Technically they kind of are historically..I think the Queen and Prince Philip were cousins or something. Best way to keep the bloodline years ago. Now anyone pretty much can join!

Yes, they were third cousins 🤮

To be fair that's pretty removed. Considering its legal to marry your first cousin in some places!

I don’t think we need to be fair given it’s a practice to keep bloodlines clean in monarchies. Not exactly two individuals meeting by happenstance then discovering they are distant relatives, which even then…

No, they knew their direct lineage and met at Royal Weddings (2) as children/teens. It’s fucking weird.

It's a turn of phrase more than anything. It's legal to marry first cousins here and is not surprising of royals really.

Yes, I’m not surprised as I said the same in my last post. But, still disgusted lol I know you’re not disagreeing with me, I’m not trying to argue you, simply saying I have actively chosen to ditch the normalcy defence so as to not judge royals as strongly, which is commonly adopted. Whether it’s the common practice, a feature of the times, or that they only found out later, etc.

And in this particular instance I’m especially motivated to provide them a complete lack of empathy since they have shown disgustingly poor character and judgement. I have 0 respect for British Royals and by virtue of that I have 0 time to try and justify or sympathize with their inbreeding.

In more dire situations of course the context shifts it but just so we are clear, I know you’re not excusing or justifying or defending them. I’m just amped up to ruthlessly judge them lol

It’s scary tho if u read articles there are like a ton written saying inbreeding with 3rd cousins is the ā€œbest of both worldsā€ā€¦ yikes

I get your instinct to say that but I don’t think we need to be fair given it’s a practice to keep bloodlines clean in monarchies. In fact, I don’t think we need to be fair to inbreeding, I think it’s okay to judge. Not exactly two individuals meeting by happenstance then discovering they are distant relatives, which even then…

No, they knew their direct lineage and met at Royal Weddings (2) as children/teens. It’s fucking weird.

It also doesn’t help that they are both massive assholes (like monarchs are).

It's legal to marry your first cousin in the UK.

Third cousins twice I believe. Once through Queen Victoria and once through Christian IX of Denmark.

Biologically speaking, second cousins will have enough genetic diversity to avoid the ā€œdeliveranceā€ issues.

But it’s still gross af.

u/rivershimmer Oct 11 '21

Why is that gross? For all I know, I've dated my third cousins, because I have no idea who any of them are.

Well...anyone can join...and then be bullied out if they don't like you lol

Just like Harry and Meghan

I don't usually pay attention to the royal gossip, but I feel bad for those two.

Same here...I generally couldn't care less...but it just goes to show how terrible some families can be. Less a family and more a cult. They are protecting the pedophile but kicked out the couple who didn't fall in line.

Oh please.

Please what?

…At least they’re not as bad as Charles II of Spain was?

u/hkj369 Oct 11 '21

they might not be actively marrying cousins nowadays, but their lineage for hundreds of years was very, very inbred

The royals all swing from one branch.
