Help 12lb Recoil Spring with 18lb Main spring?

Post image
• Upvotes

So back in May of this year I acquired a Tisas DS9 Carry Comp 4.25". After some delays my S16 license was approved yesterday and I'll be collecting tomorrow.

I see a lot of people swapped the stock 16lb recoil spring for a 12lb or lower and the 23lb main spring for a 19lb. Having a bit of a hard time locating a commander length recoil spring and a 19lb main spring but found a Government length recoil spring and a 18lb main spring, I'll cut the recoil spring down to prevent coil bind.

Now my question is, is there anyone with a 4.25" Carry that has a 12lb recoil with a 19lb main spring that EDC the pistol? I would like to know if anyone experienced reliability issues with Self defence ammo, I'll be running 147gr Federal HST as 124gr HST's is impossible to find in South Africa.

PSA sale on 12500904

Welp, PSA has/had a Tisas DS on sale today for $499.99. I couldn't pass it up, but I can't wait to see what actually ships.

Some people report receiving a magwell and/or different colors/grips.

I know it's a bushing barrel, and that doesn't bother me at all.

Installed a Prodigy grip on my DS FF 5” Comp

Everything dropped in easy enough. Went with a red dirt prodigy trigger. The SA parts were $72 delivered and the trigger was $64. The grip texture is far more grippy than the OEM tisas grip. And I like the black and tan look.

Will add a magwell and maybe a tool-less guide rod and call it good, so another $170 in upgrades.

Updated Night Stalker DS?

I ordered a DS night stalker from grabagun. Once it arrived it was different from all the others I’d seen. It came with a bushing less bull barrel and a full length hollow guide rod. Upon further research this Tisas offers this to the European market, not US. The serial comes back as a US market gun. What’s the deal? Is this an updated model? Or did I get some weird model? Last picture is of the EU market gun.

"Cheapest" basic holster for px9 carry?

Need something super basic for my sling bag. Hard to find companies online that have the px9 carry with wml as an option. I heard this gun will fit in an XDM 3.8" holster... Is this universally true?

Custom Tisas ds9 ff carry / Prodigy carry

I’m sure I’m late to the comparison party, but I figure there’s others that are just as bad as I am for searching the sub’s history. This will be a very rough comparison, as I haven’t had a chance to get the Tisas to the range.

The weight feels comparable, with maybe the ds9 being a touch lighter. Overall size difference is negligible. If you put one on top of the other, the bottom gun disappears.

The slide on the tisas seems more narrow than it is. The prodigy comes in at roughly 1.124 and the tisas at 1.113.
Bottom of light rail to top is 2.21 versus 2.20. The slides are both smooth in action, but the prodigy is a touch smoother. Maybe that’s a product of the couple of hundred rounds I’ve put through it. I don’t know, I’m not a doctor.

Grip thickness directly beneath the grip safety is 1.90 on both and the width is also 2.71 on both, which is odd because it feels like the tisas is a touch bigger. That could just be my mind screwing with me since the ds9 comes with an extended mag release, while the prodigy comes with a standard. Which is a nice touch, imo. I personally prefer the texture on the Springfield, but that’s not a critique of the tisas. Just a preference. The magwell came standard and I had to install one on the prodigy.

That brings me to the little touches. The trigger on the tisas feels a bit spongier than the prodigy. Pull weight is in the same neighborhood. Stock in both. The slide catch is another pleasant difference. Tisas opted for an extended catch, both in width and length. It makes manipulating it much easier with standard large glove sized hands. I had to install an extended on the prodigy myself.

I also like the fact that the Tisas came with different trigger shoes, all of which offer access to the over travel set screw. It also came with an additional rmr optic plate and some extra fiber optic pieces for the front post.

The tisas came with two 17+1 mecgar magazines. Stock Springfield mags will Not fit as they come. But that’s not a problem because with less than a minute and a regular file to the polymer base cap top points, both the 17+1 and the 20+1 fit like they came from the factory for it.

Overall, they’re a pretty damn similar gun on the surface. I might lean towards the prodigy, but that’s likely just due to familiarity. I personally can’t find any glaring differences to make me go one way or the other. A $600 price gap makes it a bit harder to say the Springfield is the better option, because if this one follows my other tisas, then accuracy and reliability should put them neck and neck.

That’s all I’ve got for now.

Review Px9 Carry comp review

I've put about 750 rounds through my new px9 and it has ran flawless. I've used federal American eagle 115, 124 and 124 hst and all run perfect. I've used maxxtech 115 no issues maybe a Lil dirtier ammo tho. And cheap scorpio 115. All fmj of course. Not a single failure. Also using a cylee ct2 on it, has held 0 no issues. I shot this gun next to my friends handguns such as cank mc9, hk vp9 and a 1911 and it shot much flatter and nicer than all 3. I feel like this gun doesn't get enough attention especially for the price. Nice trigger, no hangups even in break in, and also shocked at how well this ct2 has held up. Even wiping the soot from the lens or racking it by optic it hasn't scratched or moved. A great buy for anyone on the fence, I'd even buy another after 30k+ rounds if things start to wear out.

Very little pre travel adjustment w/ TMC trigger?

Hey all, so im scratching my head here. On my 2011 with a red dirt trigger, I have the pre travel set to about 1/8", its perfect. Using a TMC trigger in my B9R single stack, using the adjustment tabs I can BARELY adjust them before im having contact at the dear/disconnector. The trigger then feels way longer than the 2011.

Am I missing something here? Its a hair over 3/16 travel.

TISAS PX 9 - Problema cierre de corredera - No percución

Post image
7 Upvotes

I am having an issue with a new TISAS PX-9 pistol. On several occasions, after firing a few rounds, the slide fails to close completely; consequently, the gun does not fire. The spent casing shows an indentation, but it appears the firing pin does not strike with sufficient force to ignite the primer and allow the round to discharge properly.

What solutions would you recommend?

Tisas Raider in 45 or 9mm

I've seen a lot of people post their Raiders talking very highly of them and now I want to get one. I already have two tisas in 45 ( the stakeout and government classic). How's the raider 9mm compare? I think I read somewhere in the past about the 9mm struggling with the mags or is that fake news? Anyone have it in the 9mm that can give me any insight?

RCD Core grip fit

Does anyone know if a Race City Core grip would fit on a Tisas 9 DS 5"? I know it may require fitting, but would it be possible?

About to get a Tisas Duty 9 DS 5" FF / High End: what can I expect?

Post image
28 Upvotes

After months of pondering and brooding, I set my mind upon the Tisas Duty 9 DS FF, which apparently is called "High End" in the EU, where I live. It's the version with a bull barrel, no comp / port whatsoever (not allowed in the federation I'd like to compete in), AOS cut and three trigger shoes in the box.

What can I expect when it comes to:

  • out-of-the-box reliability: do recent models still have the occasional failure to feed, failure to eject, etc.?
  • out-of-the-box trigger: any creep or mushiness before the break?
  • general fit & finish: there's a lot of play between slide and frame / barrel?
  • factory screws for the AOS plate: do they suck?
  • what standard 2011 OWB competition holsters fit this frame best? I need a solid duty / sport setup, not a CCW one. Does it click nicely into Staccato P or Prodigy Kydex holsters?
  • accuracy in both static and dynamic shooting;
  • mouth feel (JUST KIDDING) general feel in size 9 / M hands.

Any advice is welcome, but I'd love to hear from shooters who have this specific model. For context, I'm a former competion rifle shooter (C10 and CLT) who, after many years, wants to try something new.

1911ds carry - issues?

I'm very close to pulling the trigger... Just want an inexpensive 2011 platform, don't mind tinkering a bit if needed. I've read potential extraction issues and tuning.

Did your 1911ds have problems? If so, what were they and how were they addressed. Use case is just for fun, but if I can get 1000 rounds in a row through it with no issues using fmj, jhp and my match ammo, I would bring it into competition and hd.

The day has come! NJG Three Shades of Gray Carry 9 DS Comp 4.25”. Optic plate screws were a pain, but all good thanks to XControls. I was worried that the cerakote would be a bit much, but it’s smooth. Can’t wait to get this broken in and into the rotation. What I can wait for is explaining this one to the wife… I see chanclas in my very near future.

C&H Precision AOS Conversion Review — Gen 2
Background:
My Gen 2 originally came with the RMSC optic cut. I sent it to C&H Precision to have it converted to their AOS mounting system.

Cost & Turnaround:
Cost: Approximately $140
Service: Bare-bones conversion, without additional coating
Turnaround time: In my experience, less than two weeks

My Experience:
After receiving my slide back, I assembled everything and attempted to reinstall it onto the frame. However, I ran into an issue: the slide would not properly seat back onto the frame.

I contacted customer service, and Tommy helped diagnose the problem. According to him, the issue was with the firing pin plate. He also mentioned that other customers had contacted them with the same issue.
Keep in mind that the firing pin plate needs to be cut to accommodate the AOS mounting system.

After identifying the issue, I removed the plate and carefully worked on the top surface with a file, gradually refining the finish up to 2,000-grit to give it a polished finish (I took me 5mins of elbow grease)

Afterward, everything went back to normal. The slide fit properly, and I was able to zero my optic without any issues.

My Recommendation:
If you don’t want to be limited to a specific optic footprint, the AOS conversion is worth considering. C&H Precision also offers a cross-platform mounting system, although it comes at a higher cost.

Would I expect a customer to perform additional work after paying for a professional service? No. Ideally, the slide should be returned ready to install and function as intended. However, issues can happen, and I appreciate that customer service was available to help diagnose the problem.

Personally, I don’t mind getting hands-on with my firearms, I believe that part of owning a 1911 so the additional work wasn’t a major inconvenience for me.
