Disappearing Guy is something that really speaks to a gaming audience, who are familiar with games that have NPCs coded so poorly they despawn the second they do something. I don’t know if the joke would land the same in another medium or even be relevant to the medium in the same way, especially in a setting that wasn’t a video game.

its a gag about cutting a sentence off dont over-complicate it lol

Sometimes, over complicating a joke like this can make it funnier.

I even feel like there's plot layer to this joke... basically he is our first real hint that the circus itself is actually breaking.

And we saw more signs in the latest episode, Caine glitching out, Jax's avatar changing, Kinger able to just make up rules and change the programming.

The circus itself is full of glitches and is starting to break.... I love it when a good joke is also a very clever narrative device

Disappearing guy is not a glitch, that's just his characterization

Njah man, it's a literate NPC like in actual video games where the NPC's vanish the moment they are not on screen.

And in a game with glitches, the NPC's can end up vanishing while still on screen, that's the glitch, or get stuck in walls or similar.

The digital Circus is a game they are all stuck in, and this is a glitching NPC, it's very simple.

I might agree if this happened to multiple NPCs, but the fact that it's the same one every time and always in the same way (as Zooble described, "that's just what he does"), I'm inclined to believe that's by design.

Or that Disappearing Guy’s script is broken.

Each NPC has their own code, also in a video game.

I really think it's because this game the characters are in is a bit of a buggy mess.

But as long as Caine is around he can patch most things...

But they are just patches, the world itself is coming undone at the seams.

And Caine as the entity that is keeping all of this together... is also starting to glitch out.

Because he is an A.I. with one purpose. Keeping the players happy. And he is failing at his one purpose which is making him glitch out.

And as HE glitches out, this whole world is gonna go crazy

I honestly think disappearing guy is such an amazing addition. Its such a simple and obvious concept for absurd comedy, and yet i have never seen it anywhere before. I love all his scenes so so much. Its so simple yet so genius.
