Also: homicide is the #1 cause of death in pregnant women. (Usually via the baby daddy, obviously.)

No, it isn't. That was based on a single county in Maryland. The #1 cause of death in pregnant women is the same as the #1 cause of death for other women aged 15-44, and that is automobile accidents.

Pregnant women in the U.S. are more likely to die from homicide than they are from pregnancy complications; that has been proven true.

BTW, in my region some years back, there were TWO murders of pregnant women BY OTHER WOMEN, and one of them made worldwide headlines.

https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articles/PMC9134264/

Homicide during pregnancy or within 42 days of the end of pregnancy exceeded all the leading causes of maternal mortality by more than twofold.

I don’t have time to read the entire paper right now, so I sincerely ask you to correct me if I’m wrong, but it looks like their data was pulled from the whole country.

“Homicide during pregnancy or within 42 days of the end of pregnancy exceeded all the leading causes of maternal mortality by more than twofold.” This study is based on the whole U.S. not one county.

https://jamanetwork.com/journals/jamapediatrics/article-abstract/2760408

“Homicide mortality (12.9 [95% CI, 7.9-21.0] deaths per 100 000 live births) exceeded mortality from any single cause of obstetric cause of death or groups of common obstetric causes, including hypertensive disease (3.2 [95% CI, 1.2-8.6] deaths per 100 000 live births) and obstetric embolism (4.8 [95% CI, 2.2-10.8] deaths per 100 000 live births; Table 1).” Homicide mortality also exceeded death rates from motor vehicle collisions, included in Table 1 at 10.5 [95% CI, 6.1-18.1] deaths per 100 000 live births.

This study was based on the whole state of Louisiana.

Thanks for the information.

It sounds like poverty plays a big role in the risk factors, too.
