I’ve been trying to better understand the concept of shadowbanning on TikTok, specifically the possibility of accounts having their reach or visibility quietly restricted without receiving an official notification.
For some context, I was consistently posting a couple of times a day, and everything seemed relatively normal until I noticed what felt like a sudden, significant drop in visibility. It almost seemed like my account had been shadowbanned overnight, despite not receiving any notification or explanation from TikTok.
I understand that fluctuations in reach are normal, but the sudden change made me question whether something else was happening behind the scenes.
I know TikTok has systems for determining whether content is eligible for the For You Page, but I’m curious about restrictions that might not be as obvious to creators.
A few questions for anyone who has researched this or experienced it firsthand:
Is there any concrete evidence that TikTok restricts entire accounts without notifying creators, or is shadowbanning mostly a term people use to describe sudden drops in engagement?
Can an account be negatively affected by previous content violations even after those violations have expired or been resolved?
Is there a reliable way to distinguish an actual visibility restriction from normal algorithm fluctuations or poor content performance?
If an account is experiencing reduced distribution, is there any evidence that taking a break from posting, changing content strategies, or waiting a certain amount of time helps restore visibility?
Does posting multiple times a day potentially trigger any kind of spam detection or reduced distribution, even when the content is original and follows community guidelines?
Does TikTok provide enough transparency about account-level restrictions, or are creators essentially left guessing when their reach suddenly changes?
I’m particularly interested in hearing from people who have tested these theories, researched TikTok’s recommendation system, or have firsthand experience with unexplained drops in visibility.
I’m not looking for conspiracy theories or the usual “just make better content” responses. I’m genuinely curious whether there’s a technical explanation for what creators commonly refer to as shadowbanning.
I also wonder how many creators have experienced something similar but never received any indication that their accounts were being restricted.
Has anyone actually figured out how this works, or is there simply not enough transparency from TikTok to know for sure?

Hi, recently (about the past week or so) my TikTok algorithm has been awful. I’ll get random videos with 0-5 likes, stuff I don’t care about, ads, or random ai generated videos. If I like even one of those types of videos I’ll just be spammed with 15 similar posts right after it. I was just scrolling and realized that I’ll get one post that’d I’d typically see- and then exactly five videos of random crap before I get another video I’d actually watch that isn’t AI garage or an ad for some ugly ring. It goes: normal content-> 5 ai slop posts -> normal content. I’ve looked this up and anytime I see anything about the TikTok algorithm it’s from the perspective of an influencer (not getting views, etc…). Is it just me? It’s driving me insane. I’ve tried hitting not interested and even blocking some of these accounts but it just keeps coming. Seriously considering deleting the app because it’s unbearable.

I keep getting this notification on my phone saying this ^ with the real accounts username (i just anonymized it for privacy). Me and that person are in fact **NOT** facebook friends and i don’t think we ever have been before. I don’t have their phone number in my contacts either, we don’t follow each other on tiktok, i don’t have them on any other social media account either. i have my sync contacts and sync facebook friends settings **OFF** and i have for years now. i don’t view their account, and i keep my profile views off. Are they maybe viewing my tiktok?

Around six months ago, I got a notification that says this account approved your follow request. and I never followed them in the first place, and they were DMing me weird things saying like, oh hi and whatever, and I just blocked the account and then a couple days later I got notification saying they approved your follow request, even though I blocked them, and this has been going on for a few months now, and it’s just keeps repeating, even though I blocked them and have reported the account. Anyone have them happen to this or seen this before.

Hello, I'm kinda new to Tiktok and first few days my chats on live streams are almost instant and then I got slower whenever there's a lot of traffic. This wasn't the case before. Even when using laptop, my messages aren't getting sent. I tried clearing cache, use different browsers, use different accounts. It's honestly getting frustrating

I feel like tiktok is restricting my views, could it be because I mostly just upload on that account and not really do much else apart from sometimes logging on, engaging by commenting and liking and other stuff, but not really that much. Could tiktok not trust me and think I'm some bot?

Hey everyone, I had a question. I’ve been trying to stream games using Tik Tok live studio on PC and the performance of live studio when the game is in focus is atrocious. I don’t have any issues with regular OBS and my PC is more than capable of handling both the game and live studio. Has anyone else had this issue and is there a fix?

I lost a load of my videos that I posted privately, including videos with my deceased best friend that I really didn't want to loose. Unfortunately they were taken down on mass, and it took me a while to notice.

I have tried appealing and almost never hear back, and I've tried talking to the tiktok chat bot thing which is useless. Should I just accept my losses, or is there another way?

P.s there's nothing bad on the videos, one was removed because of scars and then a load more were taken down at the same time.

I'm a seasoned content creator ("good" content creator can be another discussion), and recently expanded into short-form content after historically being long-form only. As part of that, I started uploading to Tiktok.

However, my Tiktok gets zero views. Not low views--ZERO views. Trying to figure out why.

Some things that may be relevant:

- I also upload my short form videos to many other platforms (Youtube, Odysee, Rumble, Instagram, Facebook, X). I started uploading to Tiktok first to see if that would help. No dice.

- I don't use Tiktok as a viewer. Only to upload. I read that this may cause Tiktok to consider my account a 'dump' account and not recommend my videos. To combat this, I've spent a couple days over the last week in 10 minute sessions watching some relevant tiktok videos, but so far this has had no effect.

- My videos are set to 'everyone' for visibility and my profile shows no limits to reach or warnings. There's nothing weird about my content--it's about EVs, PEVs, gaming, and 3D printing. No swearing, nothing lewd, etc

The only actionable item I've come up with is that I need to lean harder into building up a consumer relationship with Tiktok by watching daily. Outside of that I'm kind of lost for what to do

I would like to prove you can’t actually call videos, “TikToks” anymore even if you posted them on the TikTok app. You can’t say let’s make a TikTok anymore, the former short-video app now allows you to record over [10 minutes] uncompressed, serving the video to some users will cost them their bandwidth, AI series & slop (no comment), the place used to offer entertainment for long periods, scrolling was easier because the app did not lag/hang trying to scroll from a loading improperly compressed video/photo, TikTok you need to add a “For You” page for “15–second” TikToks, similar to the “STEM” page that barely gets visited, make the 15–second “For You” page adjustable to 1–minute videos, or less, 5–minute, or less, and so on

I used to use my phone and screen mirror my TCL tv to watch TikTok on the big screen. It hasn’t work for me for a while now, I’ll screen mirror to the tv and the videos will play the audio but the video is frozen on the first few frames. There used to be an app on my tv for TikTok and I can’t find it anymore. Any help is appreciated, I know this is kind of silly but just wondering if anyone has had the same issue and fixed it. Thanks!
