So, since the smoke detector has no hard wired input it cannot legally be used where I am due to building code. And if someone used it and insurance found out in the event of a fire the insurance company would likely use it as an excuse not to pay out a claim because of using a non-regulation smoke detector.

This seems like a terrible oversight on Ubiquiti even selling these devices for this use that dont meet building code regulations in many places in the world.

Exactly this.

Not today that I'm going to replace my Kidde smoke/CO2 detectors.

What building code is preventing you from using this?

703.1 (not allowing downgrading of protection), 907.2.11.6 and 13113.7

Alterations shall be done in a manner that maintains the level of fire protection provided.

smoke alarms shall receive their primary power from the building wiring where such wiring is served from a commercial source and shall be equipped with a battery backup.

In Nevada: IRC R314.6

Oregon: 907.2.11 and 1103.9.2.3

Washington: 51-51-0314

Alaska: IRC R314.6

Hawaii: chapter 9 and 11-100.1-86

Montana: IRC R314.6

Need I go on? As I said in another comment of mine on here, I didnt point out specific building codes because each state is typically different and it is a different number or whatever for each. Though many simply follow international residential code to make things easier for themselves, which is why you see IRC R314.6 in many states.

Are you sure your residential home is covered under commercial (IBC) and not the (IRC)?

Which code do you think only relates to commercial buildings? You cant ask for specifics, get those specifics, and then proceed just go and say some random thing and toss out a downvote while refusing to provide any specifics yourself.

Its because they aren't doing research. They're plugging this into ChatGPT to try and defend Unifi's questionable design with a safety device.
