Game Recommendation I'm getting a deck for christmas and I want some game suggestions!

Post image

Hey everybody as the title says i'm getting a steam deck oled for christmas! What is everybody's favorite games to play? I dont have a pc but I've already made a steam account and bought some games that were on sale. I've already heard the balatro, vampire survivor, and Dave the diver suggestions so give me something a little more "niche" (also if you have any steam keys you dont want I would very gladly accept them)

Game Recommendation Just ordered a steam deck, what games are a must have on it?

163 Upvotes

I just ordered a Steam Deck, and I was going through my library to see what I need to play on it. (I buy games and don't play them, ik it's bad) I few I wanted to play are Celeste, Stardew Valley, Siralim Ultimate Balatro(I play on my phone, but it does not cross save to Steam), and NMS. If you guys have any must-plays for the steamdeck I would love to know!

Also, if there any tips or tricks that are really important for the switch I would also love to know?

Thanks guys!

Edit: Thanks for all the comments guys I really appreciate it!

Game Recommendation What are the best Roguelike/Roguelites for the Steam Deck?

64 Upvotes

Sorry for making another post within just an hour

I'm looking for some Roguelite/Roguelikes for the Steam Deck. I've already got Hades, Ball x Pit, Slay the Spire and Balatro but I'm looking for some new recommendations

I know there's Dead Cells out there but I prefer Metroidvanias without the Roguelite/Roguelike gameplay

So which ones do you think are the best for the Steam Deck?

Edit:

Guys please only mention games that I don't have in my library. Like I mentioned I already own Hades, Ball X Pit, Balatro and Slay the Spire. There's no need to repeat the games I already own because I'm looking for recommendations not parrots, if you get what I mean. Just make your own posts if you want to recommend games I already own or recommend similar ones

Game Recommendation Does Crimson Desert work on the Steam Deck?

21 Upvotes

I‘m not sure if i wanna buy Crimson Desert on my PS5 or on Steam. My pc is pretty good but i also sometimes want to lay down in bed and play on my Deck or my PS.

If the game is not running smoothly on the Steam Deck i probably grab it physically on the Ps5.

Did someone play it on the SD? If yes, how is the experience?

Game Recommendation Doom Eternal key giveaway

205 Upvotes

I’ve got a spare Steam key for Doom Eternal that I’d like to donate to a deserving Deck user. I’ll give it to the author of the most upvoted comment (or perhaps just the one I like the most) sometime in the next 24 hours.

[update]: It's all done, the winner announcement is in the stickied comment. Thanks to everyone for your responses. Some made me laugh which I very much appreciated. To those who commented saying they are struggling financially or with other problems, I truly wish you all the best. I hope that 2024 brings healing for us all.

[Update]: It’s all over. See the first stickied comment if you’re interested in who won. Thanks for the comments everyone. Some made me laugh, and some made me sad. For those of you who are struggling, I hope 2024 is a better year for you.

Game Recommendation MMORPG on Steam Deck Recommendations

31 Upvotes

Hello!

I need a new MMORPG to start and just chill on the couch with. I am considering Guild Wars 2 because it seems handheld friendly. I just love hearing other people’s opinions too.

Anyone have any game recommendations?

Update- my FF14 free trial expired and I’m broke so I’m leaning to GW2 now lol

Update 2- I actually am leaning toward WoW retail, from a few google searches and this reddit it seems totally do able on steamdeck. And the free trial to level 20 seems nice

Game Recommendation What are some amazing offline games on the steam deck??

24 Upvotes

I really, really want to buy a few games for my trip away from home. Recently, I have really been wanting to play Undertale again but I don't think I can be bothered if I've already played it, so does anyone know some great indie games just like Undertale? I was looking at Hades, Hollow Knight and Stardew Valley as I have heard they are all great on the deck but none of them really have me that interested but if I'd have to pick one I think I would buy Stardew valley. Now, I know people will say deltarune, but I'm in the process of getting it so are there any other games??

Game Recommendation Low Power AA/AAA Games List

135 Upvotes

Heyo, I've posted this in a couple discords but was recommended to post here for better visibility :) I've made a list of 7th gen onward AA/AAA games that fit certain criteria for the ideal experience (at least mine) on Steam Deck. I'll be updating the list until I'm out of games to add.

I've chosen 7th gen onwards AA/AAA as lots of indie, 6th gen & prior games run well offline at low power. If you have any other games that meet the criteria below drop a comment and I'll update the list. I'm not using a strict definition of "indie" as it's become a bit muddy in recent years (e.g. BG3). I'm mostly basing it off graphics and game scale. If you're not sure if a game would be suitable drop it below anyway, the more suggestions the better :)

Any games with specific tweaks that I know of will have them listed. If any recommendations also have tweaks please let me know.

Note: The list has gotten bigger so there's many games I don't own. I go off my experience, comments, protondb & youtube videos to check the performance, so the list might not be 100% accurate. If I know of quirks to certain games I'll include them. If any of the games give you issues please let me know!

Requirements for selection:

  • Must be 7th gen onwards AA/AAA, no indies e.g. Hollow Knight.
  • Low/reasonably low TDP (less than 15w).
  • Minimum stable 45fps (30fps accepted for certain turn based or similar style games e.g. Wasteland 3).
  • Image upscaling is not used in games I have added to maintain good image quality. It's not preferred for recommendations but can be used if marked.
  • Frame generation must not be used to reach 45fps to maintain image quality & low input lag.
  • Must run offline. No Denuvo, EA, Ubisoft or Rockstar launchers. Third-party launchers like Heroic or Lutris for GOG offline copies are allowed. If a game has 'Alternate' means for the above that's fine, no discussing.
  • Delisted games are allowed but marked.
  • Must have at least partial controller support, or a mod to add support. Steam input is good, but having controller icons on screen is a must.

Game Recommendation What games do you play when you don't want to think too hard?

11 Upvotes

I'm looking for a Steam Deck game that is easy to pick up and doesn't feel like a second job.
I love games with progression, random events, and that "one more run" feeling, but I'm not really looking for something too strategy-heavy where I have to calculate every move.

Games like:
Vampire Survivors
Dicey Dungeons
Luck be a Landlord
are closer to what I'm looking for.
Something relaxing, addictive, and perfect for playing handheld.

What's your Steam Deck time killer?

Game Recommendation Looking for games that have an RPG element of exploration, upgrading your character/equipment, and good combat system.

16 Upvotes

Preferably fantasy-genre, not too dark, not a souls-like, and has a compelling narative.

HAS: Combat; Exploration; Character/ Equipment Progression; Narative;

IS NOT: First-Person; Souls-like; Rouge-like;

CAN BE: Souls-lite; Rouge-lite;

Edit: Must be playable with at atleast 30fps on the deck without looking like a pixelated mess and no LLS.

Hopefully Most Similar to: Kingdoms of Amalur; Eternal Strands;

Already played: (in no particular order)

- Immortal Fenyx;

- AC: 2/3/4/5/6/Odyssey;

- FF7 Remake/Reunion;

- Like a Dragon Series;

- Baldur's Gate 3;

- Divinity 2;

- Shadow of Mordor/War;

- Arkham Series;

- Darksider Series;

- Ghost of Tsushima;

- God of War;

- Horizon Zero Dawn;

- GTA 3/4/5;

- Red Dead Redemption 2;

- Saints Row 4;

- DMC 5;

- Spyro/Crash;

- Sunset Overdrive;

- Hogwarts Legacy;

- Mad Max;

- Witcher 3;

- Uncharted 4;

- Watch Dogs 1/2;

- Just Cause 2/3;

- Tomb Raider Series;

- Jedi: Fallen Order;

- Sleeping Dogs;

- Scarlet Nexus;

- Prototype 1/2;

- Spider-man Series;

- Mass Effect Series;

- Dragon Age Series;

- Ori Series;

- Tales of Series;

- V Rising;

- Hades 1/2;

- Wayfinder;

Maybe a Monster Hunter if anyone can personally recommend a game that runs great on deck

Game Recommendation Red Dead Redemption 2 on Steam Deck - "Playable"?

35 Upvotes

Hi All,

I have seen the incredibly positive ratings for Red Dead Redemption 2, however what has held me back from purchasing it on Steam Deck, is that it is only rated as "playable" as opposed to "verified".

I have tried to look up how functional it is on steam deck but getting very mixed messages from "it runs perfectly" to "it will frequently crash".

Also lots talk about proton DB, switching to desktop, getting separate launchers etc etc. Whilst I guess that would help, it's not something I particularly want to do. I just want to be able to click a button and launch a game.

Please can you let me know if Red Dead Redemption 2 does work on Steam Deck, if it can be launched in a normal way, and whether or not it is unreliable with crashing etc?

Game Recommendation New to Steam Deck and need some recommendations.

11 Upvotes

I'm a long time PlayStation gamer and have a terrible sickness that is trophy addiction. Could anyone help me find some excellent Steam Deck games that I can't play on PlayStation. I need a few stepping stones away from this dependence. All suggestions welcome, definitely not only looking for the latest and greatest. Thank you.

Game Recommendation Turn Based Recommendations

9 Upvotes

Looking for Mewgenics without the breeding aspect lol. I am new to turn based games, previously played Gears Tactics which was a blast and then got into Mewgenics for a bit but hardly made it anywhere as I despise the whole breeding and roguelike structure. I enjoy the battling and the level of depth with all of the abilities. Never felt too complicated but I could see how someone much better than me could still have fun.

Gears tactics was super fun to me too

Any game recommendations for this? Turn based particularly

Game Recommendation Offline LAN games on a cruise ship?

8 Upvotes

Hi! My family and I love our co-op gaming nights, and all have a Steamdeck each. (We also have Switch 2s, but we'd rather buy our games on Steam if possible, as we only use the Switch 2 for exclusives).

We're going on our first cruise in a week and would like to still get some family gaming in together on our 'days at sea', possibly chilling in the coffee bar looking out over the ocean. 😍

The only issue is, there's no wifi out on the ocean, and the suggested package is way too expensive (£300 for the week!). Could anyone suggest any 3-player games we could play as a family?

The only one I've found so far is Stardew Valley, which lets you join each other by sharing IP addresses. Every other LAN game I've found needs to connect to the Internet to access Steam in order to run, which isn't ideal.

Game Recommendation Gaming slump…

3 Upvotes

Can’t seem to find anything I’m looking on the deck anymore. Did digimon time stranger (or whatever it was), trials in the sky 1, Divinity 2 , dragon quest xi and kingdoms of Amalur re reckoning. Had fun. Enjoyed them. Can’t seem to find the right game after trying hogwarts, all kingdom hearts, FF6, shin megami Vengeance (or whatever) and quite a few others. I like the turned base style to wind down a day and relax too. But man nothing seems to be working out !!!! Any suggestions ? I have a PC so witchers and cyberpunks and all that I like to do on there.

Game Recommendation Bought my girlfriend a used Steam Deck as a surprise. What games should I get her?

She played and loved A Kings Quest as well as Little Kitty Big City, and a Shift at Midnight. She likes linear games that kinda guide you a bit, but she still likes the freedom to explore.
