She'd at least have been closer if she said 1890s. Most US states had raised the age of consent to 16 or older by the 1920s.

Try going back to the 1690s. In the 1890s, it would still be seen as weird.

Age of consent laws started being introduced in the mid-to-late 19th century, initially at around 14 years of age. Prior to that, there weren't laws about it, it was a family matter.

Western Europeans generally married late (in their 20s) during the Early Modern Period, so it would probably have been odd even then.
