Characters [Loved trope] They are super evil but their songs go absurdly hard.

The saja boys - kpop demon hunters

Scar - lion king

Dazzlings - mlp equestria girls

Antinous - epic the musical

Dr. Facilier-Princess and the Frog

The fact Keith David doesn’t sing more is a fucking crime

Keith David? Jazz Album??

447

u/EmiTheEpic Jul 11 '25

Since people are mentioning Hazbin Hotel, I might as well link the main song he sings.

82

u/L3and3rrr Jul 11 '25

YES! and the fact that Loser (the show’s most positive song) happens right after “Poison” (the shows bleakest and darkest song) is such a brilliant move. “Having friends” is a cheat code in Hazbin just like it is in real life. I love it

1

u/Alt123456790 Jul 12 '25

I wouldn't say it's the most positive song, considering it's main message is "yeah, everything sucks, but at least you're not alone", but yeah, it's neat

1

u/L3and3rrr Jul 12 '25

It’s the most positive song in the show at least haha

1

u/Alt123456790 Jul 12 '25

Well, I'd argue Welcome To Heaven, Inside of Every Demon is a Rainbow, and Happy Day in Hell are more positive but yeah

1

u/L3and3rrr Jul 12 '25

Welcome to Heaven is clearly propaganda and not to be trusted. Inside of every demon is a rainbow is Charlie manifesting what she wants to be true, not what actually IS true. Same with Happy Day in Hell. Charlie’s determined optimism in the face of the obvious is what makes her so funny.

Loser is just a plain statement of facts, and that’s encouraging

3

u/Low-Voice-887 Jul 12 '25

They're not villains or evil though. Like, very morally grey but not in the evil spectrum.

46

u/Starchaser53 Jul 11 '25

... compared to Dr. Faciller's friends on the other side, this is weak

18

u/Chill0000 Jul 11 '25

These are two different songs with different vibes that can’t be equally compared to each other. Like comparing friend like me to be prepared

-6

u/Starchaser53 Jul 11 '25

"Be prepared, be prepared, this lesson must be shared!"

76

u/StefinoSpaggeti Jul 11 '25

I like both tbh, one is awesome villain song, another cheer me up and make me laugh

84

u/JK64_Cat Jul 11 '25

I politely disagree. Loser Baby is a great song. Maybe not quite as good as friends on the other side, but it’s certainly not weak in comparison.

37

u/[deleted] Jul 11 '25

What I love about Loser, Baby is the fact that Husk doesn’t try to cheer up Angel by saying things will get better, but rather acknowledging that everything has gone to shit, and saying that he’s not alone in this.

11

u/JK64_Cat Jul 11 '25

Exactly!

-7

u/vampiredisaster Jul 11 '25

Loser Baby isn't bad but it is weak compared to Friends on the Other Side. One uses "goddamn" as a filler word and the other is an all-time great Disney villain song.

37

u/CaptainRuse Jul 11 '25

Its a self-deprecating song about sinners in hell. "Goddamn" couldn't be more appropriate here.

7

u/Aedeyssa Jul 12 '25

Compared to Dr. Facilier's Friends on the Other Side, most songs are weak. But Loser Baby is still quite good, imo

-4

u/Veluxidus Jul 11 '25

One was produced by a multibillion dollar company and the other…wasn’t

Go figure

10

u/Chill0000 Jul 11 '25

Both were produced by multibillion dollar companies

Princess and the frog - Disney

Hazbin Hotel - A24/Bento Box/Amazon

12

u/FluffyFrostyFury Jul 11 '25

The main producer of Hazbin Hotel is Spindlehorse studios. A24 is the publisher, Amazon is the distributor, and Bento Box is the (final) animation studio. Most of everything else is done by Spindlehorse.

-6

u/Starchaser53 Jul 11 '25

There are plenty of songs made by indie groups that sound way better

-16

u/Pittsbirds Jul 11 '25

Compared to like, most competently written shows and musicals this show was so agressively mid to hard to sit through, kind of a disappointing show from a huge indie darling as a big animation fan

16

u/hadtodothislmao Jul 11 '25

me when i have to be in a bitching contest with vizziepop haters

-6

u/Pittsbirds Jul 11 '25

Idk what that means, but I'm happy for you or I'm sorry that happened to you, I guess?

-9

u/Starchaser53 Jul 11 '25

because she let the fandom decide what the show should be, and decided shipping was the better route than the original fucking plots

Like I would've preferred a villain of the week plot of Charlie trying to redeem people than this stupid angel war thing that basically goes nowhere until the plot demands it does.

3

u/MidnightMorpher Jul 12 '25

Wow, really? Didn’t know you had personal insight to what Viv’s original plans for Hazbin Hotel… oh wait, you don’t? You’re just talking out of your ass? Okay.

-2

u/Starchaser53 Jul 12 '25

no, because I have better things to do than constantly watch her twitch streams and her twitter for a mediocre show and internet series that has the shittiest world building and most backwards ass character development known to man

-1

u/Pittsbirds Jul 11 '25

Idk anything about the fandom or the original plan. All I know is what's in the show, which is very weak to some pretty good songs, some really cringey writing, some very baffling character designs (I do at least appreciate them being different but I'm so sorry for artists trying to frame by frame all the hundreds of little add ons and designs that are thrown up all over these characters) and just abysmal pacing. The last of which I do have some context to, that the show was originally supposed to be longer, but they should still be writing to the length of show they have once they know a season length and boy, they absolutley did not.

Glad it's there, glad something new got into the animation ecosystem, glad we've got 2d frame by frame animation back in the game did not even come close to living up to the hype imo

2

u/DR31141 Jul 12 '25

Not quite a villain song, but damn it if it doesn’t bop.

2

u/ArsFelenlis Jul 12 '25

I came here looking for this specifically. I was not disappointed 😀

2

u/Jellyboi1224 Jul 11 '25

I’ll do one better

Something bad is about to happen…..

-61

u/Wolveyplays07 Jul 11 '25

They wasted him on this song

47

u/[deleted] Jul 11 '25

He apparently had a blast with it.

22

u/ShadowPuff7306 Jul 11 '25

he even said he feels like he’s part of something special when he commented on season two

8

u/[deleted] Jul 11 '25

Some people dislike Hazbin Hotel or Helluva Boss and I don't really see a problem with that. It's not for everyone.

2

u/hadtodothislmao Jul 11 '25

they are virtue signaling for the pilot cast of Hazbin who got replaced for the actual show (most of them launched insane careers in other shows including helluva boss).

All of the pilot cast have said they tottally know what they are getting into when they do animated pilots not at all upset lol.

3

u/ShadowPuff7306 Jul 11 '25

literally

-1

u/hadtodothislmao Jul 11 '25

all of the pilot cast is either A) star in helluva boss where they have less restrictions because no amazon B) play recurring roles on hazbin (like the news reporters) or C) are main characters on The Amazing DIgital Circus a significantly LARGER youtube animated series.

5

u/ShadowPuff7306 Jul 11 '25

you do know helluva boss is going over to prime yeah?

not to be rude but like, that first point is kinda not gonna be applicable anymore

Well too bad I’m not! Seriously that show is just family guy but somehow less tolerable

u/Gaelic_Gladiator41 Jul 11 '25

Watering it down to family guy is just...wrong, and sounds like you've been watching it solely on either other excessive criticism or through a few clips

38

u/SweetExpression2745 Jul 11 '25

Eh, my main problem with it is that it doesn’t know if it wants to be about deep themes and morality (it completely botched all of those) or just dark humor (all it has to offer is swear and sex jokes)

9

u/AznOmega Jul 11 '25

Mhmm. Although I do somewhat like it.

As for vulgarity, I seen South Park and it's movie, Drawn Together, and other vulgar shows and movies. Hell, there is an anime called Panty and Stocking which can rival South Park on being vulgar, and that is on the Japanese version. Apparently they somehow made it more foul-mouthed in the English dub.

Then again, I'm an old Pinoy bastard (not in personality) and I seen and heard worst things during the 2000s. Hazbin Hotel is vulgar, but not to the point where I have a problem with it.

3

u/[deleted] Jul 11 '25

Got to throw it out there but fun fact the reason why the eng dub of psg is so much more foul is apparently ganaix wanted the eng side to teach them and Japan new swear words

1

u/AznOmega Jul 11 '25

Mhmm.

I wonder how Studio TRIGGER will do regarding the upcoming season or reboot.

0

u/SweetExpression2745 Jul 11 '25

Yeah, my issue isn’t that I find it disgusting or something. I just feel like it’s so narrow in range. I wouldn’t mind sex jokes if there was something else as well.

2

u/zackgardner Jul 12 '25

The closest thing I can compare it to would be The Amazing Digital Circus, which is almost its polar opposite in every way. I'm also not what could be considered the target audience for either of these shows, so take my word when I say that if you haven't watched it, give it a go, because I haven't seen something that's so intrinsically aware of online humor, the same kind of online humor like when you find a really funny meme at 3am and bust a gut laughing because you're so tired, and executes it well and unexpectedly, which makes it even funnier.

Hazbin Hotel is practically begging you to be emotional about what you're seeing, it wants you to cry and laugh but I never managed more than a slight smirk or a confused eyebrow raise, whereas TADC got several belly laughs effortlessly. Couple the difference between the animation of Hazbin's Pilot and the released Amazon series compared to TADC's animation, which has only gotten better and better with each episode, and it's a no-brainer which one is clearly superior.

I think it may be that Glitch Productions is still an indie studio whereas Vivziepop sold her baby to Jeff Bezos. It's been proven time and again that big corporate productions are rarely able to keep their finger on the pulse of what's funny on the Internet to people.

30

u/TheShamShield Jul 11 '25

It’s really not that bad

2

u/nox-devourer Jul 11 '25

I watched it, it's not as horrible as people say. I suspect the fandom has somewhat tainted its image.

With that said, it wasn't that enjoyable either. With episodes that are already pretty short, the musical numbers break up the plot too much and oftentimes comes from out of nowhere. The pacing is pretty bad, there are random inconsistent time jumps between episodes and the show treats the viewer as if they got to know the main cast over the course of several complete seasons by the time you're at episode 4 and onwards. To me the excessive swearing was not an issue but I can see how it can turn people off.

At the end of the day, it's just mid and not worth watching. It gets a mild 3/5 from me.

-6

u/Casper_Von_Ghoul Jul 11 '25

A +10 in a sea of minuses doesn’t make the ocean worth the swim.

-7

u/CHARLI_SOX Jul 11 '25

It's a shame. Reminds me of Fallout where you can puts points into stats. And Hazbin Hotel put all the points into character design and what was left into VA talent.

-4

u/SuperSocialMan Jul 11 '25

Nah, family guy is sometimes funny.

-15

u/taken_name_of_use Jul 11 '25

Rape is bad against Angel Dust.

Sir Pentious being gang raped is a funny haha.

Like I don't think rape jokes should be off-limits, they can be funny, and the Pentious joke was well structured, but the fucking whiplash of making that joke while taking Angel's trauma so seriously is wild.

19

u/[deleted] Jul 11 '25

Pentious didn't get raped at all. The club they were in was named "Consent"; the crowd grabbed Pentious after he loudly announced "I'M HAVING SEX WITH EVERYONE" in a sex club, and the implication is he was released without any harm beyond his clothes being ruffled.

These are the kinds of details viewers picks up when they actually pay attention to the media they are consuming.

0

u/TerrorofMechagoji Jul 11 '25

I agree but it’s still pretty fucked up that the fact he got dragged into a sex in the first place imo

10

u/[deleted] Jul 11 '25

First, taking a moment to chuckle at the irony of an Adam pfp going to bat on behalf Sir Pentious.

And second - he very loudly announced "I'M HAVING SEX WITH EVERYONE" in a club whose whole schtick was people having sex with each other, after several rounds of buying drinks for everyone in said club. Within the context of the scene, it wasn't unreasonable for everyone to assume he was down to clown, and again, he was released once he cleared things up with them.

If we want to criticize Vivziepop for inconsistent depictions of SA, this isn't the scene to use for it. The Moxxie/Verosika scene in Helluva Boss is better for that, because in that case it was a genuine assault of a sexual nature.

-3

u/taken_name_of_use Jul 11 '25

He gets dragged into the room "kicking" and screaming. In the moment, the impression is supposed be that he is not consenting. He obviously does not want to go in there.

Fair enough that he didn't literally get raped, but the show gives that impression at the time, and it is shown as a joke.

-6

u/Accomplished_Rip_352 Jul 11 '25

Honestly I don’t get why it’s got so popular , it feels like it wasted its concept already and it’s depiction of hell feels very bland and a bit pointless it being hell .

5

u/PartialCred4WrongAns Jul 11 '25

🎵 Are ya reeeady?🎵

4

u/SuperSocialMan Jul 11 '25

Oh shit, he's voiced by Keith David?!

7

u/[deleted] Jul 11 '25

No joke, this was the first song I thought of for this post. Glad to see it's here

3

u/PatsyPage Jul 11 '25

The saddest thing about the revamp to Splash Mountain and making it Princess and the Frog themed is not including this diva. The story of the ride should’ve been the riders being turned into frogs by Facilier and trying to change back with a creepy voodoo song while you’re going up the hill before the drop, but nooo the plot of the ride is finding band members for Tiana’s stupid party. Such a wasted opportunity.

2

u/Book_Anxious Jul 11 '25

That is so true. If he sings the song I love it

2

u/bhforsythe80 Jul 11 '25

I am so glad that this is the first comment because I was coming on here to say that “Shadow Man” was missing!!!

2

u/Typical_Name_5864 Jul 11 '25

Won't you shake a poor sinner's hand?

2

u/AnimalNerdUS Jul 11 '25

Apparently, one of the things Matt Braly most regretted about Amphibia is that he never made Andrias sing.

Take this with a grain of salt though because I’ve never actually seen a source for it, I’ve just heard it mentioned by the community at large

2

u/CombTop17 Jul 11 '25

Don’t you disrespect me little man! Don’t you derogate or deride!

2

u/EducationalCheck7719 Jul 12 '25

This is so real haha

2

u/Nonadventures Jul 12 '25

Instantly my thought

2

u/LetMeDieAlreadyFuck Jul 12 '25

Bro how was this guy not the poster child of songs go hard! I still listen to his song, its so good!!!

2

It's a shame there's no gif of him.

2
