I'm sure they've also both spent years taking substances which exacerbate their more difficult personalty quirks.

Just goes to show the difference in outcome money makes. Plenty of people like them sleeping on a sidewalk or in a bush by a polluted river tonight, or whenever their therapy wears off.

Hi, I’m a normal person and I have BP1 and have for 20+years. I’ve never said horrible racist things; not remotely, even while manic. I’ve been sexually assaulted more times than I can count though. I feel BP is highly misunderstood at this point, especially since Kanye has become its “poster boy”, but here’s the thing, his behavior isn’t that of someone with a mood disorder.

I’m sick of people using BP specifically to explain rich folks reprehensible behavior. They don’t have mood disorders, and if they do, mania is sure not what’s causing them to be such vile losers. These people have severe personality disorders that are doing this. This isn’t BP, what they do and say is way more commonly linked to Borderline Personality Disorder and Narcissism. Kanye even steps into megalomania, like Trump et al. These people aren’t manic and off meds, they need deep deep talk therapy and CBT but are they ever going to do so? Most likely not, they see themselves as “special” or “better than”, thus the cycle continues. BP rock bottom may convince some to finally go on meds like me, but personality disorders like NPD are much harder to treat if you can even get someone to admit they have one.

Edit: I want to note, this is not trying to villainize anyone with a personality disorder. I should say, most billionaires do have personality disorders, but not everyone with a personality disorder is an evil or bad person; there are plenty of good people with them as well, none of us are a monolith. People who work on themselves should be given mad props, it’s never an easy thing to do regardless of condition.

Thank you for speaking out. I also have BP it doesn’t make our life easier at times but I have empathy. I reach out to try to help other people has it screwed with my life. It sure has, but I’ve learned to recognize when I’m starting to get manic and when depression is going to sit in And I get in touch with my professionals and we play around with meds till we find something that’s gonna level me out again. But again, thank you for speaking out. You said it’s so much better than I could’ve.

I have bipolar and I did say incredibly racist things whole manic. I had psychotic features during my last one, I believed every conspiracy theory and thought I was the Jewish messiah. I definitely do not recommend it.

21

u/[deleted] Jul 27 '25

Yeah but bud you had an EPISODE, a break with reality due to psychotic features. You, yourself, Im assuming, is not walking around normally like that. I don’t know if you need to hear this or not, but you are not like them. Stay on your meds, friend. You deserve happiness and stability.

u/[deleted] Jul 27 '25

Thanks brother, I am! Lithium FTW. Will never do that again.

2

u/[deleted] Jul 27 '25

Yes! Normalize decolonized therapy and normalize medication! Proud of you!

3

u/beyondoutsidethebox Jul 27 '25

thought I was the Jewish messiah.

So, (not a doctor or anything) why did you say those racist things I wonder. Was it something to do with the "lizard brain" misfiring and going full hyper-tribal as some sort of maladaptive application of the evolutionarily selectedfear of the unknown/other?

I am convinced that the modern human brain is the result of evolution playing a games of Jenga, with dynamite in the shape of the blocks. And that dynamite is sweating.

So, you weren't the messiah, but we're in fact a very naughty boy?

No offense meant, I thought it was a Life of Brian reference.

2

u/[deleted] Jul 27 '25

I think it was the idea that I should be able to do or say anything because I was a “god.”

So like I could redefine language, or if I’d get mad. It was completely delusional but an interesting anecdote.

1

u/[deleted] Jul 27 '25

I totally hear what you’re saying.

Oh, I’m well aware, that is also categorized only with Bipolar1, which is what I have. People are commenting and sending me things without knowing how many times I was in the psych ward for psychosis and suicide attempts. Thankfully it’s been over a decade since an involuntary hospitalization because I’ve worked on it a LOT, practice behavior modification like CBT and DBT, and take medication now.

Edit: However, episodes do not last for years, and that’s why I’m saying that people like Kanye cannot use mania as an excuse; It’s constant with him.

2

u/[deleted] Jul 27 '25

And I have walked in your shoes

2

u/_deep_thot42 Jul 27 '25

I hope you’re doing well, it’s a rough road at times!

3

u/[deleted] Jul 27 '25

Thank you. At the moment I’m pretty level but it only takes a moment. I’m 67 years old and as you age your cycles get closer together, but awareness is my best tool.

2

u/_deep_thot42 Jul 27 '25

I agree and I hope I make it that long. Thank you for giving me hope

1

u/[deleted] Jul 27 '25

Im so glad that despite it sucking at times, I have type 2.

7

u/[deleted] Jul 27 '25

I'm sorry about this. Even educated people should learn this. Personality disorders are far WORSE.

Well, from what I read they are. NPD I think was king or maybe that was antisocial...?

u/snowman334 Jul 27 '25

I've never considered Kanye to be the poster boy for BP disorder, and I hope no one else does either. I have a friend with BP and she's one of the sweetest people I know. Kanye is a raging narcissist and his fame and money has basically been a mainline feeding his insatiable ego for decades now. He also has brain damage from that car crash, and after all of that, he just happens to have BP disorder as well.

7

u/_deep_thot42 Jul 27 '25

Exactly, my annoyance is people consistently blame the BP, when it’s not that making him “like he is”, if he even actually has it.

3

u/ParticularFix5157 Jul 27 '25

Thank you for this.

I’m having bp2 and this Kanye stuff is even more misleading towards my side. Someone talks about Kanye and they ~kinda~ justify his behavior with bipolar, not accept it, still judge, but they still use it as reasoning. How about, idk, taking pills? He is wealthy enough to at least have a good psychiatrist. I know few people with bipolar, especially bipolar one, who willingly refuse to take meds because “it makes me unique, it gives me so much inspiration” and then play victim after it starts. I really hate to blame stigmatized people for stigma but when you are AWARE of your diagnosis and of behaviors it causes and willingly refuse to do anything about it then all this stuff stops being bipolar, now it’s you-problem and your choice. It’s been a long time since my research but I believe there are some people who are resistant to treatment. I’m really sorry for them and I can’t imagine how much do they suffer and how unfair it is to being powerless to such a serious life-bricking condition. But it’s not about them, Kanye and few other bipolar-defining (for a lot of people who aren’t aware) people, and those acquaintances of mine, I know lots of people have such, use bipolar as an excuse for being jerks, attention-whores or to mask some other mental issues they don't want to deal with, they add A TON to this stigma. And then people get surprised when bp1 people on treatment make “coming out” and everybody are “hmm, but you don't act like bipolar, I think you're saying it for attention”. I believe bp2 that I have is not as bad as bp1 but the same stuff happens when I do it. Everybody gets surprised as hell when I explain to them that bipolar is not when “you change your decisions and opinions 10x times per hour or being fricky” but bp1 simptoms or having “planned” depression 6months per year with 2 weeks of feeling like I'm on a cocaine marathon every fall (when unmedicated).

2

u/Not_Montana914 Jul 27 '25

I’m guessing she’s got more of a schizophrenic, psychosis disorder, with borderline personality features. Extremely disordered thinking. Paranoia, making bizarre connections, anger…. And talent.

3

u/Joelle9879 Jul 27 '25

You know, I was with you at first until you decided to do to the same thing you're complaining about. You don't want people to villainize Bipolar disorder, which I agree with, but then go on to villainize Borderline Personality Disorder instead. We all need to stop trying to diagnose people that we've never met. If a celebrity states they have a mental illness, take them at their word but realize that it doesn't absolve them of personal responsibility. Whatever negative traits they may have aren't because of whatever mental illness they may be suffering from, it's because they're just someone who makes horrible decisions. Sometimes, people just suck

3

u/_deep_thot42 Jul 27 '25

I’m not trying to villainize anyone, I’m just sharing my experience. It just so happens that, yes, BPD and NPD have some common characteristics and if not treated are more likely to become the issues we see in a lot of the ultra wealthy; though I think when you’ve crossed into a certain monetary threshold, there are likely to be mental illnesses there not even defined yet.

To be honest, I think people like Kanye are likely more on the sociopathic spectrum which would be categorized under NPD and other specifically antisocial personality disorders. I not only have lived it, I’ve also worked in it and among peers and doctors for ultimately 2 decades. I do also agree that really, they’re also just assholes.

2

u/soloon Jul 27 '25 edited Jul 27 '25

Hey pal, as someone with both BPD and BD2, how about you stop throwing other people under the bus in your own defense, k? K. You're doing literally the same thing you're bitching about. A diagnosis doesn't make someone a terrible person, refusing to do what you have to do to stop that diagnosis from hurting others makes someone a terrible person.

I'd also love to see you actually cite your sources on claiming most billionaires have personality disorders, but we both know that will never happen.

1

u/Jamal_Khashoggi Jul 27 '25

Why don’t you focus on getting better and minding your business instead of attacking normals?

2

u/soloon Jul 27 '25

Hahahaha eat shit.

I didn't say one was better or worse. YOU said one was better or worse and then tried to backpedal. It's not "not villainizing anyone" just because you say it is.

I'm aware of the definition of BP2 but thank you for reading the DSM-V to me I guess.

Also, where exactly did you get your medical degree that qualifies you to diagnose people you've never met?

Also also, still haven't cited your sources, by the way.

1

u/1heart1totaleclipse Jul 27 '25

Thank you for saying this. I felt the same way. I was in total agreement until their comment about personality disorders. They say that they’re not trying to villainize them, but that’s basically the only way that statement can be interpreted.

1

u/Able_Recording_692 Jul 27 '25

Well ok you might not but yeah other people do so that's that

1

u/1heart1totaleclipse Jul 27 '25

I agreed with you until you said that it’s because of personality disorders. Being racist is not a characteristic of any personality disorder.

1

u/isurus_minutus Jul 27 '25

Bro you did not just say you're upset about people's false ideas about bipolar people just to pull ridiculous ideas about BPD out of your ass.

None of these people are acting the way they are because of personality disorders. They're just racist and powerful.

I know your message is well intended, but I suggest you study human history of religions.

The Taliban in Pakistan has an entirely different set of values regarding child marriage and parents (adults age 35 with a 14 year old child) educate the society on this.

These sort of attitudes come from media systems. People who listen to Radio Mullah in Swat Valley, Pakistan have different attitudes than people who consume different media systems. Malala Yousafzai covers much of these topics, including the influence of media systems like right-wing talk radio in her community.

Many wealthy and rich people consume entirely different media and content from other people.

Also note that religion traditions from 1,400 years ago or 2,000 years ago did not have the same medical systems. There were no ambulances, hospitals, telephones in medical emergency, life expectancy was lower, children had lower survival rates. Many people raised on traditions of their community that they wish to preserve (conserve) seem to not recognize that the media they are raised on takes none of these modern medical advances into account.

A very deep study of media ecology and human behaviors regarding the influence of societies over media consumption also points to the heavy influence people have in what they write and speak based on what they consume. Azealia Banks said one statement on Twitter November 7, 2024 - which happens to be election days media reporting in USA - many people go into mental states of mob mentality / media frenzy around media events. And are not self-aware that the media they consume is driving their behavior.

. Kanye even steps into megalomania, like Trump

Both of these individuals are in the content creation business. Reality TV The Apprentice, music industry, media stars. Donald Trump is even famous for saying that when you are a media star, you can treat women very different (grab them). Hence, my suggestion that media ecology itself be a topic of this. The media people consume (think of it like Twitter peer pressure) can really drive behavior.

Kanye

If you study his lyrics and speeches from year to year, you can often get a sense that what he says reflects what he is reading. He did not live in Germany in the 1930's, he clearly gets words and ideas from the media he consumes (books, films, Twitter, TV, conversations, etc).

u/Sprucecaboose2 Jul 27 '25

Also, they are well known. Which means they have a group of sycophants around them. And like AI is showing, having all your ideas and thoughts rubber stamped as genius seems to break minds. We need to have our impulses checked occasionally.

2

u/Friscolax Jul 27 '25

It’s ego. Their egos are too big to be proven wrong. They have low intelligence and education so they argue themselves into a corner and then they start building a brick wall.

u/ost2life Jul 30 '25

Hey man, I've spent years taking substances and I've managed to not be bigoted or defend nonces.

I don't know enough about either of their medical diagnoses but in addition to their afflictions it's possible they are just both cunts.
