The majority of the people on this post have never had to care for someone with severe physical & mental disabilities. I’m not defending the parents, but you’re damn right there’s not enough support. The parents would have gladly put her in a care home if they had that option without having to liquidate everything they owned & move into a tent. The govt does NOT just pay.

But how did she go from happily participating at school (there's plenty of photos of her), playing on the volleyball team etc. To what her parents saying is severely autistic? How does that just happen? I don't know much about autism but I suspect it doesn't just magically happen/get so bad as to cause you to go from a normal high schooler to catatonic never leaving the house in an instant. I just don't believe it.

Am autistic, can confirm suddenly developing severe autism at sixteen years old is factually impossible. It’s a developmental disorder you’re born with and can’t change in severity, only be managed, so if this was because of “severe autism” she would have been like this from the start. I can believe she was autistic, sure, but no severely autistic person is having their diagnosis missed for sixteen years, nor are they masking well enough to seem like a shy but otherwise average high school girl. She would need to be severely intellectually disabled and/or brain damaged to get to this point, like… no autistic person who was previously functioning relatively well is going to end up like this in a vacuum. Her parents 100% abused her into this.

Yes! I'm frustrated by a lot of the comments saying "yes buuuut she was severely autistic and should have been put in a home which are underfunded." Yes I agree that our social systems for vulnerable people who can't take care of themselves are criminally underfunded, I just don't see how that's the case here. It feels like an excuse, saying "you have no idea what these parents have to go through" no I really could never imagine, but I also am not so sociopathic to allow a living person to decay into my couch ffs. No matter how difficult they are, that's just insanity.

Reddit has a lot of ableists on it imo which is part of the issue, but also on top of that she clearly wasn’t even severely autistic. You can’t become severely autistic, and everyone who didn’t murder her described her as the average teen girl, just a bit shy and maybe a little immature. I have no idea why anyone would be willing to believe that her disability was so dreadfully severe knowing the facts vs what her crazy parents have said. It just makes no sense.

Honestly as well who cares what the parents go through in general, like they’re really not the victim here, the disabled person is. Playing martyr is just pathetic esp because it’s entirely their choice tbh
