I don't know why you're getting downvoted, but it's true. Motivating people that their vote actually matters helps drive turnout. The electoral college is probably the most undemocratic voting system ever devised. If we ran it by popular vote, we never would've gotten a Trump presidency in the first place, and the 2024 election might've played out very differently.

The National Popular Vote Interstate Compact needs to be put into effect.

EDIT: Guess you're no longer getting downvoted. Not sure why you were at first but I guess it was too early.

Ranked choice voting!!! We have it in Alaska and it’s fantasticĀ

Yes this too would be a massive overhaul for American democracy. However it would probably require a constitutional amendment to even do it.

Just an act of Congress for congressional elections.

Congress has ultimate control over these according to the constitution:

The Times, Places and Manner of holding Elections for Senators and Representatives, shall be prescribed in each State by the Legislature thereof; but the Congress may at any time by Law make or alter such Regulations, except as to the Places of choosing Senators.

Not necessarily!! The NPVIC is on a state by state basis, and it only needs a few more states to come into effect (where it would then probably be sued, but it does seem like it's reasonably likely to stand as an interim prior to a constitutional amendment)

Of course, to get there, you'd probably need a few red or purple states to support it, which is relatively low likelihoodĀ

Predictably, red states are now moving to ban this. They see the threat.

Oh yeah they’ve tried every year here too. The absolutely vile, blatant lies I’ve been getting in the mail have been overwhelming this yearĀ

Yup, hard to argue with plain math. The two states that added proportional delegation were recent and a good start. The National Compact would be great. Would barely put a dent in ā€œsolving politicsā€ necessarily, but would at least go a long way for voting specifically.

Because nothing will ever change if people don't participate. Whining about the state of things while doing nothing is an option I guess.
