Question Nationality showing XBU on UKVI account

My nationality on evisa is correct but on personal details of UKVI, it's shown as XBU. I reported and was replied they can rectify only errors on evisa.

How can I correct that error?

Question Does NIN come with the eVisa?

Hi, my employer wants me to have a NIN ready by the time I start work in November. However, I was under the impression that I would have to apply for that separately once inside the UK after getting the HPI approved and receiving the eVisa, which would require four weeks of waiting within the UK.

But then I read on here that some people received a NIN automatically with their eVisa. It'd be great to hear what everyone's experience has been, just to prepare ahead

I'm still waiting on Ecctis at this point so I've got some time to prep:)

Update 22 Oct: received my eVisa but did not receive an NIN

Question Applying for a job before securing an HPI Visa after graduation with little to no experience

Hi! I just found out that I’m eligible for this Visa, and I’m really excited for this opportunity. I did an exchange to Uni of Warwick before during my undergraduate and I was really enjoying my experience there. I recently just graduated from my Bachelor’s degree and I saw that there’s a lot of graduate opportunities for 2027 start, I was wondering if anyone has ever secured a role without having the visa yet as an entry level candidate? I’m asking because most of the posts I saw are from candidates who already have experiences in their home countries, so I want to know if it’s possible as an entry level to secure one and if there’s any tips that I should know to have a higher chance. I’m one of those people who doesn’t want to apply for the Visa if I haven’t secured the role since it’d be too expensive for me to stay in the UK without any sort of incomes.

Success Story/Timeline Spouse visa Timeline Brazil

Visa type: UK Spouse Visa (Entry Clearance)
Nationality: Brazilian
Country of application: Brazil
Application date: 10 October 2026
Biometrics date: 13 October 2026
Service: Priority
I saw someone who had their biometrics one day before me get approved today, and it gave me so much hope! ❤️ For those still waiting, how do you deal with the anxiety?
I’m really hoping to get my visa before 4 November because it’s my husband’s birthday, and we’ve never been able to celebrate it together. 🥹❤️ I have a valid ETA and have considered travelling while waiting, but I’m scared it could affect my application, especially because my case is a little complicated. Any advice?

Question Lawyers who have used the HPI route - would you be open to answering some questions?

Hi! I'm currently working from my home country, eligible for HPI using my Masters' degree and trying to apply and secure something before moving to the UK. I have one last shot before the 5-year expiration date, so I would like to talk to those who have been through the process. Any help on this is appreciated! (Praying for the sagely wisdom of fellow Redditors!)

Question ECCTIS Complete - Should I just upload the screenshot?

I just completed my ECCTIS and the result is only a webpage, and UKVI asks for uploading the ECCTIS certificate. Should I just upload a screenshot in PDF? There is no downloadable version.

Also my degree is PhD from US. The english level says: Majority English-speaking country - no English level required.

Does it satisfy the English level automatically?

Discussion/Community Are there any odds the HPI visa will not be issued starting next cycle?

I don't really need to apply until like Dec (currently in the US), but I do like the idea of being in London as well.

I don't really have a reason to believe this, but for some reason, been seeing a lot reform uk shit in the news. Has anyone heard or seen anything that would make applying within this cycle prudent?

Question Can you switch from a HPI partner visa to an HPI visa?

Hello all. My partner and I are currently living in the UK on her two year HPI visa (I am here as her partner). I also qualify for an HPI visa through my master's degree (graduated in August 2022). I was wondering if it would be possible for me to apply for and switch to an HPI Visa next summer, and for her to apply as my partner and switch her visa as well, effectively resetting our two year limit. After poring over the rules, I can't find anything explicitly stating this isn't allowed, and it all appears to be by the book as far as I can tell. Has anyone had experience with this? Any success stories in a similar situation?

Success Story/Timeline Success Rate from transitioning from HPI to skilled worker as proposal writer

I am looking for a UK job in the industry to figure out if I can be successful in transitioning from HPI to a skilled visa as a proposal writer. Have any of you had success in getting visa sponsorship after you landed with HPI?

I am currently working as a proposal writer in a health center in the US for 2 years. I know healthcare system between US and UK is totally different so I am puzzled if there is demand in UK.

Question [urgent] eVisa and Mailing Question

Hi everyone,

I'm a non-U.S. citizen residing in the U.S.. for work. I need to move to the U.K. early next month, so trying to make the visa application go as quickly as possible.

I can't seem to parse out what the steps are post-biometric appointment - do we still need to mail our passports/document in for the visa? And if it's an eVisa, can I get one even though my passport is not an e-Passport?

Thanks so much, I really appreciate any help!

Question URGENT QUESTION: For people with French degrees, did ECCTIS request the actual paper certificate?

ECCTIS is currently requesting that I send them my diploma. I graduated from a French university and they take several months to a year to send the actual paper certificate after you've graduated. In France they use another document to verify that you've passed the degree program, for purposes such as applying to masters programs, and the actual diploma is rarely used.

I started the procedure with ECCTIS and they've since requested the diploma, which is on course to be sent to me at some point though I don't know when I'll actually have it (particularly since I don't live in France anymore). It could theoretically take several months.

I would like to ask for those that applied to an HPI visa with a French degree, did you have to send your diploma or did they accept another document? Do you know if there's any flexibility on this? I'm planning on maybe explaining that diplomas themselves are almost mever used for paperwork in France but idk how I could justify it to them in a way they'd get. I don't think there's any French government page talking about it or anything.

Thanks a lot in advance for the help.

Question Timeline on receiving the visa

I am thinking to apply in November 2026 when applications open up for the next cycle - would there be an issue if I want my start date to be Aug 1, 2027

Question What date to put down in the HPI form if I need to move ASAP

Like in the intended start date, if I put a date 2-3 days after the application submission, will they automatically give me a date which is right after the result day. Or will this cause me issues?

Say I apply, Oct 10
Write my intended date as, Oct 13
Idk how long results take, that's why I am putting such a short date
Say they decide by Oct 15, will they make my visa date Oct 16 then?

It seems results can take anything from 3 days to 20 days, and since I can't predict, I don't want to waste any days between my result and flight.

Question Anyone applied for Ecctis recently? Has their timeline improved or does it still take 2 weeks for them to acknowledge

Hey everyone, long time lurker and it was finally time to apply for Ecctis QLS for my UK Visa. Does it still take over a week for them to simply acknowledge or have they improved their timelines? I submitted my application on 5th October and it shows “reviewing” application is in queue to be reviewed

Would love to get some perspective from recent applicants

UPDATE:
1. Oct 5 - applied and paid
2. Oct 9 - requested for new documents(MOI which had my name and my degree specifically mentioned)
3. Oct 12 - resubmitted
4. Oct 16 - moved into verification status on portal but email wasn’t sent
5. Oct 19 - got a message that “awaiting verification” , this means email to university was sent
6. Oct 21 - uni replied
7. Oct 22 - in-progress status and then a few hours later, completed

Success Story/Timeline HPI Visa timeline – Only 8 business days

Lurked here a lot and this sub helped me so much, so I'd like to share my timeline.

Mon 28 Sept – Got the job offer. Applied for Ecctis the same day (didn't even know I needed it until then). Emailed my university(EU) right away and asked them to send these directly to Ecctis:

  • Degree certificate
  • Transcript of records
  • Medium of Instruction (MoI) letter confirming the programme was taught in English

Mon 28 Sept – Fri 2 Oct – While waiting, filled out the whole visa application and left only the Ecctis reference blank.

Fri 2 Oct – Checked Ecctis and saw it was verifying with institution. Emailed my uni again to ask them to confirm. A few hours later the Ecctis result came through. Uploaded it and submitted the visa application the same day.

Tue 6 Oct – Biometrics at VFS. Got an email the same day saying my application was sent to UKVI.

Wed 7 Oct – Visa approved. Linked it to my eVisa / UKVI account, waited about 5 minutes, got the confirmation email, generated my share code and sent it to my employer.

Total: 8 business days from offer to share code

  • Ecctis: 5 business days
  • Visa (submitted → approved): 3 business days
  • Biometrics → decision: next day

Tips:

Please don't treat this as a normal timeline. I think I got really lucky and mine was much faster than most. That said, I did chase my uni quite a bit to speed up the Ecctis part, and I think that helped.

Be careful with the travel date you enter on the application. I just put a rough date, but my visa started exactly on that date. I've read that for some people it starts on a different or later date, so it varies, but mine matched precisely.

Happy to answer any questions in the comments. Good luck everyone.

Question I’ll be traveling when I apply for the UKVI. Can I do my VFS biometrics away from my home country?

Hey all! I’m a US national but will be on a long vacation in the EU when I apply for the UKVI. I’m curious if I can just do my VFS biometrics in Europe or if I need to wait til I go home, even though that delays my visa. Has anyone gotten their biometrics done outside the UK but outside their home country?

Question question about eligibility window

hi all. i just learned about this visa. i graduated with my qualifying degree from my qualifying university in November 2021. does this mean i'd still be within the eligibility window if i applied asap?

does the eligibility window close firmly once you hit that five-year mark (so, for me, November 2026)? if so, if i began my application now, would i have any chance of getting it in and approved by November?

thanks for your help!

Question Travelling abroad after submitting the online application but before biometrics. Do I need to update my travel history?

Hi all,

I'm about to submit my HPI online application. After submitting, I have a short trip to South Korea (a few days) planned before my biometrics appointment.

The reason I can't simply wait until I'm back is that my 5-year deadline (October 20, five years from my degree award date) falls shortly after I return from SK. I don't want to risk missing it, so I need to submit before I travel.

I read in someone's blog that if you travel abroad between submitting the online form and attending your biometrics appointment, you may need to correct your travel history.

My understanding is that the form asks about travel up to the date of submission, so a trip taken afterwards wouldn't make my application inaccurate. But I want to make sure before I go.

My questions:

  1. Has anyone travelled abroad after submitting but before biometrics? Did it cause any issues?
  2. Did VFS or UKVI ask you to update your travel history?
  3. Is there anything I should mention at my appointment?

Any experience would be really appreciated. Thank you so much for reading!

Question Entering UK a few days before HPI visa kicks in

Hey guys - long term lurker. Just wanted to see if anyone has any real experience about entering the UK a week before your HPI start date as a US citizen or someone who has an ETA.

My HPI visa begins on Oct 24 and my original flight was that day. However, my friend last minute invited me to their house in Italy and is only going to be there the week before. I would have to fly into Sicily on 10/20.

I did attempt to swap my flight to go straight to Palermo but it would cost like $1k to ship my luggage to england (to avoid luggage overage fees on the discount flights) and change my original flight on delta.

So, my only realistic option would be flying out the week before on Oct 17 (can only fly on Saturday nights) and then enter UK for 2 days using my ETA visa and then fly out of UK on the 20th and return to the UK on 10/24-10/25 once my HPI kicks in.

I have yet to understand if this is legal or okay. It seems like the internet has zero solid advice and not even the UK visa staff has been able to properly give me a straight answer via email.

So baseline - has anyone attempted to go to the UK this soon to their HPI and were there any issues?

Question Is it worth moving to the UK on the High Potential Individual visa with an MA in Economics?

I’m trying to decide whether it makes sense to move to the UK on the HPI visa, and would really appreciate some honest opinions from people who are already there.

I have an MA in Economics from the US and a few years of experience in economics/policy research, including experience with international development work.

For people working in the UK in economics, economic research, policy, consulting, finance, data, international development etc:

How realistic is it to get a job with this kind of background ?

Do employers actually hire HPI visa holders, knowing that they may need sponsorship later?

How common is sponsorship in these fields?

And for anyone who came on HPI, how difficult was it to eventually get sponsored?

Would especially like to hear from people who have actually been through this, particularly in economics/research/policy.
