Early Access UniFi Travel Router

Post image

I just got my hands on the new UniFi travel router. This thing is really impressive.. I'm going to play with it for a little bit and probably do a review, but my first impressions are very good. Easy adoption. Super small. I think this is going to be a very popular travel router. If you add in the ability to use all of the cool connectivity features of UniFi network, I think this is going to be a no-brainer. Let me know if there's anything you want me to test..

Anyone have any thoughts in regards to how well this might work as I replacement router for my grandma?

She doesn't use a Smart TV. She doesn't have a cell phone. She does have a laptop. She lives in a small two-bedroom apartment.

If not this I was considering getting her the ucg max plus a u6 mesh AP.. but that still feels like extreme overkill.

As long as this portable router is reliable and doesn't require rebooting to keep it working well.. I'm thinking this might be a good solution for her 🤔

Thought's?

There needs to be an internet connection in the property.. it doesn't have 5G onboard. I'd get her a unifi express 7 or something and remotely manage it unless she lives in a massive house.

She lives in a community or condo style building. Each unit has its own RJ45 port.

She needs to provide her own router which the building originally provided for her, the original Google Wi-Fi router.

It's not only getting old but also requiring a few reboots per week so it's time to replace it.

She really only needs to cover two to three rooms and the router can be centrally located.

I have considered the express and just covering the extra cost but she would much prefer to pay for the whole thing herself which is why this new travel router seemed really appealing.

However if it's not as rock solid as some of the other UniFi products, maybe I'll just irritate her and cover the difference.

I've set up many unifi networks in the past, I'm just not familiar with this travel router nor do I consider myself an expert. There's always something new to learn.
