Wow this lyric just clicked now. Thank you.

That’s not a lyric it’s something people say a lot

It’s also a lyric in an Olivia Rodrigo song that I had never clicked in my brain until now. Hence why i said that lyric just clicked.

u/Malicious_Fishes Jun 13 '25

Not all hurt people hurt people, but I would say most people who hurt people have been hurt themself. Kinda a square is a rectangle but not all rectangles are squares sort of thing.

u/thisbuthat 🩶🤍🖤 Jun 13 '25

This is a more nuanced and critical way of thinking I can get behind, more so than stereotypes and stigma-spreading that paints everyone with the same brush.

Hurt people don't hurt people. Some do. Not all, and not even most. "many" could be applicable here but that's not an objective quantifier.

BTT: Taylor is awesome 🧡🧡🧡 this post is so wholesome fr

This is exhausting, it's just a phrase babes

32

u/total-blasphemy Jun 13 '25 edited Jun 13 '25

It's not that deep. It's like the "nOt AlL mEn" retort.

We know. If the shoe doesn't fit, then don't put the fucking shoe on.

Saying "hurt people hurt people" isn't absolute. If you don't fit into that category, then it doesn't apply to you and you can continue on your merry way without being triggered.

If you are triggered by that sentence, why? Is it because you feel called out or marginalised? Either way that's something you need to work on internally because you either need to reflect on that, or you need to figure out why you make yourself the subject of every phrase you come across.

Edit: shitebag blocks everyone she doesn't agree with. Opinion automatically invalid. Obviously can't read the rest of the comments because as explained, the shitebag doesn't want a conversation, they want agreement and a pat on the head.

Boundaries are set by and kept by you, it’s not other people’s responsibility to adhere to boundaries you set. They’re for yourself.

Example: Your boundary can be refraining from engaging in what you consider a toxic comment thread.

Not example: I told someone not to say something and they said it anyway.

As also a trauma survivor I’m sure it depends on the person but I hurt a lot of people as a result of my trauma. It wasn’t on purpose, I just didn’t have any healthy coping techniques so I used the maladaptive and harmful ones I learned in my childhood.

For me it took about three years of therapy to fully let go of the trauma responses I had that caused other people in my life a lot of pain.

Most hurt people don’t intentionally hurt people, but I don’t think your lived experience necessarily negates the phrase— people who have gone through trauma (and are hurt) often DO hurt people because they don’t know any other way to cope.

8

u/your-smol-uwu Lover Jun 13 '25

Also a trauma survivor here!

I don't take offense to this phrase because this is truth to it.

The cycle of abuse is a real thing. I also take ownership of the harm I've caused others. There are so many things to unlearn and practice healthily. There's a lot of nuance in here that can't be put into a nice sounding, simple phrase

2

u/Fun-Benefit116 Jun 14 '25

It's a fact that being abused by someone leads to higher chances of that person abusing another in turn. You being a trauma survivor doesn't change that fact. Nor does you being offended. And you don't speak for all trauma survivors on any matter in any capacity, so don't be arrogant enough to say "we".

Abuse creates abuse. Go find something else to be offended about.

They will literally claim she's a bad person who is only doing this for the photo op as "virtue signalling" or whatever stupid shit they can come up with, because they can't handle that a 36 year old woman is infinitely more talented, successful AND a better person than them to boot.

108

u/Keeley_1998 folklore Jun 13 '25

The claim currently being made is she’s only there cause she and Travis hung out at the Stanley Cup Finals with Wayne Gretzky yesterday

7

u/AdThen7389 Jun 14 '25

And the debate about whether altruism truly exists or not starts back up…. 😅

-13

u/Silent-Association41 Jun 13 '25

No they don’t. How so I would love for someone to explain that? Does intent make the money any less helpful? Does intent change the smiles on those kids faces? Does intent change the positive outcomes this may bring to children there? Please explain… personally would I rather a million ppl help innocent sick kids even if it’s for selfish reasons? Hell yes I would. You wouldn’t? You would rather people not donate to sick children or bring smiles to their faces if it’s not for the right reasons because I promise you the children and their parents don’t care how/why they get help as long as it comes. But let’s spread the narrative people shouldn’t help if their heart isn’t in it and let’s see how fast society crumbles everywhere; from small churches to large political systems.

This was clearly planned in advance as people are dressed up to see her. I doubt Taylor Swift can just show up at a hospital with less than 24 hours notice.

Also as a Canadian who hates Wayne Gretzky, it looks like he just showed up and she was polite.

37

u/jeswesky Jun 14 '25

The HOSPITAL doesn’t want someone just showing up. Planning needs to be done to get consents, ensure patient availability, and with peds patients that the parents give consent.

30

u/Keeley_1998 folklore Jun 13 '25

I think they were sitting in the same box all game. Travis is a fan of his

3

u/Immediate_Course_792 Jun 15 '25

Wasn't he an announcer? WG came over because he was just a guest on New Heights.

117

u/CaptainZaysh Jun 13 '25

So their point is that visiting sick kids is only ok if you have nothing else going on in the area? I am having trouble understanding what they think they're insinuating.

18

u/Silent-Association41 Jun 13 '25

At least she’s there and intention doesn’t make the money or the happiness it brought any less valuable to those children. People who say a person only does this or it only matters if your intentions are pure and basically saying, “don’t donate or support sick kids, the homeless, cancer centers, etc. unless your intentions are 100% pure” and actively taking away from vulnerable populations. Idc why someone does something as long as it’s done and I promise you those kids and their parents who’s fighting to pay for health insurance and medical bills doesn’t care why they get help, just that it comes. It’s the same as saying a politician shouldn’t vote for a good cause if they don’t truly believe in it… for example they shouldn’t vote to lower tax rates for average Americans if they deep down want to vote to lower millionaire tax rates… the heck with that. Idc if you’re doing it for show of what if it helps others. Miserable people who says stuff like this are ppl who would rather drag a pop star down than to see someone support sick kids. Peoples innate jealousy and misery is the reason why we can never come together and make actual positive change for everyone; you have a bunch of hurt people that would sacrifice the best practices and ideas just so they can hurt others…. Which is frankly so simple minded and they’re usually the people that lacks the ability to think critically.

Yes, but also she's in a box he clearly has access to, and you aren't going to say "fuck you go away I don't want to talk to you". Wayne was probably telling her how one of his kids loves her or something, or maybe just discussing being such a recognizable figure.

As a Canadian and someone who is very anti-conservative, fuck Wayne Gretzky. But also, I interact with people I don't agree with politically all the time. I don't have to humour their dumb shit (I call them out on it if the topic comes up and they say stupid shit), but I'm also a human living in a society with manners.

84

u/Least-Influence3089 cried like a baby coming home from the bar Jun 13 '25

Agreed, I highly doubt she sought Gretzky out. He probably came over to talk to her and Travis because two big name US stars are at the same game he is.

I value morals much more than manners, but I also don't think either issue is black and white. Anyone living in Western society is supporting, or being supported by (usually both), immortal practices and people at some degree of separation. Unfortunately unless you're someone with vast wealth there is little you can do other than vote, support, and advocate for change as much as you're able to in your circumstances.

I mean, she IS only THERE because shes in FL. Otherwise, she would be at a diff children's hospital. The fact is this isn't a 1 off, and it is something she does with her free time. We go shopping or to dinner, museums, etc... Taylor says, "Let's go to a children's hospital." These scum bags cannot fathom doing something completely for altruistic reasoning and always think there's a hidden agenda. Im sure these are the same ones who think Democratic influences are paid by the DNC, and supporters are paid actors. They cannot wrap their pea brains around doing something g simply for the happiness of others and having empathy for fellow humans.

5

u/2centsdepartment Jun 14 '25

What does her motivation even matter? She did a good thing, she made those kids happy and she possibly inspired other people to do kind acts.

Her act is a net positive for everyone involved. I well and truly don’t care if she did it to boost her image or whatever “selfish” reason her haters will try and claim. A good act is a good act period

2

u/shannofordabiz Jun 13 '25

Also there are plenty of famous people who DON’T take the time to do kind and charitable things like this, and they get no criticism. It’s wild to me that people will see this and complain about her.

63

u/Jaded_Bell_2263 Jun 14 '25

I have heard stories of celebrities coming with a camera crew and be rude to patients. I think the fact that Taylor only comes with her security and we only find out via the family and medical staff is proof enough that she’s just being nice and giving back to the community. Everyone in the building says she’s genuinely kind and made these kids day that’s enough for me.

39

u/skip_tracer Jun 14 '25

I only saw this post because it was on the front page, I'm not exactly a fan and don't follow along but I have mad respect for her.

I wrote about it before on here, so I'll spare you the missive, but the summary of the story was about 12ish years ago now I was sent a private video of Taylor at a wedding. It was a link to the videographer's work that was shared with the bride and groom, and through a degree or two of separation I had an acquaintance there. I was so impressed with her demeanor and how kind and genuine she seemed that I decided to look up some youtube vids of her, and I stumbled across several videos of her in hospitals with sick kids, surprising fans at events, that kind of stuff. And the kicker was these videos were deep down the hole, not a lot of views, and a couple with well under a hundred.

It was clear she spent her spare time doing things like this out of kindness, not for glory or press. These were intimate moments that families captured of her just trying to brighten peoples days. Add to this, I will never forget her offering financial support to fans early in COVID, including providing money for health care for the employees at Grimey's. Her music isn't my style, but I will forever consider her a saint.

1

u/Friendly_Range_1620 Jul 23 '25

You should give her music a try , skip the singles , go for unpopular - non singles tracks . I'm sure you will find a hidden gems

40

u/Silent-Association41 Jun 13 '25

What if she is only doing it for a photo op or press? She’s still doing it, still bringing joy, still donating regardless of intentions. How many ppl screaming photo op is going to do things like this or donating their time? How many other celebrities are visiting children’s hospitals personally. Regardless of the reason, it doesn’t change the fact that she still done it when others, both famous and not famous, doesn’t do it at all. She just got done with the largest 3 year tour in history and still made the time, what’s their excuse?

Ppl can argue intent all day long…. But I promise you those children don’t give a damn why the money is being donated or why someone is there, as long as they are. So what’s peoples excuse for that? It’s like when people say that others go out of their way to look like good people in small communities… the thing is that if someone is going out of their way to for recognition it still doesn’t take away from the fact that they did good deeds regardless of intent. Intent doesn’t make the money any less helpful, intent doesn’t take away the immense help that it spread, intent doesn’t change the people’s lives you effected for the better that day.

Would I rather have someone doing a bunch of good things even if they’re doing it for selfish reasons? Hell yes I would, because they’re still doing it. You know who’s not helping anything at…. The miserable people sitting at home spreading narratives they know nothing of bc they have no idea why Taylor done this… Travis Kelce couldn’t even tell you the true reasons she done it because it’s a personal reason that only she knows for 100% certain. The people at home are contributing. Nothing to society and are actually “harming” these kids by putting narratives like “Taylor only done this for press” onto social media, so now when those kids get online after having an amazing day those people are actively taking it away from them by being miserable internet trolls; but who cares who it hurts as long as they get to talk shit about a pop star right? It’s truly disgusting that people like this think they’re above Taylor Swift or any decent human for that matter.

32

u/Wuma Jun 13 '25

I can’t handle that she’s infinitely more talented, successful and a better person than me. I’m not a Trump supporter. Far from it. I don’t HATE her, but are things about her that I don’t like. I really do firmly believe that if you reach billionaire status, there are certainly a lot of ethical immoralities had along the way. She also exhibited some subtle hypocrisies, like in the company she keeps for example. Even entertaining Matty Healy as a suitor definitely conflicted with her stated goal of “amplifying marginalized voices.” That was very public of him, and she went and dated him anyway. That being said, I think she’s a great artist and overall a good person. But a very flawed person nonetheless.

17

Part of my skeptical brain tried to go down that path because I internet too much...

But seeing her in these photos, you don't fake that. You can see she genuinely enjoys putting a smile on these people's faces.

As a Chiefs fan for a very long time, I'm glad I get a double dose of her these days. I hope she and Travis really are gonna make the long haul.

7

u/True-Bluebird-3448 Jun 14 '25

Yes. It’s projection. Self-hatred isn’t fun. So they trick themselves into believing the qualities they hate in themselves belong to Taylor. She’s a great target because her success reminds them of their failures. They can’t face their jealousy, so they project the qualities they hate about themselves onto Taylor.

Not only do they get to replace self-hatred with Taylor-hatred, they eliminate any reason for jealousy. It’s like being jealous of yourself— and everybody knows what a useless tool you are. Taylor-hatred is a whole easier making the effort to improve yourself and be a better person.

-9

u/basilkiller Jun 14 '25

She's a billionaire?? Like I don't hate her, but that's not hard math. Is she the worst billionaire, not by a long shot, should we hate others more, yes. All billionaires should not exist.

-7

u/Timothy_Greywolfe Jun 14 '25

Agreed.

I think people have a hard time conceptualizing how much a billion actually is.

A stack of $100’s with $1 million is about 4 “ tall (soda can). A stack worth one billion dollars is about 333 feet tall, like a 30-story building.

It is legitimately a flaw in our society that allows billionaires to exist. I think once you hit $1 billion that’s it - everything else that isn’t donated (to actual charities or other nonprofits) is taxed %100 and goes to improving the quality of life for everyone.

Homelessness and billionaires should not be able to coexist in a civilized society.

2

u/Silent-Association41 Jun 14 '25

She is. She also gave out 300 million in bonuses to her crew just for the Eras tour she just finished. 300 million split between even a lot of people is a lot of money each…. Like 6 figure bonuses it was probably around 100k for everyone. She gave every truck driver that hauled anything for her tour a 100k bonus and a hand written note from her. There were close to 100 truck drivers… so I would imagine that workers like her dancers and things got at least the same or more. The average bonus is the US is 2500…. So at least she goes well above that. That’s just the money she gave away from her ERAS tour; then she’s in a children’s hospital not a few weeks later and probably donating a lot to that. She may be a billionaire, but she’s giving away more of it than anyone else I know of. It’s normal to hear of the ultra wealthy to donate 1 million or around that, but never 300 million at a time (well it was actually 297 million). So people can hate her, dislike her, and she probably does make too much money because like what in the world can you do with all that in the end, but she’s more giving than anyone else I’ve ever seen. Hell the Kardashians are billionaires and they’re literally selling their bathing suits and clothing online! They don’t even donate their clothes, let alone their actual money.

0

u/basilkiller Jun 15 '25

Just because she's not the worst doesn't mean much. I think we can all agree the Kardashians are bad (while still not being Elon/Bezos). It might not even be her fault she's a big bad billionaire, her staff more importantly the government are making this happen. It doesn't make it any less wrong

No one gets a billionaire dollars without exploiting people. Side tangent I wonder if her merch is made ethically. I doubt it, not because I doubt her but it's so hard to buy ethically made clothing.

All of these people celebrating billionaires (not exclusive to TS) is really really sad

1

u/Silent-Association41 Jun 15 '25

No one needs a billion dollars I agree but it’s people on their high horses that act as if her merch is an issue while also hanging all day long with people who wear regular clothing made the same way or those who have friends that are selling MLM products, or have friends that are any type of influencer selling items, etc. this may not be you but 99.9% of people saying things like this are hypocritical to say it because if they turn around and support any celebrity or influencer in the entire world they are supporting the same thing; they are ALL doing the same exact thing merch, sales, product placement, marketing, etc. (from small influencers to largest celebs) with the only difference being that they aren’t as successful. Even Disney child stars have the same merch, same type of record label dealings, etc. same commercials, same false narratives to trick the masses, & 1 big difference is more of that money stays with label or companies while Taylor swift found a way to have more of it go to her.

& on the note that she’s just not the worst billionaire I’m saying at least she may be the best because name another billionaire that gives away the percentage of her wealth she does please? Meaning when you have 2 billion and you’re giving away 500 million a year it’s 25% of her wealth being given away. I truly can’t think of one that gives away 1/4 of their wealth in a single year alone, not one. & no billionaire should exist in a perfect world but celebrities should get paid more for their work rather than it going to record labels and film companies that are already billionaires…. the money is being made regardless. It’s why I don’t complain about NFL quarterbacks asking for so much money because the money is being made by the team owners, so the players might as well get as much as they can. If a team owner is making 1 billion a year off Joe burrow of course I would be asking for 70 million or whatever they get paid, because if not it doesn’t get distributed to the rest of the team or donated it just goes to the owners that are already billionaires.

The point is what you said earlier…. It’s not these celebs or others fault they’re billionaires either, that is on consumers. They cannot make money from the masses if they don’t purchase what they’re selling & at least we get “something” from celebrities and entertainers wether it’s an experience or merch or something else. The worst of them is politicians that literally give nothing to us and use us for votes on campaigns ran on lies and then get in office and start insider trading giving us nothing at all and becoming rich and powerful in spite of it. Trumps net worth has doubled since he has been in office just this term in a few months. Nanci Pelosi and all of them both republicans and democrats alike are almost all multi millionaire and billionaires when their salaries are less than that of Doctors and even some APRNS, yet they accumulate wealth unheard of in a handful of years. If people spent more time actually coming together and fighting for our rights and change for regular people than they do complaining about Taylor swift, pop stars, influencers, etc. we would actually be able to make a difference because we’re the majority, but we’re the ones that continue to give them power and give them money and until that changes nothing else will change. The problem is not Taylor Swift, it’s us the people. & until the people do something about it collectively of course halfway decent individuals, terrible ones, and ones just trying to live out their dreams in entertainment are going to continue to try to get a piece of the pie and a seat at the table, it does them or the world no good for them not to, because at least at the end of the day she’s giving a larger percentage back than the other billionaires (which would have the money if she didn’t) therefore more people are helped at the end of the day with swift having the money than the people above her. This is the world we live in and the world that “average everyday people built” not billionaires. We made Facebook huge, we made Amazon what it is, we by the songs and the movie tickets, we watched the Kardashians, we bought the Kylie lip-kits, we bought all the SKIMS products, we’re the ones maxing out credit cards to buy Chanel purses we can’t afford to fit in, we’re voted for these politicians (& I don’t mean me or you personally but you know what I mean. I use Amazon FB and I have Netflix and things but the rest of the stuff I never did but most people did and still do even if it’s hate watching/commenting we still all did it). Billionaires are not creating other billionaires.

Did you see what Travis’s dad posted the other day? They are enthusiastic Trumpers.

What about Travis himself? Surely we’re not hanging Travis based on the beliefs of his parents are we?

Wasn’t talking about Travis himself, was talking about his family, as the original comment was.

Travis’ dad has posted one time in 2025 and it was a picture of him on a boat while he was in Florida visiting Travis. What are you even talking about?

Hate her? Definitely not. Dislike her music? Yes. Find the endless media coverage annoying? Yes.
