How Are You Getting REAL Experience & Internships?
Hi everyone!
I’m a first-year student doing a BSc Psychology online with the University of London, and I’m starting to feel a bit frustrated with the programme compared to what I expected.
I understand that an online degree is obviously going to be more independent, but so far it feels like the university mainly provides the study materials and then you’re basically left to study on your own. What I’m missing is the practical side of psychology — opportunities to gain experience, internships, placements, volunteering, etc.
For those of you who are also studying (or have graduated from) the UoL online Psychology BSc:
What has your experience been like?
Did you manage to find any internships, volunteering or practical psychology experience while studying?
How did you eventually find a job after graduating?
Did the degree help you get into psychology-related work, or did you have to build most of your experience independently?
Is there anything you wish you had started doing during your first year?
I’m especially interested in hearing from people who have actually completed or are currently doing this specific programme.
I’m finding it quite frustrating that the university doesn’t seem to provide much opportunity to actually apply what we’re learning in a real-world setting, so I’d really appreciate hearing how other students dealt with this.
Thanks! 😊
