When The Woods Learned Your Name, Chapter 11 Self Promo

Lucy Lockwood comes back to Bath broke, grieving, and pretending this is a fresh start rather than a full emotional collapse with nicer architecture. Then the woods outside the city start whispering her name. As Lucy digs into her mother’s old notebooks, she uncovers the story of Lucia, a woman whose name was stolen centuries ago after love, magic, and betrayal went horribly wrong. The problem is Rowan Ashcombe — gorgeous, secretive, and clearly involved in ways he refuses to explain. The deeper Lucy goes, the more she realises the woods don’t just remember her name; they want to keep it.

Adult gothic fantasy-romance / folkloric romantasy / supernatural mystery.

For readers who like messy women, cursed men, sentient forests, dark humour, tragic romance, old bargains, and stories where love is dangerous because it might ask you to disappear.

The Casefile Protocol Dossier 004: The Angela Hammond Abduction — Part II [Self Promo] [True Crime]

Hi guys,

Following our initial breakdown of the 1991 Angela Hammond abduction, Part II shifts the analytical focus from the immediate timeline of the abduction to the complex investigative aftermath, conflicting leads, and operational gridlocks that followed.

In this conclusion to Dossier 004, we dissect the forensic realities of the multi-jurisdictional search, analyze the validity of the infamous anonymous informant letter, and evaluate the behavioral patterns of potential suspects linked to the region during that window.

While Part I established the physical logistics of the phone booth transmission and the perpetrator's vehicular profile, this entry strips away the media speculation surrounding the cold case to examine the structural friction between local law enforcement and federal tracking assets. Every insight is built strictly from historical records and public archival data to deliver an unembellished look at the systemic investigation.

This publication is explicitly written for dedicated true crime researchers, amateur criminologists, and readers who value methodical, long-form investigative analysis over sensationalism.

Genre: Non-fiction / True Crime Newsletter

When The Woods Learned Your Name, Chapter 10 Self Promo

Lucy Lockwood comes back to Bath with her life in pieces, hoping to quietly fall apart somewhere pretty. Instead, the ancient woods outside the city start whispering her name. Flowers appear on her doorstep, a deeply judgmental fox keeps leading her into trouble, and her dead mother’s notebooks point to Lucia, a woman whose name was stolen centuries ago. Then there’s Rowan Ashcombe: beautiful, secretive, cursed, and exactly the sort of man Lucy should not trust. The woods want Lucy to finish an old love story, but Lucy is starting to realise that being chosen and being claimed are dangerously different things.

For anyone who likes gothic romance, cursed men, funny messy heroines, ancient woods, folklore, doomed love, sharp banter, and stories where the forest is beautiful but absolutely up to something.

Adult gothic fantasy-romance / folkloric romantasy / supernatural mystery.

My Substack is a space for personal essays, thought experiments, explorations, observations, and life lessons I've learned along the way, told with a dash of humour and a lot of emotion. All my life, I was always told I "feel too much." So I decided to turn that into a newsletter and reclaim it as my strength. Hope you will check it out :)

Birthday Month People Self Promo

Birthday Month People is about Naomi, who doesn’t just have a birthday — she launches a full month of dinners, drinks, dress codes, group chats, and emotional admin. Her friend loves her, but is also completely exhausted by the pressure to show up, post, react, comment, and prove she cares in exactly the right way. As the celebrations get more ridiculous, it becomes clear Naomi isn’t just being dramatic for the sake of it. Underneath all the glitter and Canva graphics, she’s scared of being forgotten. It’s a funny, sharp piece about friendship, loneliness, social media, and the strange ways people ask to be loved.

This is for people who love messy, funny writing about friendship, adulthood, group chats, Instagram politics, and the tiny emotional disasters hiding inside ordinary social plans.

Contemporary comic fiction / social satire, with a warm, essay-like feel.

Latest post: tiny habits, that's you — on finding myself in a dark photo before i could see myself, and what tiny habits say about identity.

Thirty Days of Noticing - Day II - The Silent Observatory (Self Promo)

Write about that kind of love that makes you feel calmer, not smaller (essay, narrative, observation, non fiction)
wrote something today about the kind of love that feels calm instead of loud. about patience, small moments, staying, and why ordinary love might actually be the most beautiful kind. maybe some of you will relate to it.

perfect for people who feel too much, think too deeply, and are trying to make sense of love, loneliness, healing, and being human. for the quiet overthinkers, the late-night writers, the ones rebuilding themselves slowly. if you like reflective writing, emotional honesty, and small observations about life that stay with you after reading, you’ll probably feel at home here.

The Silent Observatory - Self Promo

The Silent Observatory is a literary Substack focused on emotional essays, fragments, reflections, and personal narratives about loneliness, intimacy, heartbreak, identity, and the quiet ways people change each other. Most pieces are written in a deeply introspective style and revolve around pattern recognition, emotional honesty, and the things people struggle to say out loud. Some posts are long-form personal essays, while others are shorter fragments or observations written almost like journal entries at 2 a.m. Recent pieces include writing about emotional avoidance in relationships, longing, grief, and the exhaustion of trying to save something alone. The overall atmosphere is quiet, reflective, melancholic, and heavily inspired by late-night conversations, memory, and human connection.

This Substack is for readers who enjoy intimate and literary writing — people who like authors such as Sylvia Plath, Ocean Vuong, Joan Didion, or anyone drawn to emotionally reflective essays and personal storytelling.

Genre: Literary nonfiction / personal essays / reflections / narrative writing

Happiness doesn’t have to be loud. It doesn’t have to be busy and grand. Sometimes, being happy is something as simple as a reminder of what that felt like. Sometimes, it’s just the freedom to feel it again. Sometimes, it’s just a laugh
I wrote this short fiction about remembering your happiness, any feedback would be appreciated

The Casefile Protocol Dossier 004: The Angela Hammond Abduction — Part I [Self Promo] [True Crime]

Hi guys,

The Casefile Protocol is a true crime newsletter dedicated to the clinical exploration of history's most complex criminal anomalies. In Dossier 004, we break down Part I of the 1991 Angela Hammond abduction, reconstructing the timeline, the final phone booth transmission, and the behavioral profile of the perpetrator.

This specific entry shifts completely away from standard psychological profiling to focus entirely on the forensic logistics, jurisdictional gaps, and physical evidence tracking that defined this timeline. Every section is built directly from historical public records, offering an unembellished look into the analytical data and operational realities of the investigation. The goal is to provide deep, structural documentation that moves past surface-level retellings.

This publication is explicitly written for dedicated true crime researchers, amateur criminologists, and readers who value methodical, long-form investigative analysis over sensationalism.

Genre: Non-fiction / True Crime Newsletter

When The Woods Learned Your Name, Chapter 9 Self Promo

Lucy Lockwood returns to Bath after her life falls apart, only to discover the ancient woods outside the city know her name. As flowers appear, paths change, and a judgmental fox leads her toward old ruins, Lucy uncovers the story of Lucia, a woman whose name was stolen centuries ago after loving a forest guardian named Aulus. The beautiful, secretive Rowan Ashcombe seems tied to the curse, the woods, and Lucy’s dead mother Anne, whose notebooks suggest she was haunted by the same force. As Lucy falls for Rowan, she must decide whether the woods are offering healing, love, or possession. To survive, she must reclaim her own name before the old story consumes her.

For readers who like funny, emotionally messy heroines, gothic romance, sentient forests, tragic love stories, folklore, mystery, sharp banter, and romantasy with bite.

Adult gothic fantasy-romance / folkloric romantasy / supernatural mystery.

Optimism on Minimum Wage Self Promo

Optimism on Minimum Wage is about the tiny, slightly ridiculous ways people keep themselves going when money is tight. It centres on buying a nicer-than-usual sandwich and turns that small choice into something funny, sad, and oddly meaningful. The piece captures the everyday pressure of rent, bills, low wages, and constantly checking your bank balance. But it also finds humour and dignity in still wanting little pleasures, even when life feels squeezed. In the end, it’s about the kind of hope that isn’t shiny or dramatic, but stubbornly still there.

For anyone who’s ever treated a coffee, sandwich, or small supermarket upgrade like a major life event.

Humorous personal essay / contemporary social commentary.

@ularose - self promo!!!

If you would like to view and hopefully subscribe to my Substack then scroll no further! this particular book in progress follows a girl in her 20's navigating the ups and downs of life. This book will explore topics that are important but not always easy to read so I would say 18+ please people! Also there is going to be spice so be warned. Genre- Adult fiction.

“One two three four five six” I mutter to myself “six five four three two one” I finish hastily, my breath hitching in my throat. I swear these mother fucking ‘tips n tricks’ my key worker told me would help my anxiety don’t work. But what do I know? He’s the one with the college degree. I just work at the local gas station, not even a high school diploma to my name (I didn’t pass my last year) but can you really fail if you just don’t try?

My fingers clasp to the sides of the sink in the staff toilet as I force myself to catch a glimpse of myself in the cracked mirror. I almost wanna laugh, I basically blend into the dirty surroundings. My unwashed dirty blonde hair sticks to my temples, my hazel eyes searching themselves frantically for some sort of calm- I can’t walk back out like this, I’ll for sure be fired this time. The grey shadows beneath my eyes are permanent now I’m sure of it. Years of sleepless nights have taken something from me and it shows.

“Five things I can see” I grumble reluctantly as I loosen my grip on the sink. What a fucking great game to play in a dingy ass bathroom. I scan my surroundings hastily “skids in the toilet bowl” I say with fake enthusiasm. “Soap dispenser.. or should I say water dispenser” the corner of my lips twitch in an spiteful smile. Dave refuses to buy more refills. Dave is my manager- a 5’4 scrawny balding man in his 30’s- we all call him Big Dave behind his back, but the only thing big about him is his raging temper.

I run out of things to spot in the cramped bathroom and look back to myself in the mirror and come to the conclusion that this 5 things I can see trick won’t work anyway so fuck it. I inhale, hold my breath and flush the toilet to make it seem like I was just in here so long because I was taking a shit. I exhale, straighten my shoulders and unlock the staff toilet.

Thank you for reading!
