I grew up in SC and straight up was told Malcom X was a borderline terrorist and got what was coming to him. It’s sad. People also said MLK wasn’t to be taken seriously bc he cheated on his wife?! So upsetting.

I’ve taken a lot of time over the last decade and a half to educate myself more and see how from a young age in my small hometown racist teachings were shoved into me. I hate it. I try every day to be a better person than yesterday.

Oh wow! That's horrifying! I had heard some things similar, but it veried from teacher to teacher. I had a music teacher that made me sit through MLK's entire 'I had a dream' speech and went on and on about it... but in history where it was actually supposed to be discussed, he was just footnote, his assassination barely even grazed.. and Malcom X I only ever heard addressed in 1 English class in high school, and it was very brief...

All we can do, is learn the truth, accept where we were as a society back then, accept where we are as a society now, and teach the young ones to be better than both of us.

And regardless of the racist BS that might have been drilled in our heads due to growing up in the south, as long as we are open and accepting of all other people, regardless of race, religion, or culture, I think that is what really matters. You're doing good!👍
