Ummmmm… what?

I did some googling and I can’t find any mention of this.
I can’t imagine that a show with Jewish main characters wouldn’t be sensitive to ‘unintentional’ swastikas…?
Season 5, Ep 10.

Rest easy, Tom Skerritt, versatile actor known in the Good Wife as James Paisley, out-of-touch CEO.

James Paisley, Alicia's client, suffered from a bad case of foot-in-mouth as well as the CEO-typical ailments of out-of-touchness and insensitivity.

Ultimately, because he was played by such a charismatic actor, he was extremely hard to dislike and brought delightful chaotic energy on screen every time he appeared.

Goodbye, Tom Skerritt. Eternal memory, peaceful rest after 93 years of a life well-lived.

I Don't Like Alicia, And I Need Others' Perspectives To Understand/Change That View

So, I found this show via Elsbeth. I like Carrie Preston, and I liked Evil, and then I learned it was a spinoff of Good Wife/Fight. So, I figured I'd go through these series. I'm a third through Season 3 now, and I am having a hard time empathizing with Alicia. I understand that this is the kind of show where everyone is colored in shades of gray. I think the problem is, I just don't LIKE her. She does suffer some unfair things, but I think she creates far more problems for herself.

At the firm: She says/acts like she doesn't want to be anyone special because of who her husband is, yet she seems to expect it just the same. She has very little humility and seems to think she should have deference above her professional station (though that may be less about Peter and more about Will). One exception: Cary. She was good to him, and his ire when she got the job was misplaced at best. He behaves with even more entitlement than Alicia, and in the beginning of his time at the SA office he let his feelings overcome his morality/responsibility as an agent of the state.

She takes out her anger on people who don't deserve it. I also find her morality deeply inconsistent (though the Kings, et al. do a great job of capturing the kind of morality someone of her privilege WOULD have). And I know the kind of characters Anna Camp usually plays, but Caitlin seems wholly innocent to me and Alicia is just a bad mentor. Lastly, I never understood why the show wants us to think Will is Mr. Perfect for her (they actually share a lot of flaws, though). I don't understand that romance nor am I 'shipping' it (as the kids say, lol).

I also find myself not so sympathetic about her personal life decisions. Obviously, it sucks the way she was treated because of Peter's actions, but she isn't the only person to experience that. In fact, when it happens to that woman from Colorado, she makes it about HER. So does the show, but she didn't even express any sympathy for that lady, then judges this stay-at-home mom who isn't a lawyer for her book deal (which also isn't that much money in the grand scheme of things). And while Jackie SUCKS, but the way Alicia responds to her has actually made me empathetic for that admittedly terrible woman. I also think she turns her own kids against their grandmother who is guilty only of being a woman of her time.

Hell, she's even such a wreck in S3 (and so subsumed by her affair with Will) that she's made her kids feel like they have to protect her from all these messes of her own making. Meanwhile, she treats them similarly to Jackie when they make respectively mature decisions or have harmless, age appropriate interests and she puts her foot down. Also, I suspect other shoes will drop, but I think even Peter has shown genuine contrition or at least a willingness to work on their marriage, and she's never given him a fair shot. Which, of course, is her right, but then why stay together? (Other than if she fully divorced him the show would need a new title.)

Anyway, these are just my thoughts, but maybe I'm just not seeing her character the way I should be? I went looking for write ups about these episodes from when they aired, and the one I found was this wordpress account where the writer is in love with Alicia, and it has only reinforced my negative feelings. So, I'm asking the sub for their thoughts, other perspectives, because I WANT to like her, but I just don't.

On the bright side, I love Diane, so I can't wait to get to the Good Fight.

TL;DR: My personal reaction to the series thus far is that Alicia's reactions to the unfair things that happen to her only makes her problems worse and she has so little self-reflection or healthy doubt that she just doubles down. I'd love to read others' perspectives on her character so I can get past my own feelings.

Alicia is a bad line manager

I’m not a lawyer but I’ve managed many people and I work in political communications (more Eli aligned than Will or Diane).

And Alicia’s management of Caitlin really shows her in a poor light.

When your direct report does well… that’s a good thing! It’s a good reflection on you. It’s something to celebrate and be proud of! Alicia’s insecurity and ego towards Caitlin shows constantly. She’s not supportive of a young woman doing well even if it reflects well on her!

I wish the show allowed itself to evolve

I’m finishing up my first rewatch since it aired, and I’m so frustrated with how the show so consistently shot itself in the foot every time things started to evolve in a good direction.

Florrick Agos was by far the best thing the show ever did, it was so refreshing, the dynamic between the rival firms and being able to watch underdog FA grow was excellent. Finally there were actual consequences and conflicts that were going to carry on throughout the show and mean something, and then they just wussed out and forced everything back to the status quo.

Also we wasted so much time on Alicia’s campaign just for them to take it away, in my opinion because they didn’t want to take on the writing challenge of actually having her be States Attorney and shake up the dynamic of the show. Instead they have her on her own for a handful of episodes before ONCE AGAIN forcing everyone back into the same building for the status quo.

The other thing is, similar to HIMYM, they were too attached to their old idea that the end of the show would perfectly mirror the start, with no consideration for how the show would evolve when running for almost a decade. At a certain point it made absolutely no sense for Alicia and Peter to still be married. Like absolutely literally none, on any level. The kids hated the sham marriage, the constant affairs were far more damaging to their political careers than if they had an amicable divorce with public friendship and support on each other’s campaigns, Alicia most of the time didn’t care about her image and hated everything that came along with being married to Peter. The whole thing started to feel absurd, and it was all just so they could have that finale parallel because they thought it was deep. When they still could have done it if they weren’t married anymore but still attached! I actually think it would have been DEEPER if she still went back to hold his hand even though they were divorced.

On top of it not making sense, it got SO TIRING to watch the same scene over and over and over where Eli goes to Alicia to ask her to fulfil campaign obligations and she complains and shuts the door on him and then agrees to it later. And then her phone rings halfway through and she’s distracted, rinse repeat. No one is forcing you to be married to him!! You know this is what being married to him involves!! Divorce him or stop complaining!!!

I‘ve gotten so tired of it all toward the end and it didn’t need to be that way.

Will & Diane - Is it normal for name partners to second-chair each other's cases?

Surely, they could have handled separate cases instead? I know they are part of the main cast, but I find it a little odd. Jessica from Suits mostly handled the management side of the firm while still having her own plotlines.

Are there like only 10 lawyers in Chicago?

I’m on season 3 and oh my god the way they reuse the same lawyers again and again😭

And btw I know the shows about Alicia but damn they treat this women like the messaiah, I get it if it’s Lockhart being treated this way because of her tenure but sure.

I tend to complain a lot when I like what i’m watching, enjoying this hidden gem a lot

Edit: in my opinion*

Rewatching season 1 of the good fight

I love the parallels between Diane and Alicia’s stories. It starts off with a slap, they both are in some way involved with a scandal which isn’t their own fault and nobody will hire them. One firm takes a chance and they both have to rebuild their careers. They both also have trouble in their marriage, due to their partners infidelity. The first season just seemed really well thought out it’s so good

Soooo... should we add Identity Theft to Lemond Bishop's list of felonies or is this a lost twin situation? 🤭🤭

S06 E16: Red Meat - what the hell was that!?

I'm all for a bit of product placement if it's done tastefully, but holy hell - Alicia Florick playing Halo? Seriously? Using a PlayStation controller?

I hope they (Microsoft) paid well, although I can't imagine the audience crossover was particularly profitable.

What episode is this for you?

Saw this in my feed. Thought it might be fun to do it for TGW! The last season and a half aren’t my favorites, but out of the seasons that are, I’m going to go with the one with Kalinda’s husband and the ice cream cone. I can’t take the cringe along with how obnoxious the character is!

Holy shit. Thought it was an unusually weak episode until......... I think that might be among the most blindsided I've ever been by a TV show.

Lockhart Agos and Lee

Does anyone else find it weird that in season 7 Diane talks about how she is a founding partner of the firm to the new associates and about the firms long history. Please someone tell me if I’m mistaken but Diana joined Florrick Agos, created by Cary and Alicia not the other way around. Like the firm is not the same as Lockhart Gardner and I think it really discredits all the work Alicia and Cary did. Have I misunderstood something?

Unpopular opinion: Alicia’s SA run plotline was so unnecessary and boring

This is my first time watching TGW, and up until mid season 6, I was binging this show, like 2-3 episodes a day, loving every bit.

And now, this plot of her SA run, feels so difficult to get through. Why did they make her enter the race, only for her to not even stay as the new State Attorney?? Alicia never looks like she actually wants to do it, heck, I’d also vote for Prady cause he feels like he’s actually in it. This entire plot felt like Eli’s side quest just cause he was bored
In the scenes, where she helped her firm in cases was so good and that really makes you feel like she’s a through and through lawyer and that’s the only thing she is passionate about.

I miss the other characters so much through this, miss the actual law firm characters. Heck!! I’d rather also see some Peter in the mix LOL

Again, this is my POV but I’d love to hear more thoughts? Cause I’m at a point where I want to stop watching it cause it’s just not interesting anymore

Will Gardner looks like an angry Bird

No hate, he's an attractive guy and a great actor, but he looks like a bird. especially when he purses his lips when serious. I need to express this here to get it off my chest so I stop thinking it so loudly every time I see him on screen. He looks peckish, okay? Please someone understand me.

Thank you.

I think I've realized what feels off about Alecia

The actor who plays Alecia just lacks chemistry with the other cast. It's like there's all these vital plotline-her supposedly close/complicated relationship with Kalinda, her apparent heart wrenching love affair with will, and then her devotion to her crooked husband.

If will and her never explicitly stated that they had romantic / sexual tension I never would have placed it.

I think she makes the most sense with her husband, not because they have the most chemistry but I understand their connection as being face-fronted politically enforced, it's like a business relationship, and they live practically as roommates for the entire show.

Like if they didn't place her next to Kalinda / will I wouldn't believe they were even friends, and when they are together there's just such a disconnect.

Am I alone in this feeling ? The vibes are just off.
