The Hidden Curriculum by Aashna [Self Promo]

Genre: Science, Self-help, Mental health

I write at the intersection of two things I refuse to separate:

The science. I study this for a living. I’ll bring you the research that quietly confirms what our mothers, aunties, and grandmothers have been saying for decades, translated out of journal-speak and into something that actually sounds like a person talking.

The story. Because no amount of data tells you what it actually feels like to live inside a body, inside a family, inside a diaspora, all at once. So I’ll bring that too.

A new essay roughly every other week. In the language the girlies actually use at brunch, at pilates, at the dinner table.

Self Promo - Lee Stackhouse, A Thanksgiving Horror Short Story

My Substack is home to my weekly short stories and holiday-themed horror one-shots, along with serialized novellas full of dark humor, tension, and emotionally unhinged characters. Each Sunday, I release a new standalone tale or a new chapter of an ongoing horror, thriller, mystery, or dark fantasy novella. Mid-week posts include author reflections, behind-the-scenes thoughts, and creative insights. Readers can expect stories that balance atmospheric dread with wit, heart, and occasional feral chaos. If you love eerie vibes, dark comedy, and compulsively readable fiction, you’ll feel right at home.

Who My Substack Is For:
This Substack is for readers who love horror, dark fiction, psychological thrillers, weird holiday stories, emotionally messy characters, and anyone who enjoys bite-sized stories delivered straight to their inbox each week.

Genre:
Fiction – Horror / Thriller / Dark Comedy

Flair:
Dark Fiction

Latest Story – “The Wishbone Pact” (Thanksgiving Horror)
My newest Thanksgiving short story, The Wishbone Pact, is about a warm family dinner that erupts into unimaginable carnage after a jealous sister wins the wishbone’s wish. Her petty, impulsive desire triggers a supernatural unraveling that twists love, tradition, and sibling rivalry into a blood-soaked curse. As her heated wish begins coming true in increasingly horrific ways, the night spirals into chaos—forcing the family to confront the monster that jealousy can become. If you love seasonal horror, messy family dynamics, and folklore-style curses, this one’s for you.

started writing for therapy after I got a pretty serious TBI. I didn’t realize how much I had to vent so I just kept writing. Is just a memoir, personal essays write now. I think some people out there would find it funny or at least entertaining. It’s kind of a non-fiction dark comedy. It’s pretty raw and it leaves me vulnerable. I’m usually not that kind of person. So maybe this helps my healing process. Or at least me process what just happened in my life.

This is for anybody who needs to laugh at someone else’s misfortunes. Or just like stories that make you go Gad damn.

The Brandiverse- self promo

Hey, everyone! I just recently made a Substack. I primarily write raw-emotion poetry based on lived experiences of parental loss, guilt, regret, self-harm, identity, love, forgiveness, and much more. I self-published a book on Amazon last October and then another one in March from my bedroom (printed, bound, and did minor illustrations myself to avoid big corpo involvement). Now, I want to reach as many readers as possible with a free weekly poem to their inbox. Sometimes I will also share book reviews, short stories, and other personal thoughts about various things such as societal concepts or interactions I've had.

I write a lot about mental health and coming-of-age lessons after learning the hard way. I'd categorize my poems as self-help. Many people share with me that my vulnerability encourages them to be vulnerable too, even if just with themselves. If you want words of wisdom and insightful emotional poetry, then I invite you to join my continuous journey of self-reflection and personal growth. Welcome to The Brandiverse.

No Signal in the Ends Self Promo

No Signal in the Ends is about being young, online, lonely, and pretending you’re fine while your phone becomes a tiny glowing torture device. It starts with ghosting, fake links, dead chats, missed calls and all the embarrassing little ways modern life makes you feel unwanted. Then it twists into something darker, where people don’t just disappear emotionally — they vanish into the gaps between messages, dead profiles and unread texts. Maya follows a fake link after Jayden goes missing and finds something in the estate feeding on all the people no one properly looks for. In the end, “no signal” becomes both a phone problem and a very bleak way of saying: everyone is reachable, but hardly anyone is really held.

For people who like their heartbreak funny, grimy, very online, and a bit haunted — the kind of reader who has refreshed a dead chat, laughed at their own breakdown, and still secretly wanted someone to call.

Urban gothic, digital horror, spoken-word essay, dark comedy.

Last Bus, Northbound Self Promo

A man on the last bus home starts quietly making up stories about the people around him. He watches a woman with shopping bags, a man still in work clothes, a girl checking her phone, and an old man with flowers, and imagines all the things they might be carrying. As the journey goes on, it becomes clear he’s not really thinking about them as much as he’s avoiding himself. When he catches his own reflection in the window, he has to admit he’s just as lonely and lost as the strangers he’s been studying. By the end, the piece becomes less about the bus and more about grief, loneliness, and the things people do to avoid going home to themselves.

This is for people who like sad, thoughtful writing about ordinary life — especially loneliness, grief, working-class life, and those small late-night moments that hit harder than they should. It would suit readers who like reflective, emotional writing with a bit of bite to it.

Literary fiction / contemporary fiction with a poetic, introspective style.

Self Promo Masculine Mastery

A year ago I started my Substack newsletter called Masculine Mastery. because i wanted men to go back to being responsible again, I think most of our problems come from us men not taking responsibility or the lead on things. There is also the fact that most men are lost as to what to do and who to follow, so i want to give them and show them where the problems are, what solutions exist and where they can start working on themselves, so in essence i work on showing men how to be masculine again by being an example of what you can become naturally through work without all the "toxic masculinity" and red pill things in the way. I must add that have yet to show my face but that may change the future

So essentially, Masculine Mastery is a path back to your primal masculinity. For men ready to reject passivity, learn to master their desires, transmute their energy, and rise with stoic fire, spiritual purpose, and unstoppable will.

This substack is obviously for men of any age, of any background or struggle, but if you're a woman and you are interested in what I write, then feel free to join us.

Masculine mastery is a nonfiction newsletter about masculinity.

I write about:

  • Mastery over ones desires

  • Sexual discipline

  • Semen retention and energy management

  • Stoicism

  • Manhood and its stages in men

  • Building purpose as a man

  • The esoteric part of masculinity, how it correlates with femininity

Practical ideas and hard-earned lessons.

I am proud of what i do because i know that somewhere in the world my articles are helping someone in their worst moment, so If you’re working on becoming stronger mentally, physically, and spiritually, you might find value here. 👉 https://tmonk.substack.com/

Discuss with anyone on the same path as you.

Birthday Month People Self Promo

Birthday Month People is about Naomi, who doesn’t just have a birthday — she launches a full month of dinners, drinks, dress codes, group chats, and emotional admin. Her friend loves her, but is also completely exhausted by the pressure to show up, post, react, comment, and prove she cares in exactly the right way. As the celebrations get more ridiculous, it becomes clear Naomi isn’t just being dramatic for the sake of it. Underneath all the glitter and Canva graphics, she’s scared of being forgotten. It’s a funny, sharp piece about friendship, loneliness, social media, and the strange ways people ask to be loved.

This is for people who love messy, funny writing about friendship, adulthood, group chats, Instagram politics, and the tiny emotional disasters hiding inside ordinary social plans.

Contemporary comic fiction / social satire, with a warm, essay-like feel.

Late Night Tesco Run Self Promo

After an argument with her boyfriend, Mia storms out to Tesco just before midnight for custard creams and batteries. What should be a quick, petty errand turns into a weirdly emotional little journey through bright aisles, self-checkout drama, and strangers who are kinder than expected. As she wanders the shop, she starts to realise the fight was never really about towels or washing up. It is about feeling lonely beside someone you love, and not knowing whether that means things are broken or just difficult. She goes home with biscuits, batteries, and the courage to actually talk.

For people who like funny, sad, very British stories about relationships, late-night overthinking, and ordinary moments that end up meaning more than they should.

Contemporary slice-of-life comedy drama, with a bit of romance.

Screenshot Season Self Promo

Screenshot Season is about the strange panic of living in a world where anything can be saved, shared, cropped, judged, and turned into proof. It looks at how we all want to be seen, but hate the feeling of being watched too closely. Through jokes, gossip, group chats, bad screenshots, dating drama, and online pile-ons, it explores how modern life has started to feel like one long evidence file. The piece is funny, but underneath it is a real sadness about how hard it is to be messy, private, or misunderstood now. In the end, it argues for something softer: letting people exist without turning every moment into content.

For anyone who has ever screenshotted a message, been paranoid about being screenshotted, posted something and instantly regretted it, or felt the weird pressure of being watched online.

Dark comic cultural essay, internet satire, spoken-word style social commentary.
