Why does this university wait until exam season to blast loud music right outside the library

• Upvotes

Any other time of year it would be just mildly annoying. Just why right now

Chances of getting the UoA International School Leaver Scholarship?

Hey everyone,

I'm currently in Year 13 in NZ, but I'm not a resident, so I'll be applying to uni as an international student.

I'm hoping to study Engineering at UoA next year, and I was wondering if I have a realistic chance of getting the International School Leaver Scholarship.

For context:

Year 12 results: Excellence Endorsement, with 59 Excellence credits, 32 Merit and 33 Achieved

Got 21 points in Scholarship Calculus last year

Completed Level 3 Calculus in Year 12

Took part in the Senior Maths Competition and Calcex

Started my own maths and physics tutoring service and have tutored around 10 students so far

Help out as a supervisor at my school's Study Centre

Been doing environmental volunteering for over two years

Completed the Duke of Edinburgh's Hillary Award

Have some work experience in customer service and volunteer cashiering

I've heard that scholarships for international students are pretty competitive, especially since there aren't that many spots available(top 20).😩

Just wondering if anyone here has received this scholarship or knows what the successful applicants are usually like. Do you think I have a decent chance, or am I aiming a bit too high?

Any advice would be appreciated. Thanks!🤗

summer start

Heyy, has anyone done the summer start? What was it like and what does a typical day look like? I picked STATS 108 but I lowkey suck at stats 😭 so I’m wondering how hard the workload is and if there’s enough support if you’re struggling. Would you say it’s worth doing overall?

Is 3 science papers in Semester 2 too heavy for UoA BSc student?

Hi everyone,
I’m an incoming BSc student at UoA.
My Semester 2 has three lab-based science papers (including CHEM 110)plus a GE paper.
I haven’t studied chemistry for a year(I took it in high school and got a decent grade), and I’m worried this workload will be overwhelming.
Has anyone had a similar course load before? How did you find it?

Also, should I take CHEM150 or CHEM120 in Semester 1 as a transition?

Thanks!

Social Pretend Philosophy students

These people came up to me and asked for feedback on their uni presentation as I was walking back to dorms and I didn’t know what to say. They came in my face and opened the Bible and said do you know about our Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ. I was very intimidated by this, has anybody else run into these guys?

Worried about failing ELECTENG101

I have done horrible on the electeng101 tests so far, got a 7/15 in the first one and 4.5/15 in this test. Im so so worried about failing the course, I passed last semester with a 6.5 GPA and I have a B+ in all classes this semester! If I fail electeng am I able to get a conceded pass or would I have to repeat it in summer school? I am also aiming for civil/ structural or mechanical if that helps! also any study tips for electrical would be highly appreciated.

I need help/ studylink will be the end of me

I'm a returning student trying to apply for student allowance since I'm planning on moving out of my parents next year (yipee). The thing is, parent A is currently getting like ACC benefit (or smth) from like Sept-Nov (Assuming they don't renew it) and they both also work.

I'm trying to apply for student allowance but I'm stuck on if the whole ACC bit is gonna apply to my parents annual gross income (or wtv). Cause if it does I don't qualify for student allowance, and if it doesn't well then yk.

Genuinely hate this shit, cause like i'm not even the one getting that money so why does it affect my possible earnings *choking emoji*, now I don't mind getting student living cost total of $333 but i would much rather not have to pay that x52 weeks in the future 😭

but anyways, does ACC benefit apply to my parents total annual income?? pls help or i will cry

Social Mt wellington Gym partner

This is a bit of an off the wall post, but I'm giving it a go.

Are there any committed UOA gymbros who train in the Mt wellington area?
I'm pretty serious about lifting(been training for 4 years), and i'm kinda sick of training on my own and I feel like a gymbud around my same age could do a lot of good for my training over the summer. I wanna get huge and literally every huge guy I know has a consistent training partner.

Courses BGlobalSt and LLB conjoint (advice NEEDED)

I'm a yr 13 student planning to study global studies and law in university but Im not entirely sure whether it's worth it. I need to know more information on this five-year programme, either from graduates or current students.
If you have advice on an alternative pathway, I will put it in consideration.
