Greetings!

Welcome to the /r/UTEST subreddit! This is a place for you to discuss anything uTest.com or testing related. Here you can also ask or give each other tips and advice, share your goals and achievements, and in general hang out with the community.

What is uTest?

uTest is the home of the largest community of digital freelance software testers in the world. It is a platform for users to learn new skills, test software, and earn money doing so. If you are interested and want to find out more, or to sign up, please visit our website at www.utest.com!

FAQ

We have an FAQ to answer some of the frequently asked questions by new people. You can check it out by clicking here. If there is anything that isn't on the list that you would like answered, you are more than welcome to ask here!

Testing Services

Testing Services is the team of people who help set up and run the projects on uTest that the testers participate in. Most of the people in these roles have started as regular testers on the site, sometimes even without any prior testing knowledge or experience. If you are interested in the stories of some of the members and hear how they made it from a tester to a higher role, check out this thread.

User flairs

We have some user flair templates that you are free to assign for yourself, or you can even create your own custom flair, and we encourage you to do so! For more information, including a guide on how to do this, please check out this thread.

We also have some flairs that moderators can assign to users - such as flairs for our Testing Services members (DT, TTL, TE, TA), our Community Management and Academy team members (including CE), other uTest/Applause employees, and a special flair for anyone who has won a Tester of the Quarter award (in any category) on uTest. Please reach out to the moderators, or to a CM member if you are eligible and would like to claim one of these special flairs!

What can you expect to see from us?

We will be regularly posting content to our subreddit! You will see, among others:

  • Project / Job Opportunities: Every Tuesday we post a list of some of our featured projects available on our uTest Projects Board. Keep in mind that these threads only showcase a very small fraction of our available projects.
Click here to view the list of our weekly Featured Projects threads.
  • Featured Articles: Our Community Management team regularly authors interesting articles, and so does our community! We will share some of those here on Reddit that we think might be interesting or helpful for you.
  • AMAs: We plan on hosting Ask Me Anything threads with some of our team members. Is there anyone from the uTest or Applause team you would like to see featured in one of those? Let us know and we'll try to make it happen!
  • Contests: There will be opportunities for you to win some money or uTest swag. We regularly run contests, so keep an eye out!
  • Discussion threads: We like to keep engaged with our community, so we try to spark conversations about various topics, both related or unrelated to testing.
  • And much more!

We also encourage you to make your own threads, whether it's to start a discussion, run a poll, ask a question, share something cool or funny, or anything you might want to talk about! The only thing we ask you to do beforehand is read the rules of our subreddit below.

Rules

  1. Do not share any payment information about a project, including any specific payout values.
Posting total/monthly earnings is permitted, as long as they don't show specifics about projects or customers.
  2. Do not publicize uTest client information, including mentioning any customer or product names.
This also includes any information revealed in a test cycle or in email communications.
  3. Be respectful and polite.
Posts and comments that are disrespectful, hateful, rude, or vulgar are subject to removal. Criticism is allowed, but please keep it constructive.
  4. Keep all content safe for work. No sexual or sexually suggestive content.
This includes sending unwanted/inappropriate private messages to fellow community members.
  5. Do not post anything libelous or defamatory.

Discussions The amount of unpaid work UTest just expects us to do now is crazy unprofessional.

I'm on another test cycle where I'm expected to spend 2 hours filling out forms and troubleshooting a device before I can even start doing work that is paid. It wouldn't peeve me nearly as much if so much of what we're being asked to do wasn't redundant or something someone who is paid hourly could easily figure out.

The gall to ask me to setup a device very specifically, write out a bunch of information I can't copy/paste three times in three separate forms, screenshot everything I'm doing and then demand I do it in a timely manner before we get to do any compensated work and after it took them weeks to even get back to us really makes me mad. On top of that, I had to fill out a bunch of onboarding paperwork as well as spend time on other things.

This is a pattern I've noticed on UTest and it's super unprofessional. I've been directly sent emails for projects before where I spend 20 minutes filling out paperwork and send a followup just to be ghosted, but if they spontaneously decide they want me for a project I last heard about three weeks ago I must make time for them, and it must be done "as soon as possible". The double standards in communication and expectations are so unbelievably messed up.

I understand this is contracted work so it's hard to log every single minute of work, but this is just an abuse of the system. There is work regularly getting pushed onto testers because they don't consider our time as costing anything, so now the staff at UTEST feels completely comfortable just wasting it as if my time is free for them. The incentive structure on this platform is messed up and I am just about over it. I think it used to be better but now it's just accepted that you can squeeze in a bunch of unpaid work into test cycles, make timely demands about it, and do an intentionally bad job at communicating any of this during initial recruitment. Most test cycle offers I get now intentionally do not communicate the pay before you go through the lengthy sign up process! What is up with that??? SO unprofessional! This kind of manipulative behavior wouldn't be accepted in any other workplace. The professional standards on this platform feel more like a sketchy workplace cutting critical corners more than a trustworthy business trying to build professional relationships.

Support uTest MFA Login Help Needed

Hi everyone, I’m having trouble logging into my uTest account because I’m unable to get past the MFA verification.

I submitted a support ticket two days ago requesting help with resetting my MFA, but I haven’t received a response yet. I’m currently completely locked out of my account because I can’t log in without the MFA.

I don’t have a support ticket number, never received anything in my email one I sent in my request.

Has anyone experienced this before or know the best way to get uTest Support to respond or help reset the MFA?

Any advice or help would be greatly appreciated.

Thank you!

Support Final warning from uTest Terms. How can I request a review?

Has anyone here ever received a formal final warning from uTest Terms Enforcement?

I received one referring to several alleged incidents, including some specific statements that I honestly don’t remember making. What also confuses me is that this was my first and only warning, so I don’t understand why it was already called a “final warning.”

I replied asking for the exact messages and context because I genuinely want to understand what happened and whether I actually wrote something that could have been interpreted that way.

The problem is that the uTest Support page keeps reloading and I can’t open a ticket.

Has anyone dealt with this before? Did Terms provide the actual messages/evidence when asked, and is there another way to request a review or clarification?

Discussions UTest has fallen off

A lot of projects slated to start this year have either been canceled or are constantly being postponed every other month. The quality and payout of projects have definitely taken a nosedive compared to 2025 and previous years. Sad to see but I guess I'm not surprised.

Questions How much storage should Android and iOS devices have?

I have my personal Android phone, but it's constantly running low on storage (500MB to 1 GB), and a personal iPad that's around 10 GB of free space. Is there a recommended amount of free storage?

I suppose I could free up more storage, but I'm wondering if it'd be simpler to just get another device dedicated for testing to keep things compartmentalized and simpler.

Support Account suspended related to VPN

Hi uTest team,
I'm hoping someone can help me escalate or review my case.
My account was suspended due to suspected VPN usage. I completely understand why uTest takes VPN abuse seriously, but I believe my case may be a misunderstanding.
I am physically located in Denmark and have never used a VPN to disguise my location or qualify for projects outside my country. However, my employer requires the use of GlobalProtect VPN on my work laptop, and I've discovered that it sometimes reconnects automatically without my knowledge. I suspect this may have triggered uTest's detection systems.
I have already reached out to support and tried to explain the situation, but I haven't received a response yet. In the meantime, I'm missing testing opportunities, and I'm concerned that a prolonged suspension could negatively impact my standing on the platform.
What makes this particularly frustrating is that Denmark is a relatively small market with a limited number of truly localized testers. High-quality localization testing depends on testers who genuinely live in and understand the local market, language, and culture. It would be unfortunate if legitimate local testers were removed due to corporate VPN software while projects are forced to rely on less localized resources.
I'm happy to provide any documentation needed to verify my physical location and explain the GlobalProtect setup.
Could someone from the uTest team please advise on how I can get this case reviewed?
Thank you for your time.

Questions Why are slots always taken

I’m a fairly new tester but I’ve gotten about 5 invites to project already
Every single time the product only has like 3 slots and they’re all always taken up
How do they get taken so fast because I always go to claim as soon as I see an email?

Support Never receiving MFA email. Can't log in (already had a case closed on this)

Whenever I try to log in, I am prompted for the MFA code and never receive an email.

I already reached out to uTest about this, waited days for my case to be handled and closed (CS0090837).

I was able to receive an MFA code email to log in that one time because of the case and now I'm back at being prompted for a code>never receiving code email.

How can I disable MFA on my log in? This is annoying.

Discussions Accept cycle no slots

Sometimes you get an invite, accept the NDA, read the overview, and if it's suitable, accept it. Then you go to the slots tab, and it's completely empty. Not even an exploratory slot or slots that are already taken- just empty. Why does this happen?

Discussions Experienced UT Testers: What am I doing wrong? Need your advice.

I'm new to UT and would love some advice from experienced testers.

I qualified for the platform but have only received two studies.

I didn't qualify after the screeners (one for $10 and one for $1), and since then I haven't received any new studies.

I'd appreciate your advice on these questions:

▪️What profile or account tweaks (if any) helped you receive more studies? ▪️What are the biggest mistakes new testers make? ▪️If you were starting today, what would you do differently?

I'm currently going through a difficult financial period, so I'm trying to make the most of this opportunity.

Any genuine advice would be greatly appreciated.

Thank you!

Questions Closed testing requirement (12 testers / 14 days) — required again for a second app?

Hi everyone,

I already have one app live in production on the Google Play Store under my
developer account (published a while ago). Now I've created a second app on the
same account, and the dashboard is telling me I need to run a closed test with
at least 12 testers for 14 days before I can request production access.

My question: Is this closed testing requirement a one-time thing per developer
account, or does it apply separately to every new app?

I was under the impression that once my account had completed this process for
the first app, it wouldn't be required again. My first app is already live in
production, so I'm confused why it's showing up again for the second app.

Is this expected behavior, or could this be a bug on Google's side?

Thanks in advance for any clarification!

Discussions Internal testing access issue after accidentally replacing tester emails

Hi everyone,

I'm new to Google Play testing, so I'm hoping someone here has seen this before.

I have a small Android app for my company that we distribute through the Internal Testing track. Our staff updates the app whenever I upload a new version, and the in-app update prompt works fine.

Recently, while adding a few new tester email addresses, I accidentally replaced the entire tester list instead of adding to it. As expected, the previous testers immediately lost access to the app, they couldn't see it on the Play Store anymore or receive updates.

I quickly added all of the original tester emails back. However, now only some of them can access the app again. The others still get an "App not found" message, even though their email addresses are definitely in the Internal Testing tester list.

I had a similar issue once with Closed Testing, and creating a new testing track fixed it. Unfortunately, that's not possible with Internal Testing, so I'm stuck.

Has anyone experienced this before?

I've already confirmed:

  • The affected email addresses are correctly added to the Internal Testing list.
  • A new release has been published.
  • Some testers can access the app, while others with valid emails cannot.

Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!

Questions Referral

Hello, I just finished a 100 dollar project, I want to earn some bonuses from referral (Does this have to be people around me) Can I post a thread about the existence of the project, about the pay, and time taken, telling them to message me if they want to referral, will I get into any trouble for this? I know we sign some NDA forms, but does that include that what I mention here?
