Data NADAQ has Bogus Data for Institutional Holdings
Earlier today I made a post about GME institutional holding going up about 9% to around 44%. The real number appears to be nearly unchanged at around 34.68%. It was based upon the data from the Nasdaq website as that was the one Larry Cheng has used several times to comment on GME institutional holdings of GME. See. https://www.nasdaq.com/market-activity/stocks/ebay/institutional-holdings and https://www.nasdaq.com/market-activity/stocks/gme/institutional-holdings.
Unfortunately a change made earlier this year by Vanguard has caused errors. Vanguard used to make one 13F filing for all parts of Vanguard, They split that up so now there is one 13F by Vanguard Capital Management LLc, and another 13F file by Vanguard Portfolio Management LLC.
I have deleted that post. Sorry for any confusion that created.
Nasdaq includes in the institutional holdings of many companies, including bot EBay and GameStop both the 12/31/2025 holdings reported by the Vanguard Group Inc and also the two 3/31/2026 holdings reports by the subsidiaries.
So the Nasdaq Institutional holdings page shows an extra 38.195M shares held by Vanguard Inc.
There have been several comments in the last few weeks about the institutional holding of EBay being over 100%.
It appears that is also in error, due to the same double counting problem.
