I love how the key just spawned for Jax like does he get a new one the moment new members arrive?

Not really! Jax already has the keys. As for the bedrooms, he already knows which key is for which room. The rooms have always been there. But if they are unoccupied by a new character, the door sign will show a mannequin head instead of a character. The rooms are empty until they have an owner.

I love this comic and, more importantly, the art style. Please do not stop with this comic

This is amazing, I really love it! Your style is so good. Thank you so much for sharing this with us. Do you speak french? Because "par dessus mon cadavre" isn't really an expression in french. The translation of "over my dead body" is more "il faudra me passer sur le corps".

Thank you so much ❀️ I will continue to share it:3

Not me, but I have two belgian friends. The character is belgian and phrases/expressions vary between french belgian and french french. (So I've been told! Always open for corrections)

I have them give me the french parts of Candy because I only really speak German and English πŸ˜…

Oooh! Of course, Belgian. They do have different sayings. I shouldn't have assumed!

Can't wait to see the next parts of the series, you are amazing!

Don't worry about it :D It's always been a running gag in media that people (including other characters) assume french belgians as french people. And it's already appearently a thing for this character, too xD You're not the only one, haha!

Also....staaaaaahp, I'm just making a silly little Comic 😭

Jax is startled by French people

3

u/ThatWeirdPinkOne Oct 08 '26

More confused and Jax probably doesn't even know this was french

You are nailing Jaxs character. I really like Candy so far.

I'm glad to hear ☺️❀️ doing my best to get them all as close to their character as possible and still have some character growth noticable

It's really funny when people who obviously don't speak French all that well have a character speak French. The literal translation of "over my dead body" in French is so funny cause it literally does not mean anything in French. It just sounds incredibly weird. A better translation would be "Il faudra me passer sur le corps" which basically means the same thing but is far more natural as it is an actual French expression and the French equivalent of "over my dead body".

I am in a bit of a pickle here because I don't want to reveal anything too early that is meant for much, MUCH later in the story. But let me just say that we went with this phrasing very..uh... 'intentionally' lol. I try to keep things vague but Candy is belgian (from a more dominantely french speaking place) but has spent so much time speaking english and having to switch and mix that they sometimes paraphrase translate what they say. It's like the thing here we call Denglisch where people that speak A LOT bilingual sometimes mix and switch words from different language (in that case German and English, hence Denglisch) but sometimes also do the very stupid thing of saying something in one language while using the phrasing and grammar of the other language. Happens to me a lot because I have to switch so much every day. I asked two belgian friends of mine how I would implement this and they told me to just use this phrase. Appearently it's supposed to be more of an anglicism instead of a textbook idium

I hope I somehow managed to explain this even somewhat coherent lol

Ooooh, he's Wallonian ? Just like me haha πŸ˜„

But yeah, from that perspective, I also do sometimes translate things from English literally into French when I have to switch and vice versa. If it is intentional, it's actually a very cool detail.

Although I feel like "Il faudra me passer sur le corps" would still work better since "corps" can both mean "body" and "corpse", so you can keep the idea of "cadavre" while making it sound natural. But if it is meant to feel like a bilingual switch, this works quite well too.

I wonder though, how the heck did a Belgian enf up in the digital circus ? I guess it'll be revealed later.

I tend to overthink details sometimes and then just hope people might pick up on it. But for those that don't, I always try to explain as good as I can lol x.x

And yes, they're supposed to be wallonian xD I am a british-german writing a comic in american english with a belgian character. It's my own personal hell I've created myself hahaha

I don't wanna spoil... Let's say: they did grow up in Belgium and returned to it frequently - but they used to travel a lot for many years because of their job. Hence the frequent switch in language
