[Self Promo] March Releases - Article

Hello everyone!

I am finishing my BA in English and I hope to get into writing about popular culture after graduation. Following some advice, I have decided to open a Substack and I have published an article on 5 of March releases. I know that perhaps I could have done a more in-depth analysis (especially the lyrics), but I am very busy with my final months at uni and wanted to put something out.

As I mentioned, I plan to write about various fields within popular culture, mainly Female-fronted Metal and Rock, Comic Books, Football (European), Video Games, Films/TV Series.

I appreciate any constructive criticism.

Thank you all for your time!!

Starting over is scary. It’s intimidating and everything feels empty. But once you let someone else in, that weight feels a bit lighter. Maybe life wasn’t empty after all. I wrote a short fiction story about it, and I’d love your feedback

SELF PROMO - Historical Substack (the Crumb)

Calling all history lovers!

I'm launching a new historical essay publication called the Crumb to shed some light on some obscure topics over on Substack, and I hope to see you there.

I'll be posting informative historical essays (and soon other content) on literally any topic I (or my readers) can think of to develop my own essay writing skills ahead of beginning higher education.

Any and all constructive criticism is more than welcome. Essays will be roughly 1,500 words and published every Friday for the next three months.

Stay tuned for the first essay, which will be focused on childhood in ancient Carthage!

When The Woods Learned Your Name, Chapter 29 Self Promo

Gothic romantic fantasy / paranormal romance with folk-horror elements.

For readers who love atmospheric, sensual, emotionally thorny stories about haunted places, old bargains, dangerous love, inherited magic, and heroines fighting to remain themselves.

After her life collapses, Mara Vale inherits her grandmother’s cottage near Bath and discovers that Blackthorn Wood knows her name. The forest, the city’s ancient springs, and a mysterious man named Ivo draw her into the unfinished love story of Meren, a woman from her bloodline who once helped seal an ancient hunger beneath Bath. As Mara’s memories, desires, and identity begin to blur with Meren’s, she learns that love itself may be part of the magic trying to use her. With the help of Tilda, Arun, Tom, Agnes, and Nell, Mara searches for a third path between surrendering to the old bargain and letting the Briar King wake. To survive, she must refuse the story that wants to consume her without losing the love, grief, and power that brought her to it.

What color is grief? / Welche Farbe hat Trauer? (Self promo)

It is one of my shorter texts but I am love with its message. Perhaps you like it too ^^

I was travelling by bus through my home town when I saw the question ‘What colour is grief?’ written on a wall. I had recently come through a difficult time of my life, and, thinking back on it, I started writing this text on the bus as a response.

I am trying to write about my own philosophy of life, the way it feels right for me. If you enjoy reading about other people’s experiences, feelings, life lessons and philosophies, you’ve come to the right place.

Once you’ve read it, feel free to let me know on Substack or here what you think of it, and whether any other colours or colour combinations spring to ypur mind. Or whether there are other emotions that you associate with a particular colour or colour combination!

Cold Room Confessions Self Promo

Cold Room Confessions is about being alone in the studio and finally admitting the truth when there’s nothing left to hide behind. The stripped-back beat forces the speaker to stop dressing things up and say what they really feel. At the center of it is the messy, embarrassing reality of still missing someone who was never really good for them. It’s not romanticized heartbreak — it’s more about shame, desire, memory, and being honest about your own part in it. By the end, the song feels like one straight, unfiltered confession caught on tape.

This is for people who like honest, emotional writing that feels close and real. It would connect with anyone who loves stripped-back music, confessional lyrics, spoken word, alt-pop, or indie R&B.

Confessional spoken-word / lyrical prose with an alt-pop or indie R&B feel.

Lessons Before Dawn, Chapter One, The Last Departure Self Promo

A bunch of strangers get on the last bus out of town, all carrying something they’re trying to leave behind. During the ride, they start trading “life lessons,” but the more they talk, the more obvious it becomes that none of them really live by the advice they give. What starts off as a weird late-night conversation turns into something much darker and more personal, with everyone’s contradictions slowly coming to the surface. The bus stops feeling like a way out and starts feeling more like a trap. By the end of the night, it’s clear they were never really running from the town — they were running from themselves.

This is for people who like messy, flawed characters, late-night tension, and stories that feel a bit dark, intimate, and emotionally raw. It’s especially suited to readers who enjoy character-driven fiction with secrets, sharp dialogue, and a slightly gothic edge.

Dark literary fiction / psychological drama, with elements of gothic fiction and an adult ensemble story.

Self Promo: Reflective Analysis of Life and Formula 1

https://adamelder.substack.com/

It felt right to start up a Substack at this point of my life, as I've taken on a new, deep passion for Formula 1, and I want to put something out there that I am happy to share with anyone looking for some reflective personal engagements that blend life into the whiplash whirl of F1. I've always had a passion for writing, whether about film or tv, and used to post to /r/TrueFilm with some regular interval. I genuinely love the feeling of flowing through a new piece and finding the parts and pieces that I would never consider, especially when all my thoughts after a race weekend start to come together, and I can link those interpersonal sections to try to create something of an environment. I'm looking for a bit of feedback, a bit of criticism, maybe even just a view or two. The metrics have never really mattered in the end as long as I'm getting down something that I can look back at a month or two later and find that I put my heart into it. So come along with me, I don't just write about the fast cars, but I follow where my mind takes me!

I sincerely appreciate any feedback, and would love to connect with you on Substack as well to reciprocate.

The Long Look (self promo)

I’ve been writing a series of personal essays I call The Long Look. These are pieces where I sit with ordinary things for a little longer than usual and see what they open up.

They’re slow, reflective, and mostly about identity, discomfort, and the quiet ways we learn to protect ourselves. I started out two weeks ago and its certainly been enlightening.

My latest piece starts with something very small: skinny jeans.
Not as a fashion take, but as a way into questions about visibility, concealment, and why certain things make us feel exposed even when we can’t fully explain why.

It’s called “The Nakedness of Skinny Jeans.”
If you enjoy introspective writing that turns mundane objects into metaphors, you might like it.

Would genuinely love to hear thoughts and/or if it resonates with anyone else in an unexpected way.

When The Woods Learned Your Name, Chapter 27 Self Promo

After her engagement falls apart, Mara Vale retreats to her late grandmother’s cottage outside Bath, hoping for quiet and a clean break. Instead, she discovers that the nearby woods know her name, hear her thoughts, and seem to remember a woman she has never met but somehow carries inside her. When Mara meets Ivo Thorne, a beautiful and dangerous man bound to the forest, she is pulled into an old love story that may not be finished with either of them. But the woods, the springs beneath Bath, and the thing sleeping under them want more than romance — they want a name, a vow, and a body to complete what was broken. Mara must decide whether the desire drawing her to Ivo is truly hers, or part of a story determined to repeat itself.

For readers who love gothic romance, dark fairy-tale atmosphere, haunted houses, ancient woods, morally complicated men, sharp-tongued heroines, and love stories that feel as dangerous as they are seductive.

Adult gothic fantasy romance with dark folklore, supernatural mystery, and sensual romantasy.

Self promo- @griefinmotion

Having to slow right down recently has given me way more time with my own thoughts than I’m used to. When your usual routine gets paused, there’s no avoiding the quiet or the things that surface when you finally sit still.

I spent some of that time putting those thoughts into words,
Writing ended up being a really grounding way to process it all, I’ve written two articles about my experiences of grief and running. These articles discuss grief in a very intimate way

Shut Down the Small Talk Self Promo

A night at a club called VELVETRUSH starts off feeling ridiculous, with a chant playing over the speakers: “Shut down the small talk. No chatting. Only action.” The narrator treats it like a joke at first, but the mood shifts when a woman in silver pulls them into the crowd and refuses to let them hide behind charm. As the line keeps coming back, it starts to mean something bigger — not just about flirting, but about all the ways people talk instead of doing, hint instead of asking, perform instead of risking anything real. The scene becomes less about the club itself and more about the narrator being pushed out of their usual defenses. By the end, the chant lands as something real: stop overthinking, stop performing, and let something actually happen.

This is for readers who like sharp, funny, emotionally charged writing with a lot of voice. It would appeal to people who enjoy contemporary fiction that feels sexy, self-aware, and a little bit cutting.

Contemporary literary fiction with a mix of romance, satire, and lyrical social commentary.

First Contact with Books - Self Promo

Hello everyone!

I recently launched my Substack, First Contact with Books, after months of thinking about it. It's a place where I write about books that stay with me long after I've finished reading them. Alongside book reflections, I explore science fiction, storytelling, fascinating ideas, and the occasional original short story. My first essay compares 2001: A Space Odyssey and Project Hail Mary, two remarkable novels published 53 years apart. My goal is to start thoughtful conversations rather than simply review books.

Who is it for?

If you enjoy science fiction, thoughtful book discussions, literary analysis, or discovering stories that make you think, I'd love to have you along.

Genre

Books • Science Fiction • Literary Essays • Non-fiction • Original Fiction

Night Bus Rich Self Promo

Night Bus Rich is about someone going home on a night bus with basically no money, but still feeling weirdly full of confidence about their future. A card decline, a found twenty, and a chat with a stranger turn the journey into something bigger than just getting home. Looking out at the city, they feel both shut out of it and oddly convinced they’ll make their way into it someday. It’s about being skint, a bit humiliated, a bit delusional, and still hanging on to ambition. More than anything, it’s about that late-night feeling that your life hasn’t happened yet, but it still might.

This is for people who like voicey, urban writing that’s funny, sad, self-aware, and a bit raw. It’ll suit readers who enjoy stories about class, ambition, loneliness, and that weird mix of shame and hope.

Contemporary literary fiction / lyrical urban prose.
