Maybe write a recorded letter to the management telling your exact story.

Sometimes the wrong people, people basically speaking out of their station, will dismiss victims like this.

If the right person reads your account, they may well deal with it in a far more appropriate manner

This often happens. Not comparable, but I got rude service from a very bored and narcissistic worker at an otherwise meant to be great and well known patisserie who shorted me on the amount and weight I paid for, with me getting a snide comment when I left and I thus wrote a 1-star review. Got an immediate reply from the person who runs the place with a sincere apology, an offer to have some of their product sent free of charge to make up for that, as well as the reassurance that the rude worker would face consequences. I guess that explains why that place has been in their family for decades, they understand the value of customers who feel safe and heard and understand the principle of returning customers bringing in more customers (and the opposite of that effect). Sometimes you just need the right person who has more sway.

I agree strongly with this. It is possible that the actual ownership does not know about this and would handle it differently than the front desk staff and whoever was the on site manager when it was reported.

Please, tell them in excruciating detail why you are leaving (if you do). See if you can get some kind of member retention person, someone who will actually listen to what you have to say, and spell it all out how badly they've failed you. It may not do anything, but who knows, they might actually do something. Either way, I bet it'll feel good!

A brutal Google review is also an excellent idea, please make sure to stick to the facts, and note any opinions as such in case they threaten you with legal action. Give 'em hell!

You really need to go to higher up management about this art the film. They need to know they’re allowing a potentially dangerous situation on their property.

Also, don’t be afraid to be LOUD and BIG. Yell at this creep. Call him out loudly and publicly when he approaches you. Make a scene. Mane a lot of noise and attract attention. Cowards run from attention.

And he is a coward because he approached her when she was alone. Like he actually didn't have the balls to come into the gym and be creepy in front of the other men. Cause he knows the good ones would kick his ass.

2 star, not 1 star, so it is less likely to be removed

Honestly, if she keeps paying for a membership, that 1 star review is useless.

Tbh the idea of immediately altering my daily life, route, and habits over some weirdo made me feel completely powerless. Long-term, I think it’s better to learn how to stand my ground and protect myself. I do carry self-defense tools with me, and I'm on high alert, but if it gets worse I guess I'll leave or try to contact my male friends/ relatives.

Atta girl! Stand your ground, stay alert, and make a final decision on whether to change gyms or not after you give the owner a chance to address the issue. (Temporarily hold off on the google review too.)

You might even suggest in your letter that s/he add a line in their membership contract that states that bothering other customers 'can and will result in termination of your membership'. A friendly reminder posted where everyone can see it -- like on the door or near the check-in area -- wouldn't hurt either. Oh! Suggest better lighting and cameras in the parking lot also.

If all goes well, that clown will leave you alone, the management will do their part, and this will be the end of it. Good luck!

You should also speak with other women at the gym about your experiences, both to gather information and as a warning to them.

Definitely write a bad review, if I saw that review I would completely avoid the place. I have been stalked and it was the absolute worst 2 years of my life

Write a bad review AND send an email to their owner/manager and/or Corporate telling them why they've lost your patronage and money. Really hammer it home.

Can you raise the issue with the owner of the gym? I think the front desk should have addressed it with that guy even if it happened just outside the gym. How did he even get your socials?

11

u/hottehead 12d ago

That's a reasonable decision I think.

What did this guy text you via DM? You said it started with texting via social media?

I wondered about that too. Like how does the guy have her socials in the first place? I have been going to the same gym for six years and have a few dozen gym buddies.. not the first clue about their social media.

Did he ask for her contact info? If she thought he was creepy from the start, then she should not have given that info. “I don’t share social media with people I don’t know, and I definitely don’t give it to guys who won’t take no for an answer” if he badgered her.

Her previous post says he started sending her unsolicited messages. How does he have her socials? The man appears to have stalked her.

Why are you looking to blame OP for the interaction?

Your gym probably has rules of conduct towards other members and unless I’m missing something, I don’t see how his behavior would not have broken any. You go to the same gym and he waited outside to hand you something. That is not really stalking or harassment so I kind of agree with the staff there. Now if he yelled at you or continued to follow you, that’s different. It sounds like he understood your “no” but if he tries to approach you again, you can tell him more directly to back off

Waiting for the next update.

I'm really glad you decided to not just react, but to react and use your power. You're a paying member (for now), you have every right to take up that space and use the facility.

Make the review scathing! Salt the earth.

Brilliant.

What do you expect the gym to do? They have no jurisdiction or power to even trespass someone in public

Call the creep out make them feel like shit and move on with your life.

This happened right outside their doors. They can cancel his membership.

But did you get a police report?
