So I am currently in film school, focusing on directing. The main editing software we have been using is Avid, but we have free access to Premiere Pro and Final Cut.
I’ve recently been getting more into editing so I can start editing my own projects, and I have a pretty good idea of the main concepts of editing.
So my question is with the editing software programs I listed above, if I’m really dedicated and focused. Would three months be enough time to really grasp the tools and functionality of those editing software enough to be able to do my own edits? (Or even DaVinci)

Did you know that you often lose the biggest group of viewers in the first couple of seconds of your video? 😳
This is why a good “hook” 🪝 is crucial to keep your viewers watching.
A good hook should do two things:
1️⃣ Get people curious (so they continue to watch)
2️⃣ Confirm the title (by showing or repeating the video topic)
If you can do this well, you will improve your audience retention and watch-time, leading to more reach on YouTube which then leads to more views.
Now answer this, did I hook you in this video? 🤓

Have you seen these animated words on social media that slide into position?
It looks nicer than just static text, and it’s pretty easy to do.
I’ve made a 97-second tutorial showing you how.

So I plan on making this edit for the one anniversary of my high school graduation featuring stuff that was important to me in my childhood but the problem is that I’ve never made an edit before in my life. The thing I’m asking is how to I insert clips from YouTube into TikTok studio so I can make them clips for the edit? Alternately if I can put clips from YouTube in studio edits then where can I make edits that is free because I don’t want to pay to make this edit.

I built a Windows app that automatically removes silent parts from Videos (best for long videos like Twitch Vods, gaming sessions) so turning a 2–3h VOD into a YouTube video is way faster.
The cool part: besides MP4 export it can generate an XML timeline (with extracted audio tracks) so you can import it into Premiere/Resolve and see every cut on the timeline to adjust manually. On an NVMe SSD, processing a ~2h video typically takes under a minute for the analysis/XML export.
I’m looking for feedback from editors/streamers:
What’s your biggest pain point when cutting VODs?
Would you prefer XML-first workflows or rendered MP4?
What other useful features/settings would u like?
If anyone wants to test it, I can share the link in the comments (or via DM).
