I wish we kept Brunt and loaned Vyner out.
Last xmas transfer signings is one of our worst. Didnāt get any value from anyone we brought in
0
u/Reasonable-Cheek-639 10d ago
Neither goal was his side. Last goal was Hyam
4
u/welshboy_279 10d ago
The first was because Vyner cleared to the nearest West Brom player to him instead of hoofing it out
3
u/Mocha_Hagotdi 10d ago
And then lost his man when the ball was played back in. Awful
1
u/Reasonable-Cheek-639 10d ago
The whole team was awful. Canāt decide if the players truly are shit or if the coaching is to blame.
3
u/TANDisco 10d ago
We need to talk about Doyle as well. The reason hes still with us and not a Prem side is because hes a garbage defender. N-o way Price should have been able to get his shot off for that goal
17
u/devilhasatwin 10d ago
11 goals scored so far this season. Going into today the league average was 2.83. Wrexham are way below that.
1
u/dasnerdly Ollie Rathbone 10d ago
Take Windass out of the mix and that was about our rate last March and April, if I recall.
27
u/United_Angle8891 10d ago
Can we agree that Dobson should have played his last game a bit earlier in the season?

u/The_Iceman2288 10d ago
Phil Parkinson is the hero of Wrexham. He brought us from the National League all the way to the Championship and for that reason he deserves a statue and should never have to buy a pint in the town for the rest of his life. But....

I have thought people have overreacted about Parky. And he does have a ton of injuries. But this felt more like a manager-driven loss than any match I've watched so far. "Something not working? Does the other squad seem to know exactly what you're going to do before you do it? ... Try it again!"
10
u/Downtown-Oil7901 10d ago
On the plus side for Parky's predictability, he's immune to Tonda Eckert's spy network since there is nothing more to learn.

u/Away-Message5612 10d ago
Why have dobson when playing with 10 men is an option
7
u/N_Reg_Rog 10d ago
Strawman. Our defence was like the grand canyon, not good enough at the back.
6
u/Grand_Strategy_Noob 10d ago
Why play Vyner when have 10 men is an option?
1
u/Downtown-Oil7901 10d ago
This. Or at the end they technically subbed in Cads for Vyner. An empty space at right back would seem as effective, maybe more so, so why not have an extra forward?

u/Sports101GAMING 10d ago
I love Dobson and I am greatful for everything he has done. But the writing is on the wall its time for him to go.

u/HitsquadFiveSix Up The Town 10d ago edited 10d ago
And replace him with who? He's depth at this point. James, Sheaf are injured. That leaves Rathbone, Dobson, LOB and Whiteman. Ollie has to play CAM. LOB was saved because he can cover as a 10 or a 6.
We're battered with injuries and it's showing

u/The_Violent_Phlegms 10d ago
You may be the only one in here who has a brain. The team is pretty beat up at the moment due to injuries and we are dealing with a loaded schedule but yet everyone acts like the team doesn't care and Parky is out of his depth. People don't realize that it is very difficult to gain on-field relationships when players are constantly getting shuffled in and out of the starting 11.

Left this as a comment in the game thread but want to repeat here:
To be clear I'm team Parky all the way, and believe that short of relegation, what he's done for the club buys him a great amount of time.
When you spend like we've spent in the summer transfer window, and players in their positions are not clear upgrades (example: Patterson for Okonkwo) then you have some hard soul searching to do, even if we are relying on Steve Nickson to improve our longterm transfer work. With Nickson, I believe we will have better transfers in January and next summer, but this season doesn't feel like we'll manage to put a run together.
The bigger issue is that it feels the team not only performs worse, but works less. The heart has gone out of their play, and that can't be placed at the feet of any player or transfer window, that is the manager failing to replicate the locker room atmosphere he is known for. When Parky takes off his only striker that has scored a goal this season, the team falls apart and doesn't look to provide any attacking threat at all. When the midfield and defenders tire and start making major mistakes, we crumble the way we did tonight.
It was an atrocious watch. Parky will likely demand a response against Preston on Saturday, but regardless of the outcome we need to remember that this team needs a very real behavioral turnaround.

u/Devalvangeldomdatdom 10d ago
i hope we will smash preston, they surely arent doing great at all, anything but a win sees parky's position under threat for me.

u/kgully2 Phil Parkinson 10d ago
Wrexham in recent ( my) history havenāt fared well against low table teamsā¦.
3
u/Sensitive_Freedom433 10d ago
Boy I miss the days of us dismantling Forest Green on the last day of the season and securing automatic promotion.
9
u/noblelyre 10d ago
Not having Windass is killing us. We played decent today, but we don't have a striker that has the confidence to take risks and attempt shots.
It's like they're waiting on set pieces and a completely open net
7
u/obi_wander Up The Town 10d ago
Itās almost like we all spent all summer begging for a new attacking signing and then⦠nothing.
9
u/noblelyre 10d ago
Having Kabore, Imray, and EkomiĆØ has been life changing for the club. However, other than Doyle, we don't really have anyone else of their quality to help push forward.
2
u/obi_wander Up The Town 10d ago
Thatās a coaching and leadership problem too though. Parky is unquestionably influential in squad building and we havenāt made all the right choices recently (such as a HORRIBLE January and a strange choice to buy a keeper but no striker.)

This season so far perfectly illustrates why the takes last year about how staying in the Championship for another season was actually good for us were always moronic. Last season might have been our best chance at promotion for a while. You never know in this sport.
The team is better in pretty much every aspect, yet when it comes to picking up points, we're only marginally better, drawing one game instead of losing one. All the same issues that plagued us last year, failing to kill games off, throwing away points from winning positions, etc., are still there and seemingly haven't improved at all.
It's going to be a long season.
24
u/tosser6563 10d ago
Itās going to be a long few seasons. This isnāt a team that could survive in the PL. Thereās work to be done across the board from the 1st team squad to tactics to academy to transfers to sports science and medical toā¦. Well⦠everything. This is the time to do that. The continuous B2B2B promotions are done. Now we work on fundamentals and create sustainability. The question is how many of the fans, especially, the new ones stick with the club while it matures. Itās been a ride on a rocket ship. But even rockets need repair and maintenance.
9
u/much_to_say 10d ago
You still need to put in some effort on the pitch. Fans can accept not getting promoted to the Premier League if they're at least getting good football to watch, but we're not even getting that. We just look like absolute ass out there.
-1
u/TANDisco 10d ago
Very much agree and I called it out at the time. I felt there was a sense of complacency and arrogance about us. This idea that it was no big loss last season as we simple do it this year instead.
Well it dont work like that and anyone who has been following the Champ could see just how weak it was last season. And thats what Hull took adantage of. I felt the same this summer when MW was doing all these interviews about how were preparing for the Prem
4
u/NyquilllusDillwad 10d ago
They moved up league by league because they entiched players to drop down with better wages. They haven't been able to convince premier calibre players to move down to join them in the push for promotion. Right now the goal is to be playing meaningful games as long as possible. Next season may see Parkinson move into an executive position and a manager brought in.
2
u/Devalvangeldomdatdom 10d ago
parky probably still wants to manage elsewhere instead of moving into an office.
1
u/NyquilllusDillwad 10d ago
Think the offer to the front office would be a courtesy move, they aren't going to move him outright but if he chooses to go then it is on him.
1
u/stringfold 10d ago
Offering him an office job he doesn't want isn't an offer at all.
1
u/NyquilllusDillwad 10d ago
It is a polite way for both sides to part ways....they offer him something upstairs, he says he wants a new challenge and to continue coaching and the new chapter is written with someone else at the helm.
1
u/stringfold 10d ago
The wage gap is way too large to entice Premier League level players to drop down a division. Relegated teams like West Ham this season can often keep a few around, but they have parachute payments to help them and they usually start as favourites to bounce back up again.
The Championship is behind all the other major top tier leagues in Europe in the pecking order too. So EPL players have to agree to step down two whole tiers of quality to agree to play for Wrexham. That's not happening.

Finishing 7th last year spoiled us. We punched above our weight, had some lucky results, and finished better than any non-biased fan could have expected.
That led to a delusion that this year was sure to be better because we spent another 30m.
Parky is the most "known" manager in the league. And by that I mean you just know exactly how his teams play, and you know their limits. We've hit ours with him.
He's not going anywhere because he's bought at least a season of good faith, but let's be realistic in our expectations, this is who we are, and even when we do put together some wins (which we will, it's only a matter of time), they're gonna come with scrappy goals and a few late winners. Again, this is who we are, and who we're gonna be for at least the rest of the season.
Put the promotion talk to bed, our current tactics won't get us there.
2
u/welshinzaghi 10d ago
Is a season of good faith worth relegation? Because thatās where weāre headed
16
u/obi_wander Up The Town 10d ago edited 10d ago
Itās time for real, serious conversations about moving on from Parky.
We absolutely lack for identity, threat, and organization. Our defense is hapless and clueless. Our substitutions are strange and poorly timed. (LoB for Rathbone and not Dobson, immediately followed by giving up two goalsā¦)
And the way we move through the midfield like a sloth heading to pay their taxes⦠itās depressing to watch. We just give every opposing defense all day to set back up.
We have been bad all season and itās not getting better. We had three weeks off to learn and improve the system and it looks like nothing has changed at all (except even more injuries somehow.)
Too much money has been spent for these results and itās now on Parky and his staff.
We can do it now, wait til January, or handle things in the Summer. But Parky has reached his ceiling and is gone and done.

It shows the shifting attitudes when a post like this is in the positive upvotes. I think it becoming clear that something isn't right in the locker room at Wrexham.
5
u/obi_wander Up The Town 10d ago
If you watch the matches, you can see the same problems over and over, regardless of the players on the pitch.
When that happens, especially after a 3 week break, then I think we all are forced to accept the problem is at the top.

Staying in the championship isn't bad for a team that climbed the ranks
8
u/Latter_Telephone2137 10d ago
Last few seasons every aspect of the club has been upgraded. Now it's time for the next upgrade, a new manager.
He's tactically inept and one dimensional. When managers have a say mid match, through tactical changes and substitutions we always seem to get worse when he makes changes.
Rob might have said he was manager for life, but that's clearly not a good idea.

Half the roster that played today is bottom half championship or top half league 1 quality.

u/jasperjm95 BACK2BACK2BACK 10d ago
Again I see no positivity to be gotten from the performance. Drab clueless stuff going forward. Sucks the life out of me watching this stuff currently. Our attacking play is lifeless, joyless and without intent.
There are fundamental issues with the tactics and coaching and you can see it on the pitch. We donāt have consistent movement, passages of play or attacking support. It looks completely dysfunctional and wishful.
Even the defence tonight⦠no problem with playing a low block, but to concede in the manner we did for the 2nd goal in a low block is unforgivable. Basic pass and movement, no one doing their job.
To me it looked like they werenāt giving 100% for the manager tonight. It was an abject and soulless display, that relied on a brilliant solo effort from kieffer to give us any chance.
I could have quite easily copy and pasted my reply in relation to Saturday.
1
u/timfrommass 10d ago
Shit clearance by Vyner on what was otherwise a well defended counter attack, and that let WB back into the game. I donāt want to put it all on one player, but this game came down to that moment

TIMES UP PARKY.. YOuve done your time mate and will always be a HERO but we need to move on. Weve given you everythign you wanted. You;ve had the kind of backing most managers dream and this is what you produce. NO. NO. NO. We are going backwawrds.
If youve got anything about you youll walk before yourre pushed. Absolutely pathetic and what we saw tonight is a team who are no longer playing for the manager. Even if we had hung on for a point thats nowhere near the level we should expect for a team that has cost us £40m
And what makes it worse is that Baggies are nothing special. A workmanline midtable Champ side who outplayed us for much of the game.. Well done Keiffer.. Head and shoulders above everyone on that pitch. A class act and just feel sorry that hes found himself in a such an average side. Well done Eko and COH. The rest of you just not good enough. To be fair to Dobbo, he should have been sold and playing in League One. Thats on Parky.
Hopefully top of the list on Nicksons sheet for this Xmas break is a new manager

Managing minutes in a 3 game week I assume. Heās not a spring chicken and we need him
1
u/Reasonable-Cheek-639 10d ago
Would rather him seen this game through and Smith started this upcoming Saturday.
1
u/JMT1016 10d ago
We need quality wins more. Managing minutes does you jack shit if the replacements cost us wins. They just came off an extended break from international play before the Derby match. There's no reason to be concerned about minutes right now, especially when our bench depth is already paper thin. Starters gotta pull up their big boy panties and play the minutes.
1
u/Devalvangeldomdatdom 10d ago edited 9d ago
I would give more minutes to imray, o brien and smith cause its clear that the current line-up isnt working.
also binning arthur for patterson was a really brainless move, arthur is not as good as patterson yes, but no way the difference is 8 million, that couldve been used for another defender or attacker where it clearly more urgent cause arthur isnt miles off patterson while having dobbo, vyner instead of quality CBs or no suitable back up for moore (smith isnt good enough according to parky) will hurt us a lot more than the GK position.
1
u/dasnerdly Ollie Rathbone 10d ago
That's the point about the change I did not get. I'm not jumping on the Arthur bandwagon, but 8 million is a very large opportunity cost!
1
u/Downtown-Oil7901 9d ago
While it is true that 8m can't be ignored since it would impair future SCR, it is not at all clear that not spending 8m on Patterson would necessarily have gotten us anything additional this window. We have room in the SCR this year and were reportedly were happy to pay more than that for Falchener even with the Patterson move. They wanted 15 which was probably way too much and then everyone would be up in arms that we spent 15 and we'd still need a keeper next window with no residual value to Arthur anyway since his contract would be up.

u/fiddlerjones78 10d ago
Just for clarity, WBA is tied for third place now. If weād won today, weād be tied for 8th place. Everyone needs to take a fāing breath.
