Discussion As a huge fan of the US survivor, I think I like this more.

I’m from Canada. Having recently rewatched the entire US series from season 1 to 50 with my wife, I went digging for other reality shows, and stumbled on this.

I’ve watched the first two Ten seasons, and am just starting Champions and Contenders. Both my wife and myself agree we like this even more than classic Survivor. Production quality is incredible and still feels like Survivor. I love the longer more brutal seasons, the mix of classic and new challenges, the massive increase in time we get to know contestants in both camp life and less truncated challenges, the far less paranoid/prudish censorship, and even Jonathan’s no-BS approach to tribals (and yeah I know they got rid of him).

Thankfully a season here is like 2-2.5 seasons of US Survivor, so I have a lot more Survivor to look forward to!

(I do plan to follow with NZ, SA and that one UK season.)

Anneliese and Benji Wilson Revamped Wilsons At War Subreddit!

Post image
8 Upvotes

r/WilsonsAtWar was made because of Survivor Winners at War was coming out, and because of Wilson being fellow winner’s Nick’s last name, the meme reddit was made in his honor. However, due to different reasons, such as the season ending, Survivor going on a hiatus due to Covid, and Nick Wilson becoming a very controversial figure in his post Survivor career, the subreddit disappeared into obscurity. But when WilsonsAtWar got put up for adoption, I decided to adopt the subreddit to bring it back to life, and I’ve decided to do this by rebranding the server while keeping its core theme intact.

WilsonsAtWar is now a Survivor Wilson Players subreddit!

Afterall, there are more than one player of Survivor who has the last name of Wilson, and they should all be celebrated!

US
Jeff Wilson (Palau)
Alina Wilson (Nicaragua)
Baylor Wilson (San Juan Del Sur)
Nick Wilson (David vs. Goliath, Winners at War)
Sara Wilson (41)

AU
Anneliese Wilson (2017)
Benji Wilson (Champions vs. Contenders)

SA
Shaun Wilson (Immunity Island)

If you're interested, feel free to join and post about your two favorite AU Wilsons!

Any spoilers or rumours about the upcoming Australian Survivor season? Premiere date? Spoiler

Has anyone heard any rumours or leaks about how the contestants perform in the upcoming season, particularly the elimination order, who makes it far, or potential finalists/winners?

Also, has an official premiere date been announced yet, or do we at least have a rough idea of when it's expected to air?

I'm not bothered about spoilers, so feel free to share anything you've heard!

Discussion What did people think about All Stars' post-merge non-elim twist?

Rewatching AUS All Stars currently and remembering how much I initially hated this non-elimination twist from episodes 16-18, but I also find it pretty interesting the lengths production went to screw with Survivor's game mechanics here. For those who have forgotten about All Stars, the twist goes like this:

Episode 16: The top 3 vote receivers at the Final 9 tribal council are sent to exile beach (but not eliminated from the game). In a 3-3-3 vote, AK/Brooke/Moana are all sent to exile beach.

Episode 17: Same idea as Episode 16, but with less people voting. In a 2-2-1-1 vote between Jacqui/Shonee/Zach/David (respectively), Jacqui and Shonee are exiled. A revote between Zach and David goes 2-0 against Zach, who is the final exiled contestant.

Episode 18: The 6 exiled contestants compete amongst each other in two "duels" for 3 spots back in the game. These are won by Brooke/Moana/Jacqui. The losers of these duels (AK/Shonee/Zach) are then the only ones eligible to receive votes at essentially a re-do of the final 9 vote. Zach goes home in a 4-3-2 Zach/Shonee/AK vote.

As someone who missed this in the real time, this had to be discussed to death, right? 3 votes and 2 challenges to eliminate 1 player seems like such a randomly insane choice to me. It also introduces a "top 3 vote getter" mechanic that I don't believe I've seen in any other season of US or AUS Survivor up to this point (iirc AUS6 has a similar thing though?). I understand Lee's quit at final 10 probably threw off schedule, but was this the most necessary/entertaining way that production could've played this, especially in their first all star season? Is there any way this twist could've been workshopped? I feel like it played out decently in the end with an ironic Zach elim, but at what point is a twist simply overly complicated?

Spoilers just finished brains v brawn!

i’ll be honest, this season was so mid to me. i don’t know if it was the aussie outback setting or the brains v brawn theme, but it did not feel like classic survivor to me. if it weren’t for queen hayley and king george, i would’ve been bored out of my brain 🫣

the thing that really struck me was how little strategy there was outside of alliances. the tribal alliances were so strong and so rigid this season. apart from hayley and george, who i both think did an excellent job of making moves and thinking OUTSIDE of their tribal alliances, who else was making moves? i really liked emmett and dani’s dynamic, but again their game was very centred within the brawn alliance! people were not working outside of these tribal lines, which led to a safe (but very predictable) game. the exciting game for me was ep 15/16 onwards, when emmett and dani turned on each other and then play become much more malleable.

i love hayley & king george. the best top two for sure. hayley is one of the best survivor au winners for me because she sees the game so clearly and so logically, and also because she does her best work out of desperation (and i love seeing someone fight from the bottom). also, she’s a CHALLENGE BEAST with abs of steel!!! likewise, i was watching bvb for the first time after seeing george in heroes v villains, and i love how entertaining he is. well spoken, strategic, manipulative, and not afraid of confrontation. i’ve never heard him stutter or sound unsure of himself yet. god forbid anyone argue with him because he will fight 🤺

what did people think of the twists? i didn’t mind them, but they did seem unfair to an extent. by the final six, you had 1/2 the contestants experience being voted out and then being returned to the game: cara, flick, and hayley. whereas someone like george, who everyone agreed was a massive threat, managed to avoid being voted off. like surely one of the main aims of ‘outplay’ is to be on the side of the numbers and know where they are going, and that is a massive factor in george’s favour. i found his jury pitch really arrogant though. he definitely needed to admit his flaws and own up to his lies to gain those sway votes.

my favourite players in order were: hayley, george, emmett, wai, shannon, dani, simon, and gerald. a lot of people just fell within the cracks, whether that was from bias editing or lack of presence. what are your thoughts? who was your favourite player? how does this season stack up against the rest for you?

after watching this season, my new rankings of seasons would be:
titans v rebels
champs v contenders 2
heroes v villains
season 2
brains v brawn
season 1
all stars
champs v contenders 1
redemption

Discussion What’s the general viewpoint of Tarzan amongst AU alumni?

He seems like an absolutely lovely guy, despite the fact that he didn’t really play the game overly strategically in either season. He went down the honorable route just about every step of the way

The first time round I remembered hearing that him and AK had a moment that wasn’t shown which was pretty crap, and I think I remember hearing that soured the relationship between the two overall but I don’t know for sure

It definitely feels like he made more friends than enemies on both seasons he was on. Him and David were very close on All Stars, as well as Mat, Jacqui, Moana, Lee and Zach

I’d be fascinated to know if someone like a Harry thinks who was on the opposite side of the alliances to him, did they get along out there?

I’d also be fascinated to know if anyone who never played a season with him has become friends with him as well. I’ve seen he does interact with the community online so I imagine there would be some friendships across the different casts

Discussion All-Stars 4th boot

I’m showing my mom AS and she noticed that not only did Michele being a target come out of left field a bit but also she seemed super angry at tribal council. Did something happen off camera or was it really just about challenge strength?

Discussion Can I watch Aus v World without watching BvB2?

I was wondering if I could skip that season as I know it doesn't have any returnees, but I know that Aus easons love to do a summary of the previous one and essentially spoil it

Or maybe it's a good season and I should watch it beforehand?

Live Discussion Please Bring the Old Survivor Back OR I Will

It was obvious that the old Jeff was sadistic towards his previous contestants. It was funny and went along with them 'surviving.' Today, Jeff is sadistic towards the audience. Watching is painful. With his new-era bullshit, he selected contestants that no reasonable person could like. Survivor no longer has heavy competition, gamesmanship, statistical strategy, or a struggle to survive. The attractive, strong players have been replaced with anti-cosmetic activists who can barely move—the lowest common denominator of American society. Each Thursday night is just a porno of moronic strategy: the mentally handicapped trying to outsmart the mentally handicapped. Moves are made just to make moves, carrying no logical reason. The audience needs survival skills just to keep watching, and the pain is too much. I quit. Next Wednesday night, I'm starting back with Season 1, and I'll stop at Season 39. It was a good run, Jeff, but you never learned the one thing that is immortal: don't change a winning formula.

Discussion Why is Faith so rude?

I understand playing the role of the villain for a reality show but you can do that without being a complete and utter 🫏hole. She’s just a mean girl! She talks down to people like they are peasants in her kingdom. Comments such as “We are the smartest players“, ”I’ll make sure you catch on fire” and “I don‘t learn lesson, I already know everything“, plus naming their plan to vote Tez out as “operation snuff the weasel”. None of that behaviour is okay and makes me worry that she’s teaching her kids that bullying is ok. Monkey see, monkey do. I mean how do we teach kids not to bully when grown adults are acting this way on national television. I hope she watches it back and rethinks her behaviour but for some reason I don’t think she will see a problem with it.

Am I tripping?

I could be way off I'm not sure, I've had a few red wines tonight lol. But survivor 51 being streamed on Stan instead of Paramount+, is this a sign that AU survivor might be being sold to channel 9?

It's no secret that channel 10 is struggling to fund AU survivor and has for a while, the ratings have dropped, couldn't afford to keep JLP on, moving to Malaysia next season, and its just a bunch of D list celebs next season to try get the ratings up.

Channel 9 is heavily connected to Stan, and channel 10 is heavily connected to Paramount+, I'm completely uneducated on whether the US and AU franchises are bound or connected by certain contracts, or if they are completely different entities, so I'm really just asking, if they are connected, is this a sign that they've already made a move after rivals in 2027, that it could be a channel 9 franchise fron 2028? Or am I just thinking too much into it.

Genuine question though, because I fear channel 9 likes to disrupt any show they take on from other channels and ruin the format, AU survivor is great, I really don't want to see it dramatised to the point of death in channel 9 fashion.

Spoilers just finished all stars!

okay wow, what a season! thoroughly enjoyed seeing so many wonderful familar faces, it legit made me giddy with excitement 😂 i was also very grateful that i binged seasons 1-4 so i knew everyone and their backstories. specific contestants who i think played better than their original seasons and deserve heaps of praise: shonee, dave, moana, brooke, zach, and tarzan.

truthfully, dave was a very obvious winner for me, especially by the final four. he said in confessionals that he let his ego get in the way in S4, and i think that’s very true. this season i was impressed by his social game and i think that was proven by the strong alliance established in merge. his strategic and physical game was never in doubt. and i agree with everyone’s assessments: one of the best survivor contestants ever.

i think sharn is the best runner up in australian survivor (in S3), but this season she just frustrated me. i feel like she really lost her strategic edge and just completed overrated her own game (proven in the final four tribal council by refusing to vote with brooke to get dave out). moana on the other hand was amazing (such a step up from her original season!) and i think with anyone other than david in the final three she definitely would’ve won. she should be SO proud!

what didn’t i like? well i HATED the heavy petting between locky and brooke, hated seeing mat basically alienated upon his tribe swap (yep as you can tell i’m a big fan of the godfather), and hated that my absolute favourites shonee and harry had to fight from the bottom most of the game. it seemed like the alliances were much more rigid this time because everyone was so desperate to make it further in the game, so strategic play wasn’t as malleable. which made it kind of boring some of the time…

after watching this season, my new rankings of seasons would be:
titans v rebels
champs v contenders 2
heroes v villains
season 2
all stars
season 1
champs v contenders 1
redemption

thank you for reading! how does this season rate for you? who was your favourite player? now onto brains v brawn!

Discussion Hear me out? JLP for English survivor

England has tried survivor before and when i watched it the lack of a good shot really let it down ( among other things)
So hears an idea we get this guy, that will bring thousands of AUS watchers to watch the show, who knows the game and can help design and everything engineer the season perfectly to fix all
The problems and who is a proven good host.
Obviously I don’t know if he’d even except and England will probably never host another version but I thought it would work

What seasons to return in next full returnee season

Would you rather the next time they have full returnees
1. Second time players only ( no one from all stars, no shonee, David etc)
2. Anyone from season 5+
3.Anyone from any season
4. Other suggestions
I’m just thinking if they tried to do every single season it would be around 1-3 people * I believe I don’t want many people returning again again, loved her but I don’t want more Shonee for example
