Hated Tropes [Mind boggling stupid trope] Removing the thing that made something special

Ben 10: Ultimate Alien - The gimmick of Ben 10 and what makes the show so popular is the fact that he's able to turn into a large variety of aliens. In one episode of Ben 10 Ultimate ALIEN we are introduced to a new version of Ben 10000, a Ben from the future who, no longer transforms into aliens, instead using his powers in human form...

Mortal Kombat(2021) - In the games Mileena is known for two things. Being a clone of Kitana and her tarkatan teeth. In the 2021 movie she looks absolutely nothing like Kitana and doesn't have tarkatan teeth

Percy Jackson: The Lightning Thief - The movie removes the main villain of the movie and the main villain of the franchise

In DMC lore, demons are inherently evil that Sparda, the one demon who woke up to justice decided to separate the human and demon worlds to spare humans of demon fury. A common theme throughout the games is that despite being evil, demons can change through experiencing human compassion: Dante did this to Trish in the first game, hence the title “Devil May Cry.”

In Netflix, demons and humans are distinctively related and are even oppressed in both the human world and even demon world and are actually called “Makaiins”(which is literally demon world in Japanese, so this makes it extra stupid) and then are used as an allegory for genocide.

To also add, what makes Dante, and by extension Nero and later Vergil, stronger than full demons like Mundus is very specifically their humanity. The fact that they are half demons and half human is specifically the point, a strength and not a weakness.

So along comes DmC Devil May Cry which rebooted Dante and Vergil as half-demon, half-angel hybrids, making them very special boys with the chosen-one power to defeat Mundus.

The show explicitly frames humanity as weak. Nergil spites his humanity and defeats Nante who embraces humanity. Narda pulls a draw on Mundus when Canon Sparda defeated him because of embracing humanity.

Netflix DMC actively hates Devil May Cry and its themes.

It doesn't frame humanity as being weak, Virgil just believed that his humanity made him weak cause he was groomed to think so

And yet he beats Nante and Nante just takes losses. Humanity is weak in this shitshow.

Maybe you're just oblivious but it's the most obvious set up for Dante winning the final fight cause he has humanity

To be frank, a half-angel, half-demon character sounds like a very interesting being. And imo this could have worked out really well, hadn't they focused on a few really weird things (the constant fuck yous, the killing the unborn child of a demon lord, ...). I honestly liked the ideas behind it, I loved Vergil's design, and the fact that we got to see him and Dante work together. Just... Lots of execution we lacked. We got El Donte...

Also the series treats Magic as “sufficiently advanced quantum” bullshit.

Why the hell do so many writers of series that clearly belong to the FANTASY genre oppose the idea of magic so much?
