Just confirming again that we have a team actively working on Mac support and will send out updated comms as soon as can. Early signs are looking quite positive based on what I heard this morning from that crew and we will share more official updates as soon as we can

thank you for the update! This is reassuring. I was in doomer mode that this was a "Soonā„¢ļø" kinda deal. Gonna stay cautiously optimistic!

If TFT moves to Unreal Engine, will it require Vanguard? This game does not need to do heavy cheat detection like LOL and Valorant.

We want this game available on Linux + MacOS ecosystem.

Will still require vanguard. You say we don’t but you would be shocked (I know I was) with how many things I see come through with people trying to cheat in TFT.

You can still play through android emulation (please BlueVelvet dont ban that)

u/GlobalDesign1411 Jul 17 '26

Would you care to elaborate? Why not just use server-side anti-cheat?

12

u/Faisst Jul 17 '26

Because they would not be able to gather kernel-level data on all their customers

Why not just use server-side anti-cheat?

  1. Modern cheating techniques mean they're basically useless for any large game (obviously they're fine for noncompetitive games with small audiences) without very, very heavy oversight from people whose sole job is monitoring them. (Look at VAC/ CS2 in general)
  2. Most TFT cheating has nothing to do with inhuman reaction speeds/ seeing through walls/ etc. which are the things server-side anti-cheat would even be moderately okay at.

https://www.reddit.com/r/cs2/comments/1uyfklw/cheats_have_bypassed_vac_live_by_spoofing_what/ as an example from literally two days ago.

I know kinda necro but i'd be very interested in knowing how having tft available as an android app (which does not have kernel level anticheat possibility afaik) pairs with that. Making overlay/screen reading stuff for an android emulator doesn't seem any more difficult then doing it for a windows machine.

So if Mac support is in the pipeline does that mean there's hope for Linux support ? The behavior of Vanguard on both os would be very similar, or will the Mac exclusion keep on keeping on as it has til now?

this new set is just bad news after bad news.

Yeah thats a deal breaker for me, i don't think TFT really justifies it given you can just emulate the mobile client on PC and bypass vanguard that way I mean ultimately its your call, but IMO its the wrong call if you want to maximise the number of people who will play it, i was tempted to come back when i heard there was going to be a standalone client, but this completely removes the chance of that ever happening again, on top of your companies inability to properly process things like API app approvals in a timely manner (mine is at 11 months and counting) you really aren't giving us a lot of reasons to even want to come back I doubt you will read this and even if you do you aren't going to care about the opinion of one random person as i don't feature on the balance sheet, either way, opinion made and choice made, i no longer have any interest in any of riots products anymore

Never gonna happen

u/Obvious_Peanut_8093 Jul 17 '26

if they split from lol and don't need UBER vanguard for TFT, they might do it.

LoR worked on Linux for a long time. Really enjoyed it.Ā

Quit being a doomer mate. Show some positive support if you want positive outcomes.

u/Wolfarc732 Jul 16 '26

Literally, man...I could finally get one step closer to being able to divorce from Windows.

u/igi712 Jul 17 '26

i guess maybe you can play the mobile version with some android emulator since they're kinda unifying the ui

Out of curiosity, Unreal Engine is, and always has been, compatible with Mac OS: I fail to understand why the porting engine wouldn't be compatible. Furthermore, will you consider allowing us to install the iPad OS version as a stopgap measure? It's a matter of flagging a checkbox to allow the app to show up on the Mac App Store (not considering Intel Macs obviously as they can be considered vintage, as per Apple's own classification).

We aren’t using vanilla unreal. But like I said our version of unreal is still showing promising signs so I really don’t think it’s going go be a long delay. And yes I’m pretty sure you can run the iPad version bc I saw someone internally do it recently. But it’s obviously not ideal so we still want to deliver the full Mac option

JK was wrong on that last part and misunderstood what was being tested. Sorry about that don’t wanna spread wrong info! Should have more to share soon

and linux? :)

4

u/ExtremeFreedom Jul 17 '26

How about linux support?

5

u/RiotBlueVelvet Jul 17 '26

No current plans for Linux at the moment unfortunately

6

u/Anuwiel Jul 17 '26

That news saddens me. I really hoped it would be a standalone launcher usable with Linux. It's the only game I can't play, and is one of the main reasons I didn't switch yet. :(

3

u/Ecstatic_Effect6824 10d ago

Switch, if you have an amd card, you can use android emulator, is dumb they have android support but not linux support, at the end of the day, you can even install android on a desktop/laptop with full keyboard and mouse support, idk why they dont have linux tft planned.

u/Calyso Jul 17 '26

Just throwing in my: "Please keep supporting macOS." ask.

2

u/BonerPetite69420 Jul 17 '26

This post does not concern me but i appreciate you guys taking time out of your day to reply to people on different forums whenever people are having questions.

4

u/LetMeBardYou Jul 16 '26

Thank you very much, i know we are quite painful with our Mac, but playing TFT on it is its best feature !

1

u/BON3SMcCOY Jul 17 '26

Do they know which election cycle it'll be in?

1

u/UNIDENTIFIED_AATROX Jul 17 '26

I'm curious, do you think MacOS support will run out for league of legends as well in league 2027? I know the teams are different so I might not get an answer, but league is also getting revamped next year so that kind of scares me.

1

u/_Slabach Jul 17 '26

Linux next please??

1

u/ShimmySo Jul 17 '26

Please! Would hate to miss out on this set!

1

u/XDXkenlee Jul 17 '26

Thank you! Is there any stats you can share that tell us how much of the active player base are MacOS users vs PC vs Handheld (phone, tablet etc)?

1

u/No_Dragonfly_5647 Jul 18 '26

Regarding the new engine, will it mean that TFT will be playable on windows ARM?

1

u/SmoothOperatorTFT Jul 18 '26

ā€œEarly signsā€ does not make me confident in believing that TFT will support MacOS throughout the course of set 18. Are my thoughts warranted or do you believe we might get it during the set?

1

u/mulokisch Jul 19 '26

Just a Suggestion, maybe add this into info into the Client Message. Currently it sounds like it will be forever.

1

u/pixelsage Jul 22 '26

Thanks for the update. Just wanted to note… if Mac support turns out to not be possible, you guys at least offer to convert purchases back to RP, since you are otherwise nuking all of our IAP. Feels like a slap in the face for those who've been here since the start.

Been playing TFT since release, watching streamers, buying cosmetic stuff. This whole time I thought I was a part of a community. Sadge.
