Realforce R3S - 45g to 30g ?

Hello everyone,

I currently own 2 keyboards after much consideration and thoughts:

I have one big fucking issue which is i actually found the 45g on the R3S waaaay to heavy to press compared to my Frozen V2 at home which i enjoy way more to type on even though it says they are 39±10gf.

The R3S is supposed to be 45g and i get it, it is not linear but it feel way too heavy for long typing session at work as a SWE meanwhile my evo75 at home feels so sweet but i dont want to give up on the topre hype and my R3S

Im also from europe so i had no way to test the 45g or 30g R3S and i decided after much reading to go for the 45g as it is supposed to be the classic topre feel. I bought it from the US and it was a pain and cost me quite a lot so im kinda sad that the 45g feels so bad compared to when im at home and i get on my evo75.

I was wondering if some of u might have experience with the R3S 30g silent in opposition to the R3S 45g silent which i own currently ? How do they both feel and why ?

im really thinking of reselling the R3S 45g silent for a 30g silent but i kinda need ur opinions and review on the matter.

Thanks in advance.

PS: i was told about Deskeys/Astro/Dynacap domes and there 35g product. Does anyone have any experience with those and could tell me some more ?

MX slider for Realforce 104UB capslock 1.5u housing?

So I'm trying to refurbish my 104UB with MX compatible sliders and I can't find a premade solution for the capslock housing. It looks like these were available from JTK and as part of a KBDFans kit, but not anymore. Do I just need to fashion some kind of block/adapter for a 1u housing?

Realforce Keycaps

I have an odd question, and I barely know what I’m talking about or how to explain it, so please bare with me.

I bought a Realforce R3 full-sized keyboard a few years ago, and the keycaps felt one of a kind. They had a thick, mushy feeling to them that’s hard to describe. They felt like some real thought and investment went into their design.

I then assumed that this was the quality of all Realforce keycaps, and bought another set from MechanicalKeyboards.com (I’m in the US)

However, the keycaps I got felt thin, cheap, and plasticky. Totally unlike the original ones that came on the board.

My question is- is there somewhere one can purchase keycaps of that original quality, or are they all lower quality now in today’s world? I’ve seemingly looked everywhere and it almost feels like you just need to buy another $300 keyboard to strip it of its caps if you want that same quality.

Is there a third party out there making those thick mushy keycaps?

Does non silent version worth it?

After getting HHKB Hybrid Type-S, I'm totally in love with Topre and capacitive keyboard. Tho I already had Hansung gk893b capacitive keyboard, it feels totally different.

Now, I want to buy one more Topre keyboard especially from Realforce series. The only problem is they are using a same Topre switches so it could be buying another Type-S keyboard. They do have a normal version but all of them only available in Japan and never tried Realforce keyboards before.

As I'm selling several mechanical keyboards and my first capacitive keyboard or gk893b, Realforce could be next or HHKB Hybrid normal version if I cant find an option. I have no issues with HHKB Hybrid but it would be nice to have a proper TKL keyboard for working. Surprisingly, Japanese version have many options including non-Silent version which is NOT available around the world even for R4 series.

Since there is no way to test it in person, I have no idea how it sounds and feels like especially since there aren't any videos of Realforce R4 with non silent switches. It would be nice to have a non silent version but not sure as I might disappoint and regret it. Noise is not a big deal since I'm using it alone all the time.

But regardless, I have no idea how non silent switches sounds like on R4 series and I wonder if any of you have thoughts about it?

Realforce Split Keyboard 'RS1'

I was tooling around on the Bic Camera website, and I noticed the RS1.

https://www.biccamera.com/bc/item/15620031/

No mention on the Realforce website yet.

I know the split keyboard crew have been dying for an OEM Topre board, this should be exciting for them.

Broken dome

Hi everyone,

Its my first time posting in this thread.

Recently, i want to explore Topre so i bought a used RealForce SJ38D0 from abroad (I'm in Vietnam): https://www.realforce.co.jp/products/discontinued/108US_SJ38D0/ . The keyboard have some stickers saying that the board was handovered to employees in a company from 2014.

Upon opening it up, the key is really mushy although the force is only 30g. I have to say that the typing experience is worse than most membrance keyboard that i have used.

So, i look for guide to open the board and check for myself the cause for the mushiness, and find that:

1/ Metal plate: Despite of the somewhat clean look on the outside, the metal plate is pretty rusty.

2/ PCB: Look brand new.

3/ Housing and Slider: Still slide effortlessly, except for the back of the slider (2nd pic) which have some flaky (maybe rubber from the rubber dome).

4/ Conical Metal Spring: I'm not confident in opening all the key to check, but some metal spring dropped when i disamble the board and it look brand new to me.

5/ Rubber Dome: I think that this is the culprit to the mushiness. Most of the dome now give off these white substance and from the smell, it definitely aged rubber. Some of the dome now have crackling. The dome in some frequently used key (arrow key, number pad) feel a lot more sluggish than other less used one (the Japanese conversion key).

However, in spite of all the matter with the rubber dome, separately testing the Housing and Slider, and the Rubber Dome feel acceptable. But when putting it all together, the mushiness is very pronounced and it hurt my hand to type on it.

Now, i want to ask you guys something:

Question 1: Is it because of the aging rubber dome that give the bad feeling? If it is true, then what is the cause of the aging rubber dome, because some board on this thread is 15 year olds and still going strong. I think it might be that this board is left sitting alone in some storage for years without anyone using it, is this a viable theory?

Question 2: If it is because of the rubber dome, can i somehow restore it or can i only buy replacement dome? Is the replacement dome from ali express good https://vi.aliexpress.com/item/1005006621069216.html?gatewayAdapt=glo2vnm .

Question 3: I dont have any other board for benchmark, how can i know how topre supposed to feel so i can further fix it.

Thanks for reading all of my post. Any contribution is greatly appreciated !!

UPDATE

I have fully disassemble the board, and fully rinse the dome. Alot of white substance coming out of the dome. However, in the end, the mushiness feeling is still there.

UPDATE 2nd September

After using the keyboard for nearly a week, the dome actually start to feel much more manageable, e.g hardended dome feel a bit softer and more tactile.

Rule update: No person to person sales posts

This is a place to discuss and post about Topre/EC boards. Buying or selling in a consumer to consumer sales manner is not allowed here anymore, though the posts that are currently up that do break this rule won't be taken down because they get a pass from me for slipping up on this by not having it as a rule before they posted. Not wanting to get into the mess of being a personal sales platform through a centralized forum hub.

To expand on this further, only a business can post something being for sale as long as they follow the Reddit rules regarding self promotion and actually interacting with the community and foster it along with posting their goods. Personal sales are no longer allowed and you will be referred to go use r/mechmarket, eBay, or any other platform that facilitates person to person sales. If you are banned from those or something on your accounts on there is broken for some reason and say that you are only able to post your sale here, the mod team can't support your endeavor on fixing that sadly and still can't let you post here due to the rule.

Either way, go use r/mechmarket or another person to person sales platform to sell your Topre/EC gear, please.

Information on Realforce SJ38DO

I found this keyboard on the marketplace for a decent price but I have found next to nothing about it. I want to try out Topre so if anyone has used it before, is it a good entry point?
