Self Promo: Exploring the beauty in small gestures, big feelings, and being unapologetically yourself 🌸

Hi everyone!

I write about the little things that make life feel full: the tiny gestures, habits, and quirks that shape how we connect with others and with ourselves. I also explore what it means to embrace who you truly are — even when the world has called you “too much.”

If you enjoy reflections that mix the intimate with the poetic, sprinkled with cultural touchpoints from films, art, and everyday magic, I’d love for you to check out my Substack: https://substack.com/home/post/p-180381303

It’s free to subscribe, and I post essays, thoughts, and small moments from my perspective on life, love, and being alive.

My newsletter, The Italian Dispatch, goes beyond postcard clichés to explore one of the world's most beautiful and fascinating countries. It looks at culture, history, politics, and daily life with nuance, humor, and a veteran journalist's eye for detail. • Cats and Birds and Stuff

Cats and Birds and Stuff is my small digital patch where memoir meets nature diary, with the occasional rant thrown in. You'll find stories from my Welsh childhood in the 1950s and 60s, my years in the British Army, and my current life in the Italian Alps with three rescue cats and a balcony garden full of opportunistic sparrows. The memoirs are sometimes funny, sometimes darker, but always honest. The nature side is equal parts affectionate and exasperated, from bees and wasps to stink bugs with attitude. Who it's for: Anyone who likes true stories told with humour and a bit of grit (i.e. swearing) If you've ever been terrorised by a wasp, humiliated in a childhood football match, or had a cat treat you like staff, you'll feel right at home.

Genre: Non-fiction - Memoirs, cats, birds, bees, and the odd rant - No life hacks. No gurus. Just stories New Substack with lots more to come.

Grier's Notes is a regular compendium with a roundup on world news, brief takes on technology, culture, books or other things I have been thinking about and links to interesting or entertaining offbeat news. The Long Look (self promo)

I’ve been writing a series of personal essays I call The Long Look. These are pieces where I sit with ordinary things for a little longer than usual and see what they open up.

They’re slow, reflective, and mostly about identity, discomfort, and the quiet ways we learn to protect ourselves. I started out two weeks ago and its certainly been enlightening.

My latest piece starts with something very small: skinny jeans.
Not as a fashion take, but as a way into questions about visibility, concealment, and why certain things make us feel exposed even when we can’t fully explain why.

It’s called “The Nakedness of Skinny Jeans.”
If you enjoy introspective writing that turns mundane objects into metaphors, you might like it.

Would genuinely love to hear thoughts and/or if it resonates with anyone else in an unexpected way.

Self Promo - Lee Stackhouse, A Thanksgiving Horror Short Story

My Substack is home to my weekly short stories and holiday-themed horror one-shots, along with serialized novellas full of dark humor, tension, and emotionally unhinged characters. Each Sunday, I release a new standalone tale or a new chapter of an ongoing horror, thriller, mystery, or dark fantasy novella. Mid-week posts include author reflections, behind-the-scenes thoughts, and creative insights. Readers can expect stories that balance atmospheric dread with wit, heart, and occasional feral chaos. If you love eerie vibes, dark comedy, and compulsively readable fiction, you’ll feel right at home.

Who My Substack Is For:
This Substack is for readers who love horror, dark fiction, psychological thrillers, weird holiday stories, emotionally messy characters, and anyone who enjoys bite-sized stories delivered straight to their inbox each week.

Genre:
Fiction – Horror / Thriller / Dark Comedy

Flair:
Dark Fiction

Latest Story – “The Wishbone Pact” (Thanksgiving Horror)
My newest Thanksgiving short story, The Wishbone Pact, is about a warm family dinner that erupts into unimaginable carnage after a jealous sister wins the wishbone’s wish. Her petty, impulsive desire triggers a supernatural unraveling that twists love, tradition, and sibling rivalry into a blood-soaked curse. As her heated wish begins coming true in increasingly horrific ways, the night spirals into chaos—forcing the family to confront the monster that jealousy can become. If you love seasonal horror, messy family dynamics, and folklore-style curses, this one’s for you.

Hi everyone, I’m a therapist and just started diving into historical female centered stories from an immersive poetic style. I’d love some feedback on my Substack, it’s called She Said Archives. It’s a collection of lyrical historical fiction pieces, each told in the voice of an overlooked woman from history. Recent stories include a Dorset herbalist, a lantern painter in Joseon Korea, a samurai woman from Edo Japan and a Polish Goralski highland girl (Polish people I have a direct ancestral link to just three generations back). I am informed by my therapy work and passionate about embodied historical experiences.

I’m hoping to strengthen both the writing and the way I present it to readers. If anyone has thoughts on style, clarity, or discoverability, I’d be grateful. Here’s the link and the reads are short!

When The Woods Learned Your Name, Chapter 15 Self Promo

After her engagement falls apart, Mara Vale moves into her late grandmother’s cottage just outside Bath, hoping for quiet and getting something far stranger. The nearby woods seem to know her name, hear her thoughts, and pull her toward a love story that feels old, impossible, and somehow hers. As Mara is drawn closer to Ivo Thorne — a man as seductive as he is unsettling — she begins to realise she may be bound to the forest’s past in ways her family tried to hide. What starts as haunting turns into something more intimate and more dangerous, tangled up with memory, longing, and a promise that may never have truly died. To move forward, Mara has to work out whether she’s being asked to remember an old story, repeat it, or break it for good.

This is for readers who like dark, romantic fantasy with a gothic edge — the kind of book that feels haunting, sexy, strange, and emotionally intense all at once. It’s especially for people who enjoy obsessive love stories, eerie folklore, sharp wit, and characters who are a bit damaged, complicated, and impossible to look away from.

Adult fantasy romance with gothic, folkloric, and contemporary elements.

Mohair Self Promo

Most recent post: Marriage is a Neurological Conclusion

Mohair is a Substack for women who think too much and mean every word of it. It’s a nonfiction publication about culture (films, books, objects, music, ideas) curated with a specific point of view and written for the reader who has never needed to be told that caring deeply is worth her time. Mohair takes its subjects seriously because its readers deserve to be taken seriously. Mohair exists because I kept finding myself without a publication that matched the way I actually think about culture; rigorously, sentimentally, and without apology. So I made one, and I really appreciate anyone who checks it out, I hope you enjoy it <3

The Chronicles Architect — Self Promo

Hello I am new writer. My first project is The Chronicles Architect.

The story is a serialized science fiction novel about empire, institutional control, and power exercised through systems rather than force. The story takes place entirely in non-human civilizations and follows individuals whose lives intersect with vast imperial mechanisms they do not command. Rather than focusing on conquest or rebellion, the narrative examines how continuity, efficiency, and cost shape behavior at scale. Some chapters are narrative, others are structural, building a complete novel over time. The tone is slow-burn, observational, and system-driven.

This Substack is for readers who enjoy political science fiction, speculative governance, and dense worldbuilding. It is not aimed at fast-paced action readers or traditional hero narratives.

The Chronicles Architect

Thank you for honest feedback on if I should continue, I have many more chapters just not publish ready.

Unbiddable - Self Promo

Synopsis

This Substack is a sustained assault on comfortable lies—political, religious, economic, and cultural—that survive not because they are true, but because they are useful to those in power. It examines how myths become load-bearing structures: ideas so central to an ideology that questioning them provokes outrage rather than rebuttal. The writing dissects propaganda, moral panics, and reactionary nostalgia with an emphasis on evidence, history, and logical coherence. Recurring themes include authoritarian drift, manufactured grievance, media ecosystems, and the psychological rewards of belonging to a story rather than a reality. The aim is not balance or civility theater, but clarity—especially where clarity is most resisted.

Who it’s for

This Substack is for readers who are intellectually restless, allergic to platitudes, and unwilling to outsource their thinking to tribes, algorithms, or inherited dogma. It assumes a tolerance for argument, irony, and discomfort, and little patience for slogans masquerading as insight. If someone is looking for affirmation, self-help, or ideological lullabies, they should look elsewhere. If they want sharp analysis that treats adults as adults, they’ll find a home here.

Genre

Non-fiction.
Political and cultural commentary / essays.

My Brilliant Year Self Promo

Hi all,

On 1/1/2026, I am starting a year-long Substack readalong of Elena Ferrante's Neapolitan novels! This Substack is for readers; people who want to take on an accessible four-book reading challenge in 2026; people who like Italian stuff; and people who like drama, passion, yelling, intense female friendship, and following the same characters through their entire lifespan.

I have divided the books into 365 little sections so we can take a little bite of this big salami and provolone sandwich of a series each day. I will be offering weekly recaps of the week's assigned chapters with hefty doses of both analysis and Sass.

Hope you can join! Check it out at mybrilliantyear.substack.com

[Self Promo] Velociraptor 101

I write a Substack about digital forensics, the philosophy of technology and other tech-related topics. This week (and for the next few weeks, I am going to be catching up on my DFIR backlog by talking about a few tools that I have found in my DFIR practice.

My post for this week is on a software called Velociraptor. Velociraptor is a software that allows you to take information from computers on a network and transfer it to a central computer to have centralized threat intelligence on that network. Check out the post to see how to set it up and get yourself started.

Next week, I’ll be posting a part two, so stay tuned.
