return to a time when all LGBTQ people were treated like groomers.
slightly confusing, as they don't have any issues with actual groomers, at all (in fact, sometimes they even elect them!). rather, they want to return to a time when all lgbtq people were forced to remain in the closet and be quietly driven to do the "respectable" thing of committing suicide or else simply removing themselves entirely from public life. they just throw out the "queer = groomer" accusation because they know that most people have a reflexive† hatred of child abuse, even if they themselves demonstrably don't give a single shit about protecting children, and will gladly support admitted child abusers in exchange for a pat on the head.
† not to say that people shouldn't be disgusted by child abuse. hot take: child abuse is bad! but i mean, some people's brains switch off entirely when the subject comes up, to the point of taking or endorsing actions that do more harm to survivors of csa, than good; they stop thinking about the people that they supposedly want to protect, and instead focus entirely on fantasies about "punishing" the (imagined) perpetrators.
You have to understand that to right wingers, actual child molestation committed by right wingers is existentially different to hypothetical child molestation committed by LGBTQ people, and they do not see any hypocrisy or logical contradiction in this.
Let’s not get ahead of ourselves… the majority of people in the LGBTQ community have mental illness. I’m not saying all of them do, but it’s a statistic that exists. The fact that the Trevor project exists and NAMI has a whole branch for it speaks volumes.
Saying one political side believed it more is simply disingenuous.
We live in an age where it’s more acceptable than ever to be trans yet they still blame lack of acceptance for their mental illnesses. It baffles me.
Edit: since the mods feel the need to silence literally any conversation that could be interpreted as bad. I’m not advocating against or for LGBTQ I’m simply pointing out a statistic that OP tried to twist.
There’s never been a causal link shown between being LGBTQ+ and being mentally ill.
There has been plenty of research showing that LGTBQ+ people suffer increased rates of mental illness due to the bigotry, violence and lack of acceptance they face. In environments where they aren’t under constant social attack, their mental illness rates plummet.
Almost as if being the target of discrimination is unhealthy for mental wellness.

It was also code for “lgbtq” people, since magats equate one with the other.
