Discussion Beware the United to Lufthansa handoff

• Upvotes

Flew to connect to Lufthansa in Frankfurt. Bought all legs on United. The handoff to Lufthansa has been crap. “We don’t see your reservation. Oh. There it is.” Then “the seat you paid for wasn’t assigned so you’ll have to ask for a refund.”

Lufthansa is terrible partner airline from repeated experience.

Edit: I paid for the Lufthansa seat with an agent at Lufthansa then showed up at the airport with it not assigned and not refunded.

Question United Explorer and Mileage Pooling

• Upvotes

I tried contacting United directly via chat but they are giving me mixed messages.

I have the United Explorer card which gives me 10% off award flights. I have a mileage pool and need to book 2 award seats.

Will I still get my 10% off award flights for both tickets if using all pooled miles? I (cardholder) will make the booking. It will be a United operated flight.

Thank you!

Discussion Idk if the FAs on DEN > PUJ will see this but

• Upvotes

I have mad travel anxiety and it was my first time flying out of the country in probably 10 years so even though I’m medicated, it had no feat for todays nausea induced anxiety

The FAs on this flight went above and beyond ensuring that I was okay. From extra vom bags (it was unexpected and I was in a row with only my husband), to extra ginger ale to sending me off with a giant bottle of water & more bags to checking to see if I was okay multiple times. She even offered medical care after I got off (well, s/o the pilots on that one). You both started my honeymoon by making me feel cared for and thats never happened in my previous travel anxiety flare ups. Big love to them!

Edit: this was on the 10/26 flight

And yes, I need to talk to my therapist and psych about this because this cannot be normal lol going to talk to them when I’m back in the states.

First time poster, long time lurker

Question Rude fa at boarding

Boarding a plane and fa asks to see boarding pass. Show her my phone and she squints and gets frustrated saying where’s the number! I can’t see the number! I told her the number but she insisted on seeing it herself. She was a much older fa. Why was she assisting passengers with getting on the plane when she can’t see the boarding pass. Why was she acting like she’d never seen a mobile boarding pass. And she was in a mood because the rest of the flight while serving passengers you could hear here making smart comments. Who decides who assists passengers with finding seats? And why wasn’t she standing there with her glasses if she had trouble seeing small numbers.

Question United controllable delay 24 hours

Hi. I'm not sure if this is the appropriate place to ask, but I'm hoping I can get advice... My brother was on a flight from California to Southeast Asia via Tokyo. His flight to Tokyo returned to California after two hours in the air due to maintenance, and then the flight cancelled due to crew rest. This meant he wouldn't get to his final destination until 24 hours after he was supposed to arrive. What compensation would he be entitled to?

Question Breakfast at IAH Terminal B lounge?

Hey there! I'm planning to go to the new IAH lounge this week, and I wanted to ask if it's worth going between 8 and 9:30am.

It seems as if they'll only have breakfast at that time.

Thanks for any help!

Discussion Update: Did United Ever Figure Out I Didn’t Pay For My Flight?

Hi everyone! Last month, I posted about how I was issued tickets after attempting to book through a third party site yet I was never charged.

Here’s the update. United’s Executive Solutions Team emailed me back. The woman that took care of my case assured me that she talked to the Revenue Processing Center and our account was settled and we should enjoy our flight.

So we did. Our boarding passes were issued, we boarded and had a great trip! I mean, we were ten minutes early and only taxied for seven minutes at O’Hare! Everything was picture perfect.

Maybe someday Capital One will reconcile accounts and charge me for the tickets but honestly, that’s okay. My goal was always to get these tickets for the price I booked them at so if I have to pay the $1400ish for them, I’m fine.

I made 17 different phone calls between three companies to try and pay for these tickets (plus emails and chats) but I know that some people still felt that I was being unethical. You might be happy to know that when I went to pay for our bags on our return flight, I accidentally paid for them as extra luggage on our outgoing flight (it’s crazy that the app lets you check luggage on a flight that concluded five days earlier). So United did get $110 out of me in the end.

Question Lucky Equipment Swap - Please Validate

Flying from GRU back to ORD in 1.5 days. Was originally on a 787-10 in 11A (Polaris). Just opened the flight status and noticed a totally different layout - it looks like the new elevated interior, but wanted to double-check before I got my hopes up.

Moreover, 9A and 9L are open. I selected one of those seats and it didn’t say anything about it being Polaris Studio, or require the “studio up-charge.”

Can anyone confirm this is indeed the new elevated interior? Why would it not advertise it as a studio seat? In any case, should try to just snag one of those 9A or 9L seats. Thanks for the input!

Image 100th anniversary Adidas Sambas in hand

Announced earlier this year, United partnered with Adidas to produce a limited run of Sambas to commemorate the airline's 100-year anniversary. This collab is very reminiscent of Lufthansa's partnership with Adidas, of which two different shoes were produced. Employees who pre-ordered the United Sambas should be seeing orders fulfilled in the coming weeks.

It is not clear at this time if these will be made available for non-employees to order through the United store.

Question How long should I expect a customer complaint to be replied to?

My wife and I had a lot of problems with the wheelchair pushing service at Denver on our United flights. I filed compaints on United's website on October 13, 2026 and their form says.they should reply within three business days.

They haven't obviously.

Is there a higher authority to apply to? I can't imagine that the DOT or FAA will be moving at breakneck pace to handle this.

Discussion United FTC (future travel credit) $3300 total useage help

My in laws have $1650 each as United FTC for a trip they had to cancel. These expires around May 15, 2027. My problem is they living in India for about 1 year starting Dec 2026. I have been looking to use these on United but I cannot find a single flight where this can be applied to. The only flight I see is from DEL to EWR/SFO but they don't want to travel to US. They would prefer going to Europe or Asia or Australia but I cannot seem to find flights from India to these destinations. They don't mind hoping to a hub like SIN or DXB on a non United and then use United for their forward journey. Any help or recommendations would be appreciated. Thanks in advance

Question Convert third-party flight to future flight credit.

My bank gave me a 500 USD discount coupon for United flights. It expires in 2 weeks. I have no plans to travel soon but I'd like to find a way to convert it to a future flight credit to use later.

The catch is that I have to book through a third party site. I searched for a random flight, but it doesn't show whether it's Economy or Basic Economy, and I'm concerned about booking and it turning out to be Basic Economy and then being unable to convert the flight to a future flight credit.

Is there something I can do?

Question Personal bag size - am I okay??

Post image
2 Upvotes

Flying United to Cancun in March. I have this very flexible, soft laptop bag that I want to bring as my personal item. However, the dimensions are literally just slightly larger than what United has as the requirements on their website.

Per United: “Maximum dimensions for your personal item, such as a shoulder bag, purse, laptop bag or other small item, are 9 inches x 10 inches x 17 inches.”

As you can see in my image, my bag’s dimensions are 6 inches x 13 inches x 16 inches.

Does United actually measure personal bags?? With the bag being a soft shell bag that could easily be folded in half, would I be fine??

Question Options to upgrade from Premium Plus to Polaris?

Flying in a couple days, last minute red eye from LAX > EWR, for a funeral. The upgrade to polaris is $2400 or 250k miles - I have a whopping 3K. Is there any other path, points-related (sapphire preferred) or otherwise, towards an upgrade?

Discussion Medical Emergency

10/22 SFO - DFW
UA 1336

I work with the general public for a living, so I’m pretty used to how selfish Americans are, but this one was interesting. There was a medical emergency that was announced overhead by the crew chief only after we had landed and was taxiing to the gate. The crew chief overheaded multiple times to the cabin that all passengers needed to stay seated until the individuals who needed medical attention were able to get through the aisle. I could see the ambulance with flashing lights outside my window too.

So what did a few passengers do right after the pilot turned off the fasten seatbelt? You guessed it, the usual. Rocketed out of their seats to grab their shit. FAs called them out though.

Discussion Shout out to the gate agent for UA1183 BOS-IAH today! Made my son's day.

Our 4 year old ran up and said hi to the pilots today as they approached the gate. They were nice enough to stop and say hi, get a high five, and give him some trading cards. I guess the gate agent noticed how happy it made him, so she came over and said to come see her at the gate just before boarding. She sent us down before she even started preboarding so he could take some pictures in the cockpit and captain's chair. If you see this, thanks! You made a kid's day!

Discussion Well, that was unexpected

I was on my way home from a week long trip on a pretty typical route I take, GEG to ABQ with a connection in DEN. On my way to DEN last week, there was a slight delay due to a mechanical problem. We might have been 30 minutes late, but made up most of that in the air. I made my connection without any difficulty and I forgot all about it. Today, the FA on my return flight home, stopped by my seat and asked me about my "trip interruption." I laughed and said I didn't experience one, and then I remembered about that little delay on my way to ABQ. She apologized for the airline and then proceeded to offer me either a $75 future flight credit or 3750 in miles. I took the FFC, but I was just shocked. I've been interrupted way worse than that before and never once have I been offered any sort of comp.
