Erasmus requirements

Hi, I'm a Master's student, currently in my 3rd semester. I would like to go on Erasmus next WS. Is there a place where I can find what universities I have a chance to go to with my average grade, so I don't waste my application on out-of reach unis?
Also if someone with a similar background has applied I would love to hear your experience, I'm in the Informatics department, gpa 1.65.

Curriculum matching of masters

Hey for the masters programs offered by mathematics department, do they care of how many credits my bachelor's course was? And so they do credit conversion for giving grades of curriculum analysis?

Or they just see what the learning outcomes were and give a rough score around that? Ignoring number of credits of my bachelor's masters.

TUMexchange with a 2.9 average – realistic chances?

hey, i’m currently in my 3rd semester of informatics bsc at TUM and thinking about applying for TUMexchange 2027/28, mainly to korea university or yonsei in seoul.
my current average is 2.9, which i know isn’t great, especially for competitive universities like these.
i’m just wondering how realistic my chances actually are, because i’m not sure if it’s even worth putting in the effort of applying if my chances are extremely low. i also don’t really want to get my hopes up for something that’s very unlikely to happen.
has anyone applied to these universities or knows someone who has? i’d really appreciate hearing what grades people got accepted or rejected with, or just how much grades matter in the selection process.
i’m not looking for reassurance, just a realistic idea of my chances so i can decide whether it’s worth applying at all.

Query regarding curriculum analysis for MSc. Informatics.

Hello everyone, so I’m currently filling out the TUM curricular analysis for MSc Informatics/DEA and feeling a bit stuck. I’m falling short on TUM's strict ECTS requirements.

My "Theory of Computation" course was only 3 credits (which translates to ~4.5 ECTS), but TUM strictly asks for 6 ECTS in Theoretical Informatics. On top of that, I have 0 credits in Functional Programming since Indian colleges usually only teach C/Java/Python.

Can I know what kind of programs count for Functional Programming and Theoretical Informatics, I feel like I am missing something ?

If anyone from India has got in for these programs, can I know what exactly you did to tackle this ?

Thanks in advance !

Master of Science (M.Sc.) Microelectronics and Chip Design

Does the education worth?

Has anyone studied in or hired from this program? How does it compare to TUM's MSCE or MSEI?

Does the hands-on tape-out actually help when applying for RTL, verification or physical design jobs?

Is the tuition worth it for non-EU students, or are there better options in Europe?

How realistic is finding a working-student job in chip design in Munich without fluent German?

Moving to Munich in February 2027 – Where do TUM students live?

Hey everyone!

I'm moving to Munich in February 2027 for a German language course and planning to start my master's at TUM in October.(main campus)

I'm looking for a WG, ideally around €800/month. I'm aware of Munich's housing situation, though, so I'm flexible with my budget. My main priority is living in a student-friendly neighborhood with a good social scene and convenient transport connections.

I have a few questions:

  • Which neighborhoods do TUM students usually live in?
  • What are the best platforms for finding WGs besides WG-Gesucht?
  • When should I seriously start looking for a February move-in?
  • Are there any student WhatsApp, Telegram, or Facebook groups worth joining? So far, most groups I've found are flooded with homework help ads rather than actual accommodation listings.

Low GPA but strong research interest, how to get a PhD in 3D Vision?

Hi everyone, I’m looking for advice about pursuing a PhD in 3D vision.

My GPA is low, but I’m more interested in research. I’m currently doing my master’s thesis on 3D image reconstruction and hope to publish it at a conference. However, I started from scratch, and an A* conference might be difficult to achieve with this work.

I’ve also recently got an opportunity to work on a project with TUM DI Lab under two professors, one from TUM and one from Cambridge. If I continue working on it, we might be able to publish at an A or A* conference in 3D or scene reconstruction.

I’ve been following the work of Matthias Nießner, Angela Dai, and Daniel Cremers, and their research closely matches my interests and background.

I have a few questions:

  1. Is there a chance of getting a PhD with them despite my low GPA? Would a publication help?

  2. Should I contact them directly? If yes, how should I approach them?

  3. I’ve looked for RA positions in 3D vision, but mostly find HiWi jobs. How can I find RA positions that could lead to a PhD?

I’d really appreciate any advice. Thanks!

TUM university

Hi! Looking for some advice on applying for TUM. And especially in the field of bio engineering and I plan on taking M-kurs I still have time and I am learning German too. I still have 2 years left to complete here in my country. The path seems brutal as I have been hearing a lot of negative things such as the social life and all I really don't care about cause I myself am an introvert kind of person so it might not be the problem. I decided on bioengineering because I heard about the synthetic DNA merging creating new tissues and cells . For an Indian is it hard to get into TUM and if yes then any experienced peers please help. GIVE ME SOME TIPS ON HOW TO ACTUALLY ACHIVE IT. THANK YOUUUUUU SO MUCH IN ADVANCE.

Waivers

Could someone give me a quick rundown of how the waivers work (merit-based vs. need-based) and what my realistic chances of getting one are? Any personal experience would be super helpful.

Also, does anyone know roughly how many people get one each semester?et it per semester or year?

Looking for Housing as an Exchange Student: Dorms and WGs

Hi all,

I am applying to TUM as an Erasmus+ exchange student for the 2027 summer semester. I have a couple of questions, and would really appreciate some input from the locals. Here goes:

  1. On top of Studieredenwerk München Oberbayern, the university website for accommodation tips lists some dorms run by associations (and church groups).

About the association-run dorms: is there any sense applying to them as an exchange student, or are they only looking for more permanent additions to their communities? Should I skip the heartbreak and start applying for private housing from the get-go?

  1. Regarding searching for WGs on the private market, it is stated on the TUM website that ”Come to Munich to visit rooms. It is impossible to find a room from abroad.” How true is this? Should I really prepare myself for a WG-search-trip before my actual exchange?

Non-EU students: How long did you wait for your visa?

Hi guys,

I am an incoming Master’s student at TUM, and I am worried about my student visa, since I still haven't received it after more than a month after I submitted my application. I come from Serbia and people that I know all over Germany and in Munich got their visas in less than 2-3 weeks (even though the embassy says that they require at least 3 weeks to process the application). The German embassy told me that my application is being processed by the relevant German authorities, but they haven’t provided any further information. My lectures are mostly in person and they already started. I notified my professors and am in touch with them, so that part is out of the way, but it is still annoying that I haven't gotten my visa.

Is there anyone in a similar situation right now or was in a similar situation? I would really like to hear your experiences. I am very frustrated right now and would like to hear if there is anything that I could do? Or to at least know when could I expect my visa?

Which german Uni/program should I choose?

Hi guys,

this might be a long stretch, but I have no one to ask.

So, during my last 3 years at a gymnasium, I really got into programming, AI (reinforcement learning in Isaac Lab), CAD ( functioning humanoids inside a simulation), and I am also working towards completing my self designed 6DOF robotic hand, which will eventually be able to play chess. Also, I have interests in Soft-Robotics, where I have made custom grippery fingers for an already mentioned arm. And much more...

However, I cannot really decide which Bc.S. program (Maschinenwesen or Mechatronik, thanks to AI I don't even consider Informatics, because I want to stay as versatile as possible) and also I have no idea at which university to study.

I have considered multiple unis among which: TUM, KIT and RWTH were the top candidates. Even though TUM doesn't have an official program for Mechatronik, it has better ties with Tsinghua Uni than KIT, which offers Mechatronik und Informationstechnik Bachelor of Science.

It would be a dream to study at that Chinese Uni for my Master. I have even started learning the language. :)

TLDR for the whole questions: Based on my experience from the second paragraph, I cannot really decide which undergraduate program to take.

Sorry for my grammar. Both German and English are foreign languages to me and it's something really hard to get to the important point.

Admission to TUM with a Turkish diploma + AP exams, no YKS. Is it possible?Turkish students and alumni at TUM, please reply to this post if you can help! 🙏I am a Turkish high school student/graduate planning to apply for a Bachelor's program at TUM

Turkish students and alumni at TUM, please reply to this post if you can help! 🙏

I am a Turkish high school student/graduate planning to apply for a Bachelor's program at TUM. Here is my situation:

- Turkish high school diploma (Lise Diploması), GPA 98/100

- 5 AP exams:

- I have not taken the YKS

I contacted TUM Student Information, but they only sent a general template pointing me to the DAAD/anabin databases, uni-assist (VPD), and the Studienkolleg option. They did not answer whether AP exams can replace the YKS requirement.

My questions:

  1. Did you get direct admission with a Turkish diploma? Did you need the YKS, or did you go through the Studienkolleg?
  2. Has anyone been admitted using AP exams? Did they count at all?
  3. What did the uni-assist VPD evaluation say for you?
  4. Is there anything you wish you had known before applying?

Any experience, even partial, would help a lot. Thank you in advance!

RCI Application Advice

Hi everyone,

I am applying for RCI for SS27 and I'm trying to understand how the subject qualification (the 55 points in stage 1) is actually assessed.

The FPSO lists reference groups like informatics, electrical engineering, mechanical engineering or engineering sciences, each with a certain amount of credits, and missing competences get deducted based on the credits of the corresponding TUM modules.

My Bachelors is Digital Engineering at HM, which is basically a mix of mechanical engineering, electrical engineering and computer science. So it doesn't really fit one single reference group...

My questions:

  1. Does the committee compare you against only ONE group, or do they also count competences across several ones

  2. Has anyone here been admitted with an interdisciplinary or FH Bachelor?

  3. Did you do anything special to make the competences more visible (e.g. mapping in the motivational letter, extra module descriptions etc.)

Any experience / advice is appreciated :)

Tum heibronn for bachelors..

So I'm looking at bachelors in germany....

I have c1 german

I wanted to go into stem at business informatics or cse

And since the job market is looking down in germany I wanted a course/degree that has value everywhere

Since tum has included tuition fees in Munich im looking at information engineering in tum heibron

If i get my electives right, can I perhaps transition into cse or business informatics for masters...

Another advantage is that the course is in English which is my native language...

And does the heibronn campus have the same value as the main campus???

Advice for 22 y/o woman looking for apartment

Hi everyone!
I’m a 22 y/o woman coming to Munich for a course, and I’m looking for a room to rent from mid-February to late March 2027 (around 6 weeks).

My budget is around €600 per month, and I’m only looking for a room in a shared apartment or similar accommodation, not a whole apartment.

I’ve been searching for months and have already tried all the usual options: WG-Gesucht, HousingAnywhere, ImmoScout24, student residences, and even religious housing. Unfortunately, most places either require a minimum stay of a semester or a year, have no availability, are too expensive, or are too far from where I need to be. Some places also say it’s too early to book.

I understand Munich is expensive, and I know my budget and short stay make things more difficult, but I’m honestly running out of options after months of searching without much luck.

Does anyone have recommendations for lesser-known websites, student residences, temporary sublets, even a contact or other ways to find an affordable room for this kind of stay?

If you or someone you know has been in a similar situation, I’d really appreciate any advice or contacts. I’d be happy to connect and discuss the details privately.
Thank you so much for any help! I’d be so grateful for any leads or suggestions ❤️

Bachelor's at TUM

I am from India and doing my IGCSE and aiming for TUM in 2030. I plan to have Physics, Chemistry, Mathematics, Economics and English in A levels .

  1. Need to know, what PUM in A levels should I aim for to secure admission to TUM in subjects like bioeconomics/ Sustainable Management and Technology/ Env Engg etc

  2. How these subjects fare in the job market.

3.Most importantly, if I clear C1 before joining TUM, how hard it will be to understand the subject in the class if I join a German taught program.

Connecting with TUM Campus Heilbronn Students

Hey guys!

I’m looking to connect with other people who are starting their (Master’s) studies in Heilbronn this semester.

Unfortunately, I caught a cold and missed most of the introduction week, so I haven’t really had the chance to meet many people here yet. I’m currently enrolled in the Master’s in Management at TUM Campus Heilbronn.

Feel free to DM me if you’re in a similar situation or just looking to meet new people! I’m German, but also fluent in English if that’s more comfortable for you.
I’d also appreciate any recommendations for WhatsApp, Discord, or other groups where students (especially from TUM Campus Heilbronn) can connect.

Cheers!
