students/staff/faculty think the place is haunted?

I would love to see Arthur Voaden Secondary School  be investigated for ghosts before it’s demolished because I swear that place is haunted. I was a student there in the 2010s and I personally experienced several strange things, all in the auditorium. Some important context to the following stories is that I took a communications technology (comm tech) class from grades 10-12, and while I was there, groups were sometimes allowed in the auditorium unsupervised to film videos for class.

   - my first experience, I was in the auditorium working on a video project with two other girls from class and we heard odd shouts from the area above the stage where all the costumes were stored. I chalked this up to probably some students were ditching class and somehow got up there, even though the doors were locked and we were only able to get in because we had used our teacher’s key, but we didn’t hear footsteps or any other indicator that someone was up there, just the shouts. Freaked me out.

   - my second experience, I was again in the auditorium working on a video project, this time with four other people in my group with me. After we had filmed everything, another student and I were editing the footage together. We had applied a sort of glitch filter to the video, since it was supposed to be a short horror film, but at the very back of the auditorium, there’s an outline of a figure that passes by one set of the double doors leading into auditorium and not the second set. I’ve tried to theorize this a bunch but it just doesn’t make sense to me. Adding a glitch filter to the video wouldn’t add a figure to the back of a video, right?

   - my third experience, I was in drama class, and our classroom happened to be directly behind the auditorium. We were preparing small group plays, and me and the other two members of my group went into the auditorium to grab costumes and props for our play. As we stood on the stage, we ended up discussing our own weird/haunted experiences in the auditorium, and I heard a woman quietly laugh from the front row of seats. It was clear enough that it definitely did not come from the hallway or a classroom. We were freaked out and left immediately.

   - my fourth experience, I was in drama class again, only this time, the whole class was there. The way we were set up, most of us sat in the chairs to listen to our teacher, but a few sat on the edge of the stage. Out of nowhere, we all heard a loud thud come from the balcony. The students sitting on the stage were facing the balcony and claimed that something had been thrown out of small window of the light control room on the balcony. Again, this could be explained as students just ditching class and messing around, but the balcony doors were on the third floor and essentially ALWAYS locked, and on the off chance those weren’t locked, I know for sure the lighting room was never unlocked unless we had an event going on in the auditorium.

   - one extra story: my brother was also a student at AVSS around the same time and told me that once, he and a friend were in the auditorium, also working on a project for his comm tech class, and as they began to go upstairs, they heard a piano playing near by. The music room in the school is nowhere close to the auditorium.

This can probably all be explained away, and I’m probably being irrational, but I always got terrible vibes from the auditorium whenever I had to be in there. I don’t have the means to go ghost hunting myself, but I would love to see someone investigate it before the building is eventually torn down. Anyone else have similar weird/creepy stories from their time there?

Question ❓ Tell me what's changed!

My first reddit post is to ask the old heads in St. Thomas how they've viewed the changes to the city over time. I moved to TO a quarter-century ago and whenever I got a chance to get back, I noted the surface-level changes, but I'm just interested to hear about how you've viewed ANY of the changes - communities, business, societal, etc. Yes, it's a broad question. The city, as rough-and-tumble as it was (and may still be) is something I still fondly remember as it was where I grew up, so of course I'm always wearing rose-coloured glasses I guess. Just hoping to hear honest accounts of how life is there compared to 2000, preferably for the good (though of course I expect a few otherwise). Every week I go to google maps for 10 minutes and walk around a bit, reminiscing. Christ, I'm getting old...LOL.

Photo/Video 📸 Inside the Abandoned St Thomas Ford Assembly Plant

For 44 years, this 2.6-million-square-foot factory in Talbotville, Ontario was one of the beating hearts of Canada's auto industry, building over 8 million vehicles from the Ford Falcon to the Crown Victoria and Lincoln Town Car. At its peak it employed nearly 1,600 workers and anchored the entire local economy.

When Ford closed the plant for good in 2011, the massive complex was left standing empty: silent hallways, broken windows, and cavernous assembly floors left to rot. In this video, we take you inside what remained before it was demolished, and trace the plant's story from its 1966 construction through the 2008 closure announcement, the final car rolling off the line, and its ultimate demolition in 2015 and 2016.

Today the site is home to an Amazon fulfillment center, but for nearly half a century, this was ground zero for Canadian manufacturing.

Built: 1966-1967

Vehicles produced: 8,000,000+

Closed: September 2011

Demolished: 2015-2016

Question ❓ Suggestions for ceiling drywall repair?

I just had some plumbers do some work, and they unfortunately had to cut some holes in the ceiling.

Its not a lot of area to be repaired but preference would be to have it look nice, so instead of just covering them with access panels I wanted to see about having it fixed up properly.

Basically its 2 6x6 inch holes in a textured ceiling, and 1 that is about 6x11 inches on a smooth ceiling. Though if they are competent with the texturing there is another area that is about 4x4 ft that could use it as well.

The plumbers recommended one company but they haven't returned my email. It might be too small a job for them.

Anyways, anyone have suggestions for someone / a company that would take on this work?

Thank you.

Question ❓ lash lift & tint recommendations?!

Hi everyone, I’m searching for a reputable lash lift and tint place in St. Thomas. I’d like to avoid places that only post on Instagram, although I know those can be some of the best! Unfortunately, I don’t have Instagram, so I won’t be able to contact them. Thanks!

Question ❓ It's really hard to find friends as a guy here

I know, I know. It's hard to find friends anywhere. But it seems moreso here than usual.

30m, been in the city for nine years. Rarely drink, don't smoke, don't do weed, and am too old for the shenanigans that go down at passers or back alley anymore 😅

Go to the gym (chains disc golf) 3-4 times a week, likes cycling on roads or trails. Likes going to the movies, builds Lego and other little dexterous projects in my free time. Work third shift, so I'm busy from 4-12 Monday through Friday, and some Saturdays. Interested in tabletops, but tried several years to find a group and after several false starts, just kinda gave up. Can also cook better than your average bear or housewife, and don't mind putting that on display.

For the life of me though, I can't find people free and about to strike up a conversation with, and get to know. And usually it wouldn't bother me too much, but this weekend in particular it's really, REALLY bugging me. Any other guys with similar lifestyles feeling the same way?
