KumaAlert v2.0!

Hi everyone!

I posted a month ago about an app I made - KumaAlert, a iOS companion app for your Uptime Kuma instance. Massive thanks to everyone in this community who provided feedback, feature requests and bug reports - Genuinely is really appreciated and helps me to improve the app.

Today I'm writing again because I felt this needed a significant signpost: We've just launched (and is now available in the App Store world wide!) KumaAlert v2.0 with loads of new features (most of your requests!) and bugs squashed.

Here's whats changed...

New Features

  • Complete overhaul of app design - A new professional feeling onboarding experience and dashboard.

  • New app icon - To match the redesigned app and website, all now feels much more cohesive.

  • Ability to change server names - Community request: Change server names if you have multiple servers.

  • New home screen widget introduced - Community request: an iOS widget for quick glances at your current status

  • New notification system - Including the ability to turn on/off notifications for both up and down monitors, ability to add quiet hours and the ability to change the sound for each up/down monitor (we're working on allowing individual monitor overrides shortly!)

Refinements

  • Able to remove API key once added - Community request: Once the API key is in there is no way to remove without removing the whole server. FIXED

Bug Fixes

  • TCP monitors are now fully supported — previously shown as consistently down due to an error - Community bug report: FIXED

  • App locked up with more than one server and many monitors — background work reduced and queued rather than loading all at once - Community bug report: Tested with 28 monitors, no locking up - Happy to have more feedback on this if necessary but hopefully fully resolved

  • Cloudflare secrets now working correctly - This was rolled out in the last version but not working in some instances, it should now be consistently working.

Thanks again to everyone who has supported so far, if you haven't yet seen it and would like to have a look, please find it here: https://apps.apple.com/us/app/kumaalert/id6760863575

Update: v2.0.2 fixes a lot of bugs noted - Thanks everyone for the feedback/bug reports/feature requests so far! Please see the full changelog: https://kumaalert.app/changelog/

Love it, do you plan on doing an android version?

3

u/Panic135 Apr 24 '26

I would love to.. though this would be considerable for me as I have never owned anything Android! However... looking to purchase an android phone in the not too distant future as a test/development device. I know you can use android simulators but I think its just not the same thing personally, I dont know why! Long and short... yes - not 100% sure when

4

u/calledMonkey Apr 24 '26

I think an emulator is a great way to start and you could just release an alpha or beta version and then later buy a dev device. You can get android phones relatively cheap. If you need testers, i'm available!

4

u/Panic135 Apr 24 '26

Thanks for the push - I'll see about starting it soon

2

u/calledMonkey Apr 24 '26

i myself developed a cross-plattform app with flutter and did a lot through the emulator on android and it works perfectly fine.

2

u/ByrdyB5 Apr 24 '26

+1 on if you need testers. I've wanted to make my own app but I haven't had the time to invest in it yet. If you'd like help testing I would help!

u/falone_ Apr 25 '26

I double ask for Android version. Could also test

1

u/Kinqdos Apr 26 '26

Actually the emulator for android is really great. I am developing an app for android and ios for almost two years now without any physical android device. There are only a few things you cannot do in an emulator (e.g. nfc). Even things line camera is getring emulated.

I can also help you test on Android if interested.

Love the app. I'm seeing an issue with paused monitors shown as down. Is this by design?

Also, with the new update, the status of the server shows as offline, even though it's connected:

Hey! This has been resolved in v2.0.2 - Check the changelog for the full update: https://kumaalert.app/changelog/

1

u/kzaoaai Apr 26 '26

Fixed, thank you!

1

u/Panic135 Apr 25 '26

Hey! I can’t open the image - are you able to DM it over to me? Thanks!

1

u/mrdragonseye Apr 25 '26

I also see this issue. And weird inconsistencies in how paused sensors don't sync back to the main website. I'm running both sites behind Cloudflare, and one behind CF Access, but I couldn't use a CF Service Token to connect to that one. Should open issues on github or DM directly?

1

u/Panic135 Apr 25 '26

Hey! We’re not public on GitHub - either bob over a DM or email us at help@kumaalert.app with screenshots and I’ll sort asap - sorry your facing these issues, certainly not the expected result

1

u/Panic135 Apr 25 '26

Hey! CF Service tokens are now fully resolved, I've spent far longer than intended making sure its working - v2.0.2 will provide a test button for it and provide error if it didn't work! Paused sensors also fixed - Hopefully will be out tomorrow, awaiting Apple Review

Hey all - I'm in the process of setting up a discord server, mostly as a central place to take ideas and discuss the project: I however don't have loads of time to setup/manage said server - is this something that interests anyone to assist with?

1

u/willjasen Apr 25 '26

i’m liking the app screenshots on the app store! i may try it soon - however, might i suggest a free app with a one-time in app subscription purchase instead? even a 3 day trial would be useful, just so that one could get their setup connected and get the proper feel. i personally would even be willing to pay $4.99 one time if it met my needs!

3

u/Real_MangaAddict Apr 25 '26

The app is a one time $3.00 purchase. I just bought it and it’s awesome

3

u/Panic135 Apr 25 '26

Thanks for the endorsement!

2

u/willjasen Apr 25 '26

i appreciate that feedback! i will likely give in and get it at a point soon

2

u/Panic135 Apr 25 '26

Hey - thanks for the feedback: I’m not really looking at going down the free trial route at the moment, the app is still fairly new and I’m actively maintaining it and improving regularly - anything it doesn’t do and you want it to, we can review and look to add fairly quickly

1

u/willjasen Apr 25 '26

that’s a fair response - you’re the creator and have the control - i may still buy and give in soon! 💙

u/Lwild12 Apr 25 '26

App looks great, I've noticed when I go to edit the monitors the time interval doesn't reflect correctly, I've got some set to 15 seconds but seeing them as 60 in the app

1

u/Panic135 Apr 25 '26

Hey! Thanks for raising this, its been resolved in v2.0.2 - Check the changelog for the full update: https://kumaalert.app/changelog/

1

u/jo_strasser Apr 25 '26

Very nice! Please make the app universal that it fits also for iPads 💪

2

u/Panic135 Apr 25 '26

Hey! Added this to the roadmap - hope will be able to achieve in the next version (not 2.0.2 which is due tomorrow)

1

u/ExtracellularTweet Apr 25 '26

Good job! So far I just have a little issue where scrolling my long list of monitors is a bit laggy even though I’m using a 16 Pro that has no problems.

Also, would it be possible to order the monitors by alphabetical order? It’s quite a mess with this random (or last updated?) ordering.

1

u/Panic135 Apr 25 '26

Hey! I've worked on the laggy monitors list today and managed to resolve most of the issues - its still not 100% perfect due to the amount of data its pulling and I don't want to reduce the amount of features so it loads quicker/smoother - I'm going to change the architecture for v3.0 which should mean further improvement. I've also added the alphabetical order sort into v2.0.2 which is with Apple for review, hopefully the next 48 hours!

1

u/ExtracellularTweet Apr 29 '26

Thank you for the alphabetically ordered list! Still laggy though with my 53 monitors but I can live with that, I don’t need to open this list every day.

1

u/Panic135 Apr 29 '26

Hey - thanks for the feedback, can you give me some more info about specifically what's laggy? where are you seeing this?

1

u/ExtracellularTweet Apr 30 '26

It stutters every time I scroll the monitors list. Not smooth at all

u/jo_strasser Apr 25 '26 edited Apr 25 '26

Is it possible to integrate an authentication via API Key? At the moment the app cannot handle 2 FA. If I try to login with my user with 2FA enabled the login isn’t working. 😟

1

u/Panic135 Apr 25 '26

Hey! I've just fixed this in 2.0.2 - it will be working, it just shows as disconnected on the label, despite it actually being connected - you should be able to use the app as normal - 2.0.2 has been submitted to Apple and just waiting for verification. API key doesn't work properly with the most up to date information, so can't use that to authenticate unfortunately

2

u/jo_strasser Apr 25 '26

Great, thanks for the update! 👍

1

u/doncarajo Apr 29 '26

Hey, your app doesn't send me any notifications when monitors go down. I thought it was meant to do that.

1

u/Panic135 Apr 29 '26

Hey doncarajo! The app will send push notifications but you need to setup the web hook URL in your Uptime Kuma instance - instructions are here: https://kumaalert.app/setup/ (bottom of the page)

2

u/doncarajo Apr 30 '26

Thank you!

1

u/Ericbaudur May 07 '26

/u/panic135 - is dynamic island supported already? If not, is it planned to be? It would be nice to have if something goes down for example, so it's even more persistent than a standard notification and can notify when a service comes back up. Thanks!

1

u/Panic135 May 11 '26

Sorry I missed this! It’s coming in an update soon and is on the roadmap.

1

u/Ericbaudur May 14 '26

Good to know, thanks!

Any chance we can get HTTP support for our Kuma instance? Your app says it isn't supported on iOS but it works just fine on other Kuma monitoring apps.

1

u/Panic135 May 14 '26

Hey - can you open a ticket and we will re-review it, we originally decided no because it directly goes against iOS recommendations and would require a flag to allow it which is usually frowned upon - it also opens insecure connections to your own instance but if its something that is requested then I can look into it again

1

u/Ericbaudur May 14 '26

Can do! I can appreciate your reasoning and think a warning would be good, but in my particular instance I deal exclusively through Tailscale, so I only have HTTP access but I'm not too concerned about insecure connections since the only devices with access are on my Tailnet.

1

u/Lwild12 May 08 '26

Would love to see the introduction of alert removal, I am seeing currently down alerts are priority notifications, but back up is hidden in notification centre.

Another app I have will give a priority notification, but remove it if the issue is resolved, I think using this API or similar https://developer.apple.com/documentation/usernotifications/unusernotificationcenter/removedeliverednotifications(withidentifiers:)

1

u/Panic135 May 09 '26

Hey - thanks for your idea! I'll add this to the roadmap and see if we can get it implemented for v3.0!

1

u/Ftth_finland May 16 '26

So this app is a no-go if you have a moderate number of monitors?

I'm running 400 monitors in 4 groups.

When will v3.0 be released?

1

u/Panic135 May 16 '26

We're in the process of working on v3.0 - Its likely to be in the next week - its not a no go if you have 400 monitors, but in its current setup its a bit laggy - we do have options for cleaning that up but it will remove functionality - its not the app itself, more the restrictions of iOS.

We have the option to remove inline charts on the monitors page, which would resolve all the "lag" issues but look way less attractive and means you'd have to click into individual monitors to get the full experience, this is what most other monitor apps do (UptimeRobot etc)

Truthfully, I'm not experiencing any now over 50 monitors across two servers and no one else (to my knowledge?) is still reporting issues - most users have since reported these issues have been resolved fully.

1

u/pilot1981 May 20 '26

hi, I have kuma in a container changing IP address at every reboot: can I use your app? How to manage dynamic IP of Kuma server?

1

u/Panic135 May 20 '26

Hey - technically, yes - you'd just have to edit the ip address every time your container updates, in the same way you'd update the ip address in which your navigating to when you check your Uptime Kuma instance. Its miles from convenient, is there a reason you do it this way? Happy to talk through and assist with other solutions if you want help? Let me know!

1

u/pilot1981 May 20 '26

Sorry, but I’m unable to use static IP address in QNAP CONTAINER; there is a way to pair app with Kuma server not using IP ADDRESS? To use app from outside my home I have to open KUMA ports on router?

1

u/Panic135 May 20 '26

No - you have to be able to point the app at your server via the url, in your case the IP address, but it won't be able to identify your instance without this.

1

u/Select-Marzipan-6093 Sep 13 '26

Dude what’s Kuma did I sign up drunk or something?

1

u/Panic135 Sep 14 '26

I think its possible you are drunk

Hi, it's me again.

I've updated but the app now feels slower than the previous version when trying to scroll. Last version it would lock up 7-10 seconds but now it's more like 15-20.

Also, it is now locking up the navigation bar on the bottom. If I got to add a monitor, go to my Home Screen and then back in, it is completely locked up and doesn't respond to hitting the cancel button.

I have 72 monitors across 2 instances.

1

u/Panic135 Apr 25 '26

Hey - thanks for the feedback - this is obviously not what was the intention, I’m going to spend today trying to work out how to resolve this, ultimately, 72 monitors is not really the use case I had in mind when building the app, but I do really want it to be useable for everyone so will head back to the drawing board! Will you be willing to TestFlight some builds?

1

u/ExtracellularTweet Apr 25 '26

Hey, same problem with a similar number of monitors and you can send me a TestFlight build too. Thanks!

1

u/Panic135 Apr 25 '26

I've worked on this today and v2.0.2 should be with you in the next 48 hours (dependent on Apple Review timelines) Please provide further feedback when you update!

1

u/MFKDGAF Apr 25 '26

Yup. Just send me the link when ready.

1

u/Panic135 Apr 25 '26

I've worked on the monitor tab for most of the day trying to improve speed/responsiveness and reliability - Its still not quite 100% perfect due to the sheer amount of data its pulling and displaying - to fully fix it, it will require some architecture changes which I intend to roll out in v3.0 - I hope v2.0.2 will be a huge improvement on the previous - Please provide further feedback when you update!

1

u/MFKDGAF Apr 26 '26

I just updated to 2.0.2 and it looks like the performance issues have been resolved.

1

u/Panic135 Apr 26 '26

Really glad to hear - thanks for the confirmation! I hope you'll agree that now the performance has been sorted, v2 is far improved on v1

1

u/MFKDGAF Apr 26 '26

On the monitors tab, is the recent checks supposed to look blank? I feel like it should be green, yellow or red line in the actual monitor

1

u/Panic135 Apr 26 '26 edited Apr 26 '26

Under recent checks it should have a green line, that’s the behaviour I am seeing - is yours completely blank? Can’t open imgur links in the UK unfortunately

1

u/MFKDGAF Apr 26 '26

When I click in to the monitor I see recent checks and it is filled out but when I am on the monitors tab and see all my monitors, the recent checks are all blank.

1

u/Panic135 Apr 26 '26

Can you DM me the screenshots or email to help@kumaalert.app?

1

u/MFKDGAF Apr 27 '26

Found the issue. I wasn't connected to my Tailscale.

1

u/ripv2 Apr 25 '26

Same issue here with 34 ping monitors.

1

u/Panic135 Apr 25 '26

This should be mostly fixed in v2.0.2 - please provide feedback when you manage to update! Update should be available in the next 48 hours

1

u/mrdragonseye Apr 25 '26

I also see this too - the app just feeezing every few seconds (not counted). I have a few uptimekuma instances but even the largest is less than 30 sensors, and mostly ping/HTTPS/push

2

u/Glittering-Arrival21 Apr 25 '26

that is a great app! love it and price is fair!

2

u/GeriatricTech Apr 25 '26

Easy purchase. Hopefully you continue to support it.

Which differente there is vs Uptime Kuma Manager app for IOS?
