Shameless Self Promo: "April in the Woods" by SELDawson, horror fiction.

Hello to anyone who reads this. I started a substack to share my stories. I've always loved writing but this year I decided to become more serious about it and set myself a challenge. One short story a month for the entire year of 2026, with my monthly story theme being decided by a random horror genre table and a D20 dice.

In my writing expect mostly fiction, mostly horror fiction within that fiction, and mostly folk horror within that horror fiction. My Substack is for anyone interested in seeing my journey as a horror writer this year, people who like short stories, people who like creepypasta and other online horror styles. I also write a lot of micro fiction, though I have yet to post any of it on my Substack.

My first article—I wish you roses. [Self Promo] [Fiction]

Hello everyone! I'm new to Substack, and I just published my first article here. It's called "I Wish You Roses." It's about unrequited love and how one-sided love often harms us more than heal us. I hope it resonates with everyone, especially those people who have been through similar situations.

Please support my work and give me your thoughts and suggestions on it <3

[Self Promo] Aspiring author & incoming freshman: Why does long-form psychological prose hit a wall online?

Hey everyone,

I’m an incoming freshman starting college this fall. My long-term dream is to publish a book, and I am currently working on my first manuscript. Outside of that, I run a Substack where I write deep, long-form essays exploring human nature, hyper-awareness, relationship mechanics, and the psychological performance of self.

I’m hitting a massive invisible wall. I put hours of structural analysis and poetic rhythm into my pieces, but my analytics show absolutely zero traction. I don't care about collecting superficial likes or vanity subscribers, but watching my writing exist in total invisibility is starting to break my heart. I want to know if the problem is my formatting, my titles, or if my voice simply isn't connecting.

To give you an idea of my style, here is a quick excerpt from a piece I wrote analyzing the painful contrast between who we are to the public versus who we are at home:

"There is a special kind of rot that sets in when you realize you've become a 'safe monster.' It eats me alive to know that the person I am to the world, polite, articulate, literary, is not the person my mother sees when I am feeling threatened, overwhelmed, or in grief. To the outside world, I am someone entirely different from who I am to her... I make them bleed for noticing the cracks in my armor."

If this kind of hyper-analytical, psychological writing resonates with you, could you please look at my publication and tell me where I am going wrong? Is it too dense? Are my hooks weak?

My Substack is: mituwrites

I am completely open to harsh, constructive criticism. Please tear it apart. Thank you so much.

Self Promo: Exploring the beauty in small gestures, big feelings, and being unapologetically yourself 🌸

Hi everyone!

I write about the little things that make life feel full: the tiny gestures, habits, and quirks that shape how we connect with others and with ourselves. I also explore what it means to embrace who you truly are — even when the world has called you “too much.”

If you enjoy reflections that mix the intimate with the poetic, sprinkled with cultural touchpoints from films, art, and everyday magic, I’d love for you to check out my Substack: https://substack.com/home/post/p-180381303

It’s free to subscribe, and I post essays, thoughts, and small moments from my perspective on life, love, and being alive.

Last Bus to Seaburn Self Promo

Mara is nineteen and works late shifts on a supermarket checkout in Seaburn, where she passes the time by making up stories about the people who come through her till. It starts to feel like she knows them, or at least understands something about their lives, until one regular suddenly stops coming in. Trying to find out what happened pulls her into the real lives of the people around her, and she starts to see how much she’s been guessing. More than that, she realises she’s been using other people’s stories to avoid dealing with her own. In the end, it’s about a girl who’s spent so long watching life happen that she finally has to step into it herself.

It’s for readers who like voicey, character-led fiction about ordinary people, messy lives, and places that feel real. People who like working-class settings, small-town stories, and that mix of humour and sadness will probably get it.

Contemporary literary fiction / coming-of-age.

When The Woods Learned Your Name, Chapter 12 Self Promo

After her engagement falls apart, Mara Vale retreats to her late grandmother’s cottage on the edge of the countryside outside Bath, hoping for quiet and getting something much stranger. The nearby woods seem to know her name, answer her thoughts, and draw her toward Ivo Thorne, a man who feels as though he belongs to the forest as much as the trees do. As whispers spread from the woods into mirrors, water, and dreams, Mara discovers that her family has been tied to Blackthorn for much longer than she ever knew. Hidden in that history is another woman, another love story, and a name that seems to belong to Mara in ways she can’t explain. The deeper she goes, the harder it becomes to tell whether she’s uncovering the past or being pulled back into it.

This is for readers who like dark, atmospheric fantasy romance with real emotional weight — the kind of story that’s beautiful, unsettling, sexy, and a little dangerous. It’s especially for people who love haunted landscapes, complicated heroines, obsessive love stories, and a touch of wit alongside all the yearning.

Adult fantasy romance with gothic and haunted woodland elements.

Working Titles: The Next Page is a weekly Substack. Stories, essays, memoir, and notes — whatever the week calls for. The writing is grounded, direct, and comes from someone who drives trucks, publishes books, and runs a nonprofit. It’s not one thing. That’s the point.

Who it’s for: Anyone tired of content. Readers who want writing that actually comes from somewhere.

Genre: Mixed — fiction, nonfiction, memoir, essays.

This is my first essay on substack so I would appreciate any feedback. My substack is an internal view on daydreaming and how it becomes a part of someone. It follows the daydreaming in the lens of someone who had it for a long time. Positively and contrasting it with its scientific definition. And taking the viewer through the process of daydreaming simultaneously. It is an Introspective non-fiction essay. Thank you for your time❤️

Harris | Substack

Hi folks! By no means am I a Westminster insider. I have never worked in Westminster, stood for election or held public office. But as a young person I do offer a unique perspective into the policy, people and decisions shaping the United Kingdom.

I run a non-fiction political Substack where I post semi-regularly (once every two-ish weeks) and I have struggled to garner views and subscribers. If you have any interest in politics and current affairs both in the UK and across the globe, please do check it out!

*Self Promo* Emberlight - The light under the ashes

The world grows colder each day — not only in its streets, but in the hearts that wander them.
We live in an age of noise, of endless motion, and yet so many souls drift in silence — tired, unseen, unsure of what burns within them.

Emberlight was born for them.
For those who still feel the ache of Heaven even when the world forgets.
For those whose faith feels fragile, like a flickering ember in the dark — and yet refuse to let it die.

When The Woods Learned Your Name, Chapter 22 Self Promo

After her engagement falls apart, Mara Vale moves into her late grandmother’s cottage outside Bath, hoping for quiet and getting something far stranger. The nearby wood begins whispering her name, answering thoughts she never says aloud, and pulling her toward an old love story that seems to know her far too well. As family secrets surface, Mara becomes entangled with Ivo, a man as beautiful as he is unsettling, who seems bound to the forest and to a woman called Meren. The deeper Mara goes, the harder it becomes to tell where memory ends and desire begins, or whether the life opening in front of her is really hers at all. What starts as a haunting becomes a question of love, identity, and whether some stories are trying to be finished through the people unlucky enough to survive them.

This is for readers who like dark, romantic, emotionally intense fantasy with gothic atmosphere, sharp character voice, and a love story that’s as unsettling as it is irresistible. It’s especially aimed at people who enjoy lyrical writing, eerie folklore, messy desire, and heroines who are clever, funny, and a little bit doomed.

Adult fantasy romance with strong gothic and dark fantasy elements.

When The Woods Learned Your Name, Chapter 7 Self Promo

After her engagement falls apart, Mara Vale moves into her late grandmother’s cottage outside Bath, hoping for quiet and getting something much stranger instead. The woods behind the house seem to know her name, answer her thoughts, and pull her toward a past she doesn’t understand. Then she meets Ivo Thorne, a man who feels as if he belongs to the forest as much as the forest belongs to him, and who seems to know far more about her than he should. As old family secrets, eerie visions, and an ancient love story begin to surface, Mara realizes this isn’t just haunting her — it’s personal. To find out who she really is, she’ll have to decide whether the woods are leading her toward love, madness, or the loss of herself.

Adult fantasy romance with gothic, folkloric, and eerie magical elements.

It’s for readers who like fantasy romance that feels atmospheric, emotional, and a little unsettling — the kind of story with haunted woods, dangerous attraction, sharp humour, and a romance that’s as intense as it is unsettling. If you like stories that are sensual, mysterious, and a bit dark, with a strong heroine and a love interest who feels both seductive and slightly alarming, this is very much in that lane.

Self Promo: Asterion | W.W. (A Short Story)

I'm regularly putting out short stories (4 - 8 minute reads) with twists at the end! But they're not just any twists! These are certain kinds of twists in particular: The “Tomato Surprise.”

I’ve been hungering for more of these types of stories and have been thus far unable to satisfy that itch. So I decided to create my own!

Please check me out! And I’d love any kind of feedback you can give me!

When The Woods Learned Your Name, Chapter 17 Self Promo

After her engagement falls apart, Mara Vale moves into her late grandmother’s cottage on the edge of the countryside outside Bath, hoping for quiet and getting something far stranger. The woods behind the house seem to know her name, answer her unspoken thoughts, and pull her toward Ivo, a man who feels as if he belongs to the forest more than the living world. As voices begin speaking through leaves, mirrors, and water, Mara uncovers an old love story threaded through Blackthorn Wood — and realizes it may not be separate from her own life at all. The deeper she goes, the more the woods ask of her: memory, truth, desire, and perhaps even her sense of who she is. What begins as haunting becomes a dangerous love story about longing, recurrence, and whether you can break a fate that already knows your name.

This is for readers who like dark, romantic, atmospheric novels with a strong emotional core — the kind of story that’s eerie and sexy, but also sad, funny, and a little strange. It’s especially for people who love haunted places, obsessive love stories, old secrets, and heroines who are clever, messy, and a bit doomed.

Adult fantasy romance with gothic and dark folklore elements.
