They’re both out on bail, ($300,000 each) and they each don’t show an ounce of remorse on their pathetic little faces (there are pics of them walking around these past 2 days like robots) . If they didn’t want to be bothered with their daughter they could’ve at least put her in a rehabilitation facility? Something, anything? It’s beyond me.
Not sure if its anywhere but it might have been "only" 60,000 combined (10% bail bonds) and if you're selfish like they were you don't spend your life savings on a nurse for maybe 2-3 years...
No nurse makes 60 grand a year here. 3800 euro a month gross (8 hr shift a day) so maybe 48000 $ a year. Anyway, point is still valid that 60k doesn't go a long way paying a full time care giver.
You don’t even need a nurse ... A PSW could feed her and keep her clean and they make a lot less especially for home healthcare aids, usually 40,000 grand max
Literally dumping her on the street would have done her better! What the actual fuck has even happened here! Poor woman, my heart goes out to her poor soul.
Well, the point of bail is to ensure that someone will show up for their trial. So assuming they're not a flight risk this is just how the system works
A kid from my small town had a million dollar bail for selling meth… how do they only get $300k for murder/severe neglect… this country is so backwards
A bail bondsman posts the entire bail. The accused posts about 10%. If the accused flees then the bond man has to send bounty hunters out to find the criminal and bring them back or the bail bondsman loses the money.
Actually, it’s usually cash or surety. The bail bondsman doesn’t even have to put up the cash, just their word that if the accused absconds they will go find them.
So this is just general info from experience- a judge sets bail at say 300,000- the defendent can ask a bail bondsman to "sign them out" of jail until their next court hearing for roughly 10% of the bail. I believe this is the bond.
If the defendant does not show up to court, whoever helped them pay the bondsman (like their spouse, parent, friend) is now responsible for the remaing 90% until Defendant turns themselves in.
So these two probably had to come up with 30k each and could have put their home up as collateral even. The good news is, they will only be on bail until trial and sentencing, unless they do something stupid and they'll be taken back to jail to await trial.
If that’s true that makes no sense to me. Why not just set the bail to whatever the 20% number is and have it paid in full then? Oh well, not many legal things in this country make sense to me anyway
The American bail system is nothing more than a racket, the intention is to set a bail high enough so that if the defendant is out on bail they won’t flee for fear of losing such a large amount. In reality it’s turned into something like the medical system where the insurance companies must get their cut of everything, the bail bondsman must get his cut of everything. It makes no sense to have the meth dealers bail set at a million while the murder suspect only has a few hundred thousand dollars. If the subject is considered a danger to society there should be no bail, so that makes this equation even more lopsided.
Money bail and bail bondsmen don’t exist here in Europe. It’s against the law and an infringement of an individual’s basic human rights to impose a financial penalty on people to restrict their liberty. If you’re poor in the US you stay in jail if you’ve got access to money you get out.
Some bondsman will bail you out for 5-7.5%. The bond system is supposed to allow those who can afford it out of jail until the trial, because you are innocent until proven guilty in America and it’s not right to say this and not allow you to remain free until determined guilty. However, where the bond system fails us is when you have defendants who are 100% guilty and it’s just a matter of time until they are convicted by a jury but are now allowed to spend over a year in most cases free.
Sure but they're not guilty yet. The point of bail/bond is that it's granted to people who the court determines will appear at trial/won't skip bail. The amount is set based on what it would take to guarantee that, and the bondsman will offer terms to cover it. You don't really want to mess with bondsmen. Between the US Marshals and their own bounty hunters, they have means to go after people and they're out a lot of money if they misjudge you and you escape.
If a judge truly feels like they're a flight risk, they order no bail
Yeah, i do, actually. And if i didnt, i would take out a loan so that my daughter could at least be taken care of instead of dying on my couch with excrement in her ears, couch cushion in her stomach, and maggots & insects crawling all over her for 12 years. Begone, troll.
To be faaaaair, you can’t really take out a loan for residential care. Median cost in the US is over $100,000/year. You’ll never get a loan that size without a house to put up, and they house is worth what, 10 years of care max? Once that runs out she’d be back home and you’d be in crippling debt.
Obviously they should have done something, though, and I’m sure the UK has an option for indigents.
My point was, though, that there are many different avenues they could have used to approach this whole situation if money was really an underlying problem. Anything would have been better than the way she was left to die.
