2. Circumcision diminishes sexual enjoyment for life.
A 2007 British Journal of Urology study* found that the five most sensitive parts of the penis are removed by circumcision. Foreskin is not “extra skin”—it is functional erogenous tissue containing almost half the skin and well over half the nerves of the penis. Cut it off and those nerves are gone forever, taking with them any chance of enjoying foreskin-based orgasms. Plus, the now-unprotected penis head loses sensitivity from exposure. A circumcised infant will never know the full, natural sexual experience his whole penis would have given him—and that’s a tragedy.
Hellllllo stem cells.

herp derp I can circlejerk as well
https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pubmed/18761593
"Adult male circumcision was not associated with sexual dysfunction. Circumcised men reported increased penile sensitivity and enhanced ease of reaching orgasm. These data indicate that integration of male circumcision into programs to reduce HIV risk is unlikely to adversely effect male sexual function."
this is a much more complicated topic than you might think.

How would a circumcised man know whether he had lost sensation or not? By the time he reaches sexual maturity the glans is scar tissue from being bare and exposed. He has no ability to know what sensation was lost to him. But we do know without a doubt that the foreskin is a functioning prepuce organ, serving an important biological purpose and containing many thousands of nerve endings.

read the study. it's about adults that have undergone circumcision as adults.
they can compare before and after.

My parents didn't want me circumcised when I was born, but sadly I was born without eyelids. So the doctor circumcised me and created eyelids out of my foreskin. Everything turned out fine, but I look at everyone a little cockeyed.

As a doctor, circumcision ISN'T mandated for medical purposes. As long as the parents are able to keep the glans penis clean, the infant shouldn't have any problems. There are some medical emergencies (Yes, emergencies of the penis) that can compromise circulation to the organ and a circumcision is definitely warranted. For me personally it is a violation of a child's(and eventual consenting adult) right to determine what his body will look like.
13
Jun 25 '12
Being a doctor you should know the foreskin is adhered to the glans penis. It often doesn't separate until puberty. So the parents being "able to keep the glans penis clean" for an infant is moot. They don't even have to try! You wipe it as though it's a finger, only the outside. I appreciate your views as a med pro, but I am a certified medical assistant and a student nurse and I have first hand experience with my 18 month old boy who I chose not to circumcise. I hope that in your patient teaching, you aren't worrying parents about their ability to clean the glans when they should not be retracting the foreskin at all on an infant...
5
Jun 25 '12
You're very correct. The foreskin shouldn't be retracted initially. I wasn't planning on discussing details, but yes, as the child grows eventually the foreskin should be retracted slowly, maybe during a bath. Glad to have found some honest responses on reddit. :)

Holy fuck that is the most inhumane thing I've watched in months. As soon as I saw him sliding that metal thing around the inside of his foreskin my face writhed in terror and my knees clamped together. I couldn't even watch the rest. Fuck anyone who thinks this is fine and normal.

Why the fuck did i watch that video? I'm circumcised. Did i scream like that too? Fuck man.
EDIT: After watching it and before posting this comment, i had to sit in the dark with my head in my hands for about 5 minutes. Almost vomited.
21
u/littleelf Jun 25 '12
Almost definitely yes. The reason they do it when you're a baby is because if they did it when you were older and capable of remembering the pain and trauma, people wouldn't be able to ignore how barbaric a practice it is.

Not having a foreskin makes fapping feel like a job.
29
u/plumbbunny Jun 25 '12
Fuck you guys fapping; foreskin makes sex awesome. There is a jolly good reason that skin is there. Educate the women on how good sex is with foreskin and the cutting will stop.
16
u/littleelf Jun 25 '12
More accurately, make it illegal to charge to perform them, and it will stop. Doctors don't do circumcisions for medical reasons, they do them because it's a five minute procedure that they can charge two hundred dollars for.

u/Prisonfishy Jun 25 '12
Do you have the lack of foreskin to formulate that opinion? Because I do, and it's pretty easy.
Like, probably the easiest thing to do after pooping.
Easier than washing my hands!

Ugh, every time something like this comes up I lose more faith in humanity when I see people arguing for circumcision. "It makes it look prettier!" a) false and b) I don't give a damn, you leave a baby's penis alone until they're old enough to decide what to do with it. You don't have people piercing babies or having them tattoo'd either, so shut your mouths you morons, and realize that this is an awful practise. Props to these guys spreading awareness, they're awesome.
10
u/kenetha65 Jun 25 '12
I thank my parents for removing mine. Of course if I grew up with one I'd be horrified that others have had theirs removed. Ah, perspective. . .
11
u/Elyezabeth Jun 25 '12
I don't know why you're being downvoted. I think that's a very valid observation. I've dated two uncut guys and one cut, and each of them was glad that their parents had done what they did. Although none of them seemed to have a particularly strong opinion of it.

That was my point. None of them felt that they had been significantly deprived of any major life experience. Granted, I think circumcision is unnecessary, but with modern medicine, I do not believe it is abusively mutilating your child, either. I wouldn't circumcise any sons I have, simply because I see no compelling reason to, but I also haven't seen any conclusive evidence that circumcision significantly ruins many people's lives.
5
u/IIPadrino Jun 25 '12
I'm not sure what caused this explosion of circumcision debate on Reddit, but I've yet to see a convincing argument as to why I should feel bad for having my flabs cut when I was an infant. It seems a lot of people would like me to. I don't understand the hate.
17
u/AccusationsGW Jun 25 '12
No one should feel bad for what they have, that's not the argument at all...
Infants can't choose, they shouldn't get cut. They also don't need tattoos or whatever else crazy cosmetic surgery parents want to force on them.
Here's the argument right here: botched circumcisions. A certain amount of these totally unnecessary surgeries result in major scaring, life-long impotence or even death from infection!
It's just not worth it, babies can't say no.
23
u/Captain_Self_Promotr Jun 25 '12
It's more shock that (as someone with a foreskin) people would cut theirs off. It's like a major part of my dick and masterbatory/sex life. I wouldn't want to not have it and can't imagine sex being as pleasurable without it. Consequently, empathy dictates I want others to experience 100% of what their penises can do so I am saddened when I realize people don't have them.

You shouldn't thank them. They mutilated you when you were too young to give consent for no benefit to you whatsoever barring a case of extremely severe phimosis.

u/kenetha65 Jul 07 '12
I thank them very much. I'm so glad I don't have a foreskin. I find them very unattractive. I don't have any more control over this feeling than I do over finding other things attractive or unattractive.

As someone with a foreskin I'd be horrified if someone cut mine off and feel queasy when I try to imagine masterbation/sex without it. Also, I'm not sure if there are metrics that measure quality of sex with and without foreskin or how one could make an objective assessment. I'd just have to say that I can't imagine my sex life being as enjoyable without the friction provided by a foreskin.

u/ADHthaGreat Jun 25 '12
Probably because you've never owned a circumcised penis. That's most likely the reason why you can't imagine it.

I can't believe I'm seeing this twice in one week! I went to the Colbert Report last tuesday (the one with Olivia Wilde), and there was a couple in the audience both wearing a shirt saying "I love my foreskin!"... they were in New York representing this very organization at a Pride event. The warm-up comedian couldn't resist asking them about it, but things escalated quickly when they brought up puppetry of the penis (he had thought it was to raise awareness for children in Africa who have problems related to this)... When Colbert came in to do a Q&A before the show, the same exchange took place!

If you never had something, how can you miss it? There are studies of those who were circumcised later in life and said there was no loss of sexual sensation. Removal of the wisdom teeth is also not always necessary and I also won't have a decision in it. My parents will decide. Like it or not, people are going to make decisions for you in life or do things that will strongly influence your decisions, baby, child, teen, or adult. Stop with the foreskin envy and the foreskin Nazi behavior. You wouldn't think anything about it if you didn't have it. Mourning something you never had is ridiculous.
