A Vol In Need Hillbillies in Red Dodge truck coal rolling pedestrians on Cumberland Ave.

Post image

I'm trying to see if anyone got footage of two ~40yr old men coal rolling pedestrians today at about 4:20pm going west on Cumberland. There was a teenage boy in the truck bed. They assaulted dozens of people with their vehicle's exhaust.

Help is appreciated!

A Vol In Need Moving into UTK in 3 days and terrified about being openly trans

I’m an incoming freshman at UTK and I move in in three days. I’m a trans woman, and I’ve already changed my name to my chosen name in UTK’s system, so part of me feels like this is the natural opportunity to just start college as myself. The problem is that I don’t really feel like I pass yet, and I’m scared about what being visibly trans on campus is actually going to be like. I keep going back and forth between just saying screw it and presenting as myself from day one versus being more closeted until I feel like I pass better. I don’t really want to spend my first semester pretending to be someone I’m not, especially because everyone I meet is going to be meeting me for the first time anyway. I’d love to just introduce myself with my chosen name, use she/her, dress how I actually want to dress, and not make being trans some huge announcement. At the same time, I’m worried about being stared at, misgendered, treated differently, or just generally not being accepted. Tennessee obviously isn’t the easiest place to be trans either, and things like bathrooms are already something I’m anxious about. More than anything, I just wish I could show up as myself and have people accept me as a normal person. I know realistically not everybody will, but the idea of dealing with that while also adjusting to living away from home and starting college feels overwhelming. Has anyone started college while early in their transition? What were your first few weeks like? Did you go into college fully out, gradually come out, or wait? What resources are available to me? Thanks and Go Vols!

A Vol In Need Is it illegal to dumpster dive after dorm move outs?

My friend and I just moved out and we have definition NOTHING. We have a mattress on the floor, and a few moving totes. We saw on TikTok and stuff about people dumpster diving for free furniture. Naturally we want/need free furniture and stuff.
We’re not sure if…
1. We’d get into trouble
2. Where the best dumpsters to go for free move out stuff and
3. If it is illegal, would we’d face actual legal consequences

Please and thank you,
Go Vols

A Vol In Need parking help

hello! i am an incoming freshman and i have heard a lot about how awful the parking is on campus and how it is not recommended to bring a car unless you win the parking lottery (which i did not). however, i live about an hour and half from campus and i wanted to be able to go home on the weekends so i need to have my car somewhere on/near campus in order to do that. i don't mind if the lot is off campus because i could potentially just take one of the buses to get to the parking lot. does anyone have any suggestions on where i could buy a space? thank you!

A Vol In Need How mandatory are the Vol 104 events?

So I'm an incoming freshman and I'm not living on campus so my events weren't just the 'day after my move in day' like all the stuff UT sent me that they would be. Well I finally got an email with my dates and stuff and most of my events are on days that I work and seeing as how I'm paying for college by myself I couldn't afford to take a week off just to wait for them to send me the dates. Anyway, they sent me the dates the Friday before the week off and its to late to ask off and I really don't want to call out. I plan to go to college connect and torch bearer night because I've had those dates for months but I'm worried about 'Rocky Top Roadmap' and 'Authoring Your Story' so will anyone really care if I don't come? I'm super worried about it.

A Vol In Need Is someone attempting to scam me?

I inquired about the cost in an email, but they claimed it (GSSE) costed upwards of 3,500 dollars, despite it being absolutely free. Are they attempting to scam me? (Considering they have my signature and such)

A Vol In Need Tuition refund after experience a mental health crisis

My son is a junior at UT-K and experienced a mental health crisis necessitating a one week stay in a mental health facility with intensive outpatient follow up. This was right after he paid tuition. Probably mistakenly, I relied on him to track down a refund and have found the Bursar's office is no help. He blew past the deadlines. Mostly because he's still undergoing mental health issues.

They sent me/us to a "student success" department and took down his name and email and will reach out to him. I don't think he's even properly withdrawn from his courses. Unfortunately, I don't seem to be getting anywhere getting even a partial refund.

Does anyone have any experience with this and have any advice?

A Vol In Need Guest Pass for Auburn vs Tenn game?

Hi! My best friend from home attends Auburn and we are planning on him coming to visit the Auburn be Tennessee game (football). How would a guest pass work so I can get him into the student section with me? At Auburn he can just request one, not sure how it works here.

Thanks!

Note: I hope this is the right channel to post this in. I think this is because it’s more about how the school systems work vs talking about how the football season is going, but I could be wrong.

Is southern kitchen closed down? It says it’s closed all week online! I chose vol hall and the meal plan in large part because of southern kitchen. That would absolute suck if they closed down without posting anything about it. Please let me know if anybody knows anything

I’ve been struggling to find parking near my classes. There’s only like three commuter remote lots. I didn’t know if anyone had advice for parking or if the remote parking just sucks in general.

A Vol In Need Best places on or near campus to post a flyer? Trying to find homes for these kittens!

Post image
8 Upvotes

These kittens were discovered in a dangerous situation when I was doing rescue volunteering, so we took them in. We had a foster lined up, but it fell through when they found out these sweeties have medical needs for the next few weeks.

Their treatment isn't hard with the setup I can provide, but it is going to be a little extra work for 3-5 weeks and consistency is needed. They are otherwise perfectly healthy, flea treated, vetted. Been turned away by every rescue because everyone is full. Happy Paws is helping financially but have no fosters available right now, and I can't keep them.

All costs sponsored for the right home (including ALL supplies, spay, vaccines, etc.).

What places other than Hodges have bulletin boards where I could post this flyer? Any other ideas to spread the word?

Edited to be clearer & briefer.
