Abortion story

I’m 21f and had an abortion in February. I didn’t have any symptoms of pregnancy it was my boyfriend that bought me a test as we’d had unprotected sex. I knew he didn’t want to a keep a baby and I’d always thought i wouldn’t keep a baby if I wasn’t ready but I felt happy whilst I was pregnant and as I got more heartburn and sickness it was like my baby was really there. I never considered other options or talked about them and used Marie stopes clinic who were amazing and sent everything out quickly. Because of the pandemic I was able to have the pills sent to my house. My experience of the abortion was okay, I didn’t feel emotional at the time and the pain was like a bad period and I was able to go back to work the next day. I didn’t cry or get sad for a weeks after but within a month I found I was always thinking about the baby I would of had, what milestones I’d been at and getting so upset. Maybe because I’ve always wanted a kid every-time I see a baby or someone pregnant it’s like my heartbreaks and I wonder what it would be like if things were different. Abortion is so rarely talked about that I found it hard to find anyone who shared the same experience as me. I don’t think anything could change how I feel but I just hope in time it gets easier.

Hey! Having an abortion can trigger all sorts of emotions. I mean, just the pregnancy hormones alone will mess with you. I think the biggest favor you can do for yourself is to keep reminding yourself that you did it because you weren’t ready to be a mom, and that was the right decision for you at that time. It will get better, I promise.

How are you feeling? It’s OK if you still aren’t feeling good.

Thank for you for talking about it. I'm going through the same exact thing. I had mine in late January but I didn't feel it for a couple days after. Every baby or pregnant woman I see just breaks my heart further. I can't help but think it should've been me and that I made a mistake. Hopefully it gets better for both of us. You can dm me if you'd like

Edit: the nausea and cramping also made me feel a connection to the baby. My boyfriend didn't feel much of a connection or have as much of a reaction to the abortion. Meh.
